My one greatest fear..

As many of you already know, I had an interview yesterday. The manager who conducted the interview told me it had gone very well, so I thought I had a shot at this job. She told me I would probably hear back by the end of the week or early next week. I was hoping she was right, if I did get the job. I had to work a 10 hour shift today at Subway, and I was afraid I would get called today about the job. Turns out, I was right.. I got called today! My husband texted me while I was at work to tell me Bank of America called and wanted me to call them back. The excitement welled inside me, I wanted to hear if I'd gotten the job. But of course I couldn't call from work! Well.. I was a bad girl and called from work anyway. I couldn't help myself, I really wanted to know. The answer was yes!! I got the job!! I start on October 17! So, yay, I'm a bank teller at Bank of America now!!It's very exciting! Thank you all for those prayers and crossed fingers! Do you have any exciting news to share? Have you ever made a phone call about a potential job offer while you were already at work?

Congratulations!!!! We knew you could do it! I have never called about another job while at work. Of course it's been years since I even looked. I guess I got into this job and stayed....I am so happy for you!

My heartiest congratulations!!! I hope this will be better in terms of work hours and payments than your previous jobs. While money is always important, it helps us women if the job has some comfort for us in terms of work hours. Right now, I have nothing exciting to share as far as job is concerned but I’m super excited right now as our festival season begins this Sunday and its one whole week of holidays, fun and festivities and I’m going away for a vacation tomorrow early morning…cant wait for this day to end!!!

Thanks! Do they have BoA in Canada? I know most of the major banks that we have are international.. just not sure if BoA would be.

Congratulations!! A friend of mine was working at a bank here and I thought it would be a cool job, but she said they wanted them to do so much calling trying to drum up business and stuff she didn't feel comfortable. I haven't had to deal with a potential job offer in over 6 years! I'm hoping to go back to work next year part time since all three of our kids will be in school. The school has aides for the younger classes and all it takes it taking a test. Even part time would be nice. Good luck with your new job!

I will have to do something similar. I have to try to get my customers to sign up for different products as part of my job.. but that is something I've had to do at other jobs too, so should not be an issue. I won't have to cold call though.

Again congratulations! I am so happy for you. I still remember a few discussions you raised here when you just started out at Subway. I guess I should be expecting another few discussions about quitting Subway, and your first few days at BA. I hope this is the start of a bright career for you. No exciting news for me yet, and yes I do that all the time. Made and accept phone calls from potential job offers while I was already at work.

Right now I dropped down to just weekends at Subway, but I'm not quitting yet. Bank of America is only 20 hours a week, and with my youngest son in full time daycare, I will need the extra cash, especially for Christmas. I'd like to try to keep the job at Subway until I've gone full time with BoA, but we'll see how things go. I'm not sure I can swing it mentally and emotionally.

Yeah.. not with me. I tend to let my emotions control me. It's been pretty hard not to quit Subway thus far, and that's when I NEEDED it.

Great plan! Sure you can 'swing' it. You've managed Subway so far, and that was even more difficul as it included physical work. Mental and emotional should be easy! Goodluck!

To answer your question first, yes, I did, years ago when I was working at this AWFUL factory! One day I got fed up and said I was sick and went and put applications in other places and the next day my husband called me at work to tell me one of the places had called. Actually, what I did was say I was sick AGAIN and left and went to talk to them at the other place, where I got hired and started the following Monday. I'm so happy for you! I had a feeling you were going to get this job. See, all your stressing out over it was for nothing, you didn't have anything to worry about. Good luck and I hope you like it and go far in the banking business! I you become a CEO, don't forget those of us who knew you "when"...lol! Annie

I was the only one in the store, so I could not have excused myself in order to make the phone call, unfortunately.

No super exciting news to share here, but I am so happy for you! I got a call on my cell phone once about a job while I was at work, but I was too busy to answer it at the time. I called them back as soon as I got off work.

