Here I go again guys, making this food topic. I bet, everyone of us Filipinos have already tasted adobo. It’s the most cooked dish of the Filipinos and it has different ways of cooking them . Actually , I have seen a small book with a tile “100 Ways to Cook Adobo” unfortunately, that time I wasn’t much into cooking yet, being single by then. Whatever ways adobo is cooked, one thing is sure, it’s delicious specially with a hot rice to pair it.

what's more interesting about adobo is that you can change the main ingredient from pork, chicken, and even vegetables. i love "adobong kangkong".

we don't have too much typhoon like from there in the capital and other places in the country. with pedring, we only felt stronger than normal wind, colder, and with slightly heavy rains in the evening and until the late morning the following day. but no reported flood or some disastrous events.

Oh my, I love chicken adobo, and anytime you put it in the table, sure enough, I will eat it with hot rice. Just last night, I cooked my chicken adobo laced with oyster sauce and pineapple chunks and oh, sweet, delicious and lovely.

Oh, is that your style of doing your chicken adobo? I think, it's truly delicious that way. I will try it also this coming Sunday. We all have our styles of doing our adobo. Anyway it is is done, it always never fails to delight us. Truly a Filipino food, worth cooking and eating!

Why haven't i thought of using pineapple in my adobo, before. I am always cooking adobo, one with plain salt and the other with soy sauce yet it didn't cross my mind that my favorite fruit pineaplle would indeed be a good twist to my adobo. I guess, it's because it's not available when i have to cook adobo, that's why.

Chili adobo? Oh that one caught my attention! I like spicy foods and that one would really be something. If you know how it's done, would you mind sharing? anyway, yes adobo could actually be nice to partner with any food. I also tried putting it in my pandesal and it was really a filling meal. There are really lots of ways of cooking adobo. I will be trying adobo with pineapple next week when our daughter comes for her semestral break. I am sure she will like it.

Why, can you not cook it for yourself, there in your place? A simple adobo will just be of salt, vinegar and pepper. And it's so easy to cook and it's delicious , really!

I didn't realize that there's a hundred different ways to cook adobo. If you cook adobo and after cooking it, it tastes like adobo then that's only one way of cooking it as far as I'm concerned.

We're fine actually. We were allowed to go home earlier since they expect the typhoon to get worse in the afternoon but instead of more winds the typhoon was already subsiding just after lunch. In fact we were able to go out and buy stuffs for dinner in the market with hardly any rain at all just before dusk. We live in the outskirts of Makati and the effects is not that much except for the clutter of garbage, leaves and whatever that the wind has brought with it. But the gusts of wind in the morning is quite scary since I can hear the roofs of our neighbors rattle. It's actually very different from what was shown on TV, of waves hammering manila bay that reaches even as high as the trees. For those that live in the provinces you might think that manila has been hardly hit but it's just some parts actually especially the low laying areas and places along the coasts that were more affected. We lost power in the morning but it was restored just before it went dark a privilege when you live in a place just right beside a posh subdivision . Thank god the typhoon didn't brought that much rain with it otherwise it'll be Ondoy all over again in fact it could even be worse than Ondoy. So what about you there?

Just like you last 26th, we were made to go home when lunchbreak comes. But the wind wasn't that strong. I get to buy some emergency foods, in case of brownouts. When i woke up nnear evening , it was already calm. Thanks God, Pedring didn't harm us much. yes, there were floods, and just like there in Manila, it's only on some places. News could really exaggerate.

Actually ybong , in whatever way it is cooked it is still adobo. But then , they differ because they use varieties of seasoning. Like, you can just season it with salt or soy sauce or with vinegar and some would put oyster sauce. Others would even put pineapple while others would put liver spread. So, how's the typhoon in your place ybong?

I actually like 'adobo'. I've tasted some in a few gatherings here that we've attended. I've seen the pork and chicken variety, but I like pork one better. Specially if the meat used was the not-so-healthy lean variety.

