About a month ago I create discussion about how to check sites legitimacy but need little improvement. So I decide to make another one. Maybe not completed yet but might help other. Here the steps: 1. Use Whois tool. With this tool you can check: registrant name, their address, time creation and expiration sites etc. Note: you can use some site for this: domaintools.com, whois.net, whoisentry.com etc 2. Check the site with BBB.ORG Some suspicious sites can be check use by this with this site if the registrant located in specific country (right now I only know US and Canada) 3. If we checking PTC sites, use ptc-investigation.com 4. If we checking survey sites, use surveypolice.com 5. Check another sites/blog/forum and try to find any question / answer about particular site. To do that type XXX scam or legit in google/Mylot search bar (XXX = Sites) I hope this could help. Note: If someone know another method to check sites legitimacy I will grateful if you add your method here.

I use some of the methods you describe here but I also employ a few others. with all the checking it still don't guarantee a website won't be a scam site.

I know there is no guarantee but at least we not totally blind about particular site. Mostly I check suspicious sites with Whois tool and BBB.org. On Whois tool, First thing I look is registrant name and their address. If I can identify it on specific term (The registrant must be actual not just rent and their resident located in US or Canada) then I look on BBB.org. I only join sites if bbb.org accredited particular site with A- (minimum). Second thing that I look on whois tool is domain registration. Legit sites usually register their more than two year. If only one year or less, I doubt their legitimacy because there a chance that they not gonna renew/update their domain registration. At this point I gonna said that whois tool is very important when we want to check sites legitimacy. This tool not telling us their legitimation but information who came from this tool can tell us about the registrant and their domain. We can see some signs about them. For example, if the registrant is respected one, they gonna provide their real identity (Not hiding it). In some cases, the registrant only rent/buy other domain...... somehow I don't trust them, for me they look hiding something. This is answer your curiosity?

I wasn't curious, as I said before I use some of your methods. Here are a few sites I use to check for legit websites: 1. http://heatkeys.com/ 2. http://website.informer.com 3. http://www.quarkbase.com/ 4.http://websitetrafficspy.com/ I have lots more but these websites give a lot of details about the site I'm investigating. You are right about registrant hiding something sometimes they will lease from a host in the U.S. to make it appear that they are in this country when in fact they are in another country. ...

I appreciate your work to help the online earners in this community. Today I came across scamadviser.com, who advice you about trustworthiness of a site and all the information they compile for you in a single place. I guess, by referring a site over there, we can foresee the probability of a scam.

I always try to look for user reviews about a site before joining it, that way if there's negative feedback, I'll know about it before joining.

I called this XXX scam. I use this system too but sometime I saw fraudulent in there. For example, the reviewer wrote something but sound like promoting rather than investigating.
