As many of you know, I rarely buy books without reading them first, especially authors I don't know, so I use the library as much as I can.
Well, last time I was there, I changed the contact number, (we can only have one for some reason)from my husband's cell to the landline. We had changed it because before we had no caller ID or answering machine, so if the library called to let me know my book I had on hold was available, I wouldn't know it and they only leave it on the holding shelf for 9 days. It worked out okay,. but my husband wouldn't tell me sometimes, 3-5 days after he got the call, so I explained to the librarian that we now have an answering machine and I wanted to change the contact number.
She was really nice and gave me this site to sign up for. I think this might be just for America, and only if a local library is involved will one be able to use it. This site not only lets the card holder that a book(s) are available, but also if something is due, saving me the time it takes to look it up only to find sometimes I have something overdue by a day or two.
There are also ways one can be notified, e-mail, RSS, HTML, and ICAL. ICAL is an electronic calendar where I can easily seen when my book(s), or games, or movies are due.
Here is the website to see if your local library is a part of it: http://libraryelf.com/