May i ask if you are a Filipino? Filipinos really love adobo. Though , they have their own preferences on how it should be cooked, it's really a well loved Filipino dish. Yes, adobo is actually delicious specially if you the meat you used has some fat in it. It's the fat that adds so much flavor to adobo.

Good day Simplyd, Just what you have mentioned, though there are a lot of ways on how adobo was being cooked, still it is surely great especially when it is paired with hot rice. And to add up some, not only Filipino people eats adobo, as this dish was also loved to eat by many nationalities as well, as this dish can also be cooked using chicken instead of pork.

Other Nationalities are loving it also, that's something to be proud of of our ADOBO. Yes, it could also be of chicken and it could also be a combination of both. And do you know that others are putting liver spread to make it a bit sticky? I have tasted that one and it's delicious. I guess, for special occasions we can do that , for it to have a different twist.

Hi simplyd...Wow, a discussion about adobo...Makes me hungry (yum). Adobo is one of my favorite dish. I cook it with quail eggs or sometimes I add pineapple chunks. It is a very handy dish to have since it has a long shelf life and it is very easy to cook. I usually cook chicken adobo and sometimes adobong kangkong for my father since he is on a diet... and like you, I pair it up with hot rice and ice cold coke.

Hmm, makes me hungry too now, as i am commenting back. Adobo is one Filipino dish that the Filipinos are really very proud of. It's one dish that we could replace the main ingredient, with other stuffs, like with kangkong as you mentioned. Yes, quail eggs are very good to add in an adobo dish. Coke completes the meal indeed.

I love adobo! In fact, we had an adobo yesterday. It is chicken adobo with chicken feet, chicken liver and egg. My mom cook sweet adobo and the sour one. But all in all, I love its taste and we really enjoy it.

I love adobo! It is the yummiest, but easiest to cook meal. Even when I'm on a strict diet, I can eat it because I can always remove chicken skin and just boil the meat (hence no need for oil). I also live veggie adobo like string beans. I like it spicy. I like it with coconut milk. I like it with pineapple juice. I love the chicken-pork adobo combo. Practically anything can be included in an adobo meal! And, don't you think this is a killer combo = steaming rice, adobo and coke!
@SIMPLYD (90727)

Yes, that's a killer combo. The coke completes the meal. It takes away whatever rich feeling the adobo has. Indeed, adobo could be done with any either chicken or pork and most of all for okra, kangkong and string beans!

I love adobo, I think it's more of the smell of whole pepper corns, garlic and laurel or bay leaf that turns me on more than the meat itself, it's also a very convenient food to have around because it takes a long time to spoil because of the spices , it's nice to bring along in beach outings and eaten on sterilized banana leaves, yes and the oil on rice with salt LOL makes you all but forget healthy eating, I'm glad I do not have high blood pressure yet. Ever tried it on bread or adobo sandwich?

Yes, adobo actually has a long shelf life even without a refrigerator. I remember, bringing a big bottle of it at our dorm when i was in high school. It was submerged in its curdled fat, which made it have a long shelf life. I would eat it when mealtime comes. It usually lasts for 3 or more days.

I searched it on internet,It consists of meat, marinade, sauce, paprika, oregano, salt, garlic ,vinegar, etc. It seems like our pot-stewed meat whose spice comprises ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, star anise, etc.

I guess so. But our adobo has no ginger , nutmeg , star anise and cinnamon. Yours seems a sweet dish. Ours is more of a bit salty and sour .

Yes, we do put potatoes, as a meat extender of adobo. The potato absorbs the sauce, making it so delicious and tasty to eat. Have you tried putting a bit of adobo sauce in your rice? The rice becomes so yummy too!

Woot! Adobo is simply the best dish...not to mention, the easiest to cook...and very much a Filipino dish. No matter how and which way you go about it...fry it simmer it, cook it with sauce or without, with soy sauce or just salt, with or without ginger, bayleaf, or atsuete seeds...adobo is as varied as our country's culture, yet also very Filipino and identify-ably so! :D
