Noise at a resturant....really annoying!

This annoys me to no end! Go to eat at a casual eatery like a pizza place or sit-down burger place....and they have 5 big screen tv's going...all on different channels...volume down on 3 out of the 5...and the radio station blaring! I hate that! I came to have a nice "dinner" with a friend and we have to yell at each other to hear each other. And if the tv's are on...why are the volumes turned down (not that I am complaining!) and if the tv's are on....with or without volume...why is the radio blarring? I always ask to at least hvae the radio turned down and often they do but other times...they say okay, and then don't do it! That really annoys me! Why do they do that? why so many channels and no volume or volume on more than one item? And the point is......? '

They want to act like they are a sports bar. Many of the new generation don't dine to talk but just to eat.I think it is because they didn't sit at the table , without the t.v.! I guess to just sit and talk you need the restaurant with the white table clothes.

I don't know. I used to go t a true sports bar . They had three giant screen t.v.s and they had a way for each table to choose which game you wanted to listen to.

oh yes, restaurants are noisy places. people talking to each other, friends talking and laughing... and yeah, some restaurants do have tv sets on too, others have their radio playing so it adds up to the noise. :D

That's the thing....people are talking to each other...dozens and dozens of people are talking to each other...that alone is a loud sound! But acceptable as that is what it is supposed to do. But with loud music blarring...people just talk louder to be heard and before you know it it is just a blarring loud place...not somewhere "fun" to go eat.

Oh my. I really thought this was going to be a discussion about loud kids or something. Was I ever wrong! I actually have never had this experience in a restaraunt even a very casual one. I would definitely say something. I don't imagine you are the only one that finds this annoying. Sounds more like a bar. geez.

No, not a bar. It is like Red Robin, Red Lobster, Famous Dave's, places like that. Nice but not formal...family but not dressed up. I can handle the loud kids but the loud music that is so loud you can't even understand a word in the song or the musical part is wanging all over the place....all they have to do is turn it down a bit. I can't understand how the people can work in it all day long..bet they are going to have hearing problems in the near future.

Sounds as if a bunch of young people are working?? That happens in a lot of these places at night. Even the shift manager is apt to be a young person. If you go in during the day, you might find the higher up Manager or possibly even the owner. Tell him/her what is going on. I know where I work, we often have younger people working. If the boss wasn't around, they'd go and change the music to what they liked which often wasn't "family friendly" and crank the volume. After one complaint, my boss issued warnings. After the 2nd we were all told to leave the station at what he had it set at and to leave the volume alone. After the 3rd complaint, he put the stereo up out of reach and set it on the country station which I don't much like. Still...enough is enough. The music in a public place should be for background noise for the customers and not the enjoyment of the workers who won't be working long if they drive all the customers away. As for the Tv's ...They should just be off unless there is some big news or sports event and then they should be all on the same channel! I 've never run into this sort of thing thankfully. It just can't be good for business.

Exactly. Background noise. Not overwhelming, loud, blarring noise! Even stores have it blarring and I just walk right out. I mean, I am there to shop and need to think and consider and all. WIth the noise blarring so loud... I don't enjoy it and just don't bother...just walk out. Target has no music...even says on their front doors as you walk in... "this is a no distraction store"...meaning "we don't blare loud music at you while you are trying to shop". Kohl's is really bad about loud music... and it is the same half dozen songs over and over and over!!!

hi coffeebreak I know I have the same complaint. its as if everyone is suddenly struck deaf but the few of us who would like to just talk so the volumne is up so high the windows vibrate. you can hardly hear yourself talk to your companion/the blaring radios are the worst to me.I think a lot of people are addicted noise the more the better. It really gets to me. so I often go to my favorite restaurant on the days they have dinner specials as I know it will be quieter there. even children fussing are not that bad.

You got me here as I think it is ridiculous. I mean who watches TV with no volume and why does the music in a sit down restaurant have to be so loud. I would think they would want a pleasant atmosphere so the customers would order more food and or drinks so that they stay longer, hence spend more money. If I went to one and it was like this, it would be my last time. I mean, I can't chew, and scream my conversations at the same time. lol

I know! And when the music is loud...people have to scream at each other across the table as human instinct makes you want to talk much louder if you can't hear when spoken to. And if you have lots of people in the place...all talking loudly to be heard by their friends and that loud music blarring....it is pathetic. BUt it doesn't seem to matter to most...resturants are always full. I just don't understand why they continue to go or at least go and not complain to management. I can't believe anyone enjoys a meal with friends where everyone is shouting at each other!

I can only guess that this is habitual and out of habit for them. But yes I have to turn on the sound when watching TV, I would not be interested in sitting in the dark and or watching a mute TV.

The point is to create an environment where people feel pumped or excited. Most people don't really pay attention to the tv's anyways so they just turn it up as loud as it will go. If you wanted a quiet evening you should've went to a non- sports bar type restaurant.

I don't drink nor like sports...these are just regular family style resturants. Red Robin, Red Lobster, places like that. THey crank it up so loud, even the waitress's cant hear orders! I am always having to repeat myself cause they can't hear cause the music is so loud. People go to resturant to eat and visit, not be blasted with music, that half the time isn't even a style of music they like. I can understand some back ground music, but to be so loud you can't hear the person sitting across from you when they speak to you...and your order comes in wrong cause the waitress couldn't hear it ordered over the loud music...just not acceptable.

I have super-sensitive hearing, and would not be able to handle that. I would have not lasted five minutes in there, and would have probably walked out, before even sitting down. I have been known to do that if the place is too noisy, as soon as I get in there. Then I would send feedback to the manager somehow, and let her/him know exactly why I left the restaurant.

I ask to have it turned down. Sometimes they do sometimes they don't. And i have also walked out of a place when I walked in and it was so loud I couldn't even hear what the greeter was saying. I f I have to ask to repeat something that early in the meal.. I know it is just going to be worse once in the eating area.

The point is some people are not bothered by that, however, I am not one of them, so I don't eat in places like that. You would like this: there is a McDonald's burger joint near my summer home where they have a huge TV but instead of letting it blare, they show the captions. I don't mind that as much. Also at another more urban one not far from there they play classical music. They do this because they used to have a problem with too many unruly teenagers hanging out and bothering folks and a study showed that the kids can't stand classical music. Hmmmmmm. I liked it ok when I was a teen, but was always a little different...

Yes, that is very annoying. I'd also be annoyed if I were in your situation. Maybe I'd just leave the place instead of being continuously annoyed with that rude people. The restaurant is for eating and not for making noise. Every customer should respect each other and must not act as if they are in their own place.

I have left many times. When I can't even hear the waitress speaking to me... I get up and leave.

Ohh I hate the tv in a restaurant thing, I thought I was the only one. It is annoying because nine times out of ten it is some stupid sports crap. But when I went to this mexican restaurant there was a Spanish soap opera going on. Wow was that annoying I did not understand what the heck they were saying. I go there to relax and get away from the house and the noise there not bring it with me.

Hi ! Yes, sometimes being too noisy specially in the restaurant could be annoying. Haha! and having 5 big screen TVs showing different channels while the volume is loud plus radio playing in the background..wow! too annoying for me. I really prefer to eat in a restaurant that is very calming and could make me fell some privacy ofcourse to ejoy the food..haha!