I feel so bad about it too, OMG.. My manager was there when I got the text about the phone call.. but I had just taken a break so I didn't think I should take another so quickly and there was a lot of work to do. So between 3 and 4 I was alone and it's normally slow during that time. So that's when I made the phone call and guess what? A customer came in while I'm on the phone. How terrible was that that I waited on the customer while I was on my phone call? I feel awful, it's like one of the worst things I've ever done, and I hope she does not complain. I did apologize. But while waiting on the customer I ended up not being able to hear much of what the recruiter was saying either. I think I'm going to call the recruiter back today to try to have her repeat some of the information.

I am not quitting my job at Subway just yet. I will at least keep both jobs through Christmas. After that I will decide whether or not to quit Subway. A lot of it will depend on how much I like working at Bank of America. Aside from affording Christmas, I'd like to keep Subway as back up in case I hate the job and don't want to stay.

Guess you don't have to worry about that other interview then. And btw on the weight gain (last discussion that I straggled into), just don't stress about how much you've gained back, but try and stop it here, so it doesn't end up being the whole 80 lbs. 30 lbs is still a gain. good luck with the job! How's it going?

I'm beginning to work on losing the weight again.. just hope I don't lose motivation between everything else going on in my life. Job is going well. I got my first paycheck today. I'm very excited about the benefits I get, basically full benefits even though I'm only part-time. Couldn't really ask for anything more.. except for maybe being full-time!

Well done you!! : ) I am so pleased for you - it clearly shows how happy you are in the post about your new job. I once worked somewhere I hated so I made a call about a new job from the office there and I even had to do a telephone interview there and then. I was then invited for a proper interview and got the job and I am now still with the same company 8 years later so I guess it was worth it in the end. Lol

Ha Ha! Cool. Perhaps that's a good omen for my new job then! I wish I could quit Subway, but with only getting 20 hours a week at the bank, I sort of need both jobs for now.

I think eventually it will all work out ok for you! : )

I know that my response is late but my joy and happiness for you is overwhelming. Many congratulations. You must feel so proud of yourself and rightly so. I was praying for 4 ladies to get a job. Now two have got jobs and one had an interview today that she said went very well. I am so happy for her as she was made redundant and her money will finish in four weeks. She has 2 adopted children and a husband who deserted her 8 years ago. I hope that you will celebrate

Your prayers are very powerful! It was probably your prayers that got me this job! I did make sure to send a thank you to God while driving home. I believe this was meant to be. I hope your friend gets the job she interviewed for. What a shame she's going through such troubles!

Congratulations!!!That would be real hard to wait until you got off of work to know for sure. I'm glad that you got the job that you wanted. It is real nice that it will be so close to work.

My current job at Subway is literally right across the street from where I live, no job could ever be closer than that! LOL. This bank job is about a 15-20 minute drive each way. Still not terrible. It's pretty close to where my husband works.

Thank you! Yes I wish I could quit Subway, but for now I'm going to keep it, probably at least through Christmas. I'd like to try to keep it until I get more hours at the bank, but it could be a year before I see more than 20 hours from the bank, and I don't think I can go that long working 2 part-time jobs!

CONGRATS! WTG! Now you'll have to start shopping for that wardrobe. I recommend lots and lots of black (easy to match and harder to tell it's wrinkled) and a cardigan in case it's chilly.

Yes.. that's what hubby said too, that the bad part was I had to go do some shopping. I plan on buying 1 or 2 outfits a week until I have a full wardrobe. Also have to buy some shoes.. all I have are sneakers and heels.. can't do either of those!

I think it's exciting to have such a respectable job. I've always worked retail or fast food.. mostly fast food. So this is like the first respectable job I've ever had and it's awesome!

I've never worked for anyone who forbade making calls from work for this sort of reason. You could send Subway an anonymous cheque to compensate them for the call you made, or compensate them openly when you do leave!
