Why does terror attract people.

In 2012 the end of the world is coming. More and more people believe this and the Media is zooming into this belief, almost any time you can find a science channel or history channel that will give you all the evidence you need to believe. What is the attraction here, if people didn't watch these they wouldn't air them. They give information and put it together like any good conspirator tale. But like that tale there is no proof, and no solution, so what is the point? Terror. What is your take on this?

Yes, terror will result in fear among people, from there on, the leader can control the masses and manipulate their movement to reach his ill conceived goal, terror is the best tool for a dictatorial entity or individual to make the masses conform to his or his organization prescribed way of life without any personal dignity and liberty remain, it is commonly used to curtain individual right to freedom.

People predict things all the time...however the 2012 predictions will have an ill affect on people finacially. If the world is to end then lets live it up while we can attitute will find many individuals in a finational crisis when they realize that the new house, new car, new motorhome, new whatever needs to be paid off and dang it the world didn't end.

Terror doesn't attract people, it is used to scare people for the reason i stated before. Sometime it is also used to gain public attention for fame or toward a purported twisted goal the predictor want to achieve. You just can't avoid such type of personality exist in our world today, it is all up to you to make up your own mind how accurate the prediction is.

They are all sadly misinformed and misguided. The mayans never said the world was going to end. They said it was going to be a re-birth. However i believe what the scriptures say on this. The earth will never be destroyed or depopulated. The literal earth is permanate. Ec.1:4; Ps.104:5. Just like in Noah's day the earth was not destroyed, just the wicked were. 2Pe.3:5-7; Ge.7:23. 2Tim.1:6-9; Re.7:9,14. God's purpose for the earth was for it to be a paradise filled with perfect humans. Ge.1:28; 2:8-15. This has not been filled yet but God's purpose is certian. Isa.55:11; 46:10,11. Earth will be filled with peacful perfect humans. Ps.72:7; Isa.9:6,7. Paradise will be restored by God's kingdom. Mt.6:9,10; Re.21:3-5. Isa.65:17-25. Re.21:1-8. Maybe the ones fearing this time are the wicked one who will be dieing. But as for me i pray for this day to come, just as Jesus taught his followers to do. Mt.6:9-13.

I agree on you with the earth as a permanent place for humans. I believe heaven is a state of life, where all of creation comes to their ultimate perfection. After the flood, it was all perfect for Noah's family to thrive in. It was heaven for them. Prior to the time of the Great Depression in the 1930's, the US was on a state of a new era of prosperity. It was heaven for them. See? We can have heaven on earth. These moments of "heaven" though are temporary. But a time will come when the ultimate "heaven" shall take its form on earth. And when it comes, it shall be here to stay - forever!

Hi savypat, I think that we are going to see more and more of this as we get into 2012, and particular as December 21st of that year approaches. My thought is that someone is making a lot of money from this. I wonder just how many books have been written about this upcoming doom. I'm not sure why so many people are attracted to stories about the end of the world, maybe it's fear. Blessings.

I´m 66 years old and at least 4 or 5 times in my life there has been a story about a date for the end of the world. The last time was on 2000. I have wondered many times why is it that people are so interested in these omens and are so little interested in life as it lays before us. We are all going to die sooner or later (the end of the world for each of us) but meanwhile, why don´t we sing a joyous song to life?

I think it's natural and inherent in most people to want to get scarred or frightened without really being directly affected by it ( not unless you have a weak heart) I think this accounts for box office successes of horror films. The same thing happen when channels like Nat Geo, History,Discovery etc... airs things like our sun getting sucked into a black hole, my God! I don't think none of us will be alive when this happens but we like the thrill of being frightened, Probably most people have also been watching Jessie Ventura LOL

i was kind of the 2012: destruction concept. I mean WoW! thee religion belief and science actually came to an agreement about something, i mean other religion started believing that their creator would come down from his throne and judge us all if we are either going to heaven or hell. But still the fact that there are no proofs that our world will really end, we already survived many phenomenons or destruction threats from different people, we survive the 2000 theory and the sheperds' something prediction which is around july ? I wouldn't be surprised if we survived the 2012 theory ONE MORE THING! IF I SURVIVED IN 2012 IM GONNA WATCH ALL MOVIES, LISTEN TO MUSIC AND REA DALL THE BOOKS WITH THE CONCEPT OF 2012 DESTRUCTION ON IT :))

(i didn't realize that i was off topic haha i was really fond of the 2012 theory) on topic: well those who wants authority and power through the people that supports them use the terror and fear that people feel, terror is one of the most strongest power in the universe (reference: green lantern :P) and i kind of believe it, when you are terrified you will do things that you would normally do. Technically in the market when it the time it will be nearing december 2012, all of products would lessen it's price and many companies will blame each other for this 2012 theory. If we ever survived this 2012 theory then world would be like normal again and there will someone again that will say something about the destruction of earth around 2050 or something then the 2012 theory would again dissolve from the history just like the 2000 one.

It’s funny how the terrible and horrific draw so many people in. The media really milks this, for example they love to show us the crashed car with the blood stains on it while announcing that there has been an accident and people have been hurt or killed. People will turn their heads while driving past a crash trying to get a decent view and if there is scary news out there human nature has it that we all want to know more and more about it while feeling horrified. I do think that the media does have a great deal to do with this. The way I see it, if the world is going to end there is nothing I or anyone else can do about it so what is the point in excessively talking or worrying about the subject...

We don't know how terror strikes and how things change around. The belief that the world is going to end in 2012 is just a tragic madness that is spread across the world, no one knows what will happen today or tomorrow. Everything can end in just a fraction of second. So coming to the topic the reason terror attracts people is because of fear. We have been witnessed to many dangerous natural calamitous, heard things that will make our mind shook. Due to these prolong consistence of fear in people's mind any news that is very shocking and fearful attracts people so the reason is very simple. No fear no terror. So inspite of thinking all the consequneves in 2012 lets just chill and enjoy our life and give it in hands of God.

I, personally, believe in positive thinking. Every time there's a show on about what might happen, I refuse to watch it. I've always believed if you're positive about something, then no negativity will happen. In Australia, we have a saying, "She'll be right, mate", and that's how a lot of us Aussies live by, we don't go in for the doom and gloom.

People no matter how much they say they hate misery, they really do find themselves curiously endeared to it to say the very least. And let's face it, if someone tends to come up with some crazy theory, like that awful and stupid 2012 theory, there are going to be someone who takes it even further, feeding the paranoia of people. People tend to be rather gullible by nature and want to believe the worst. The thing is that any tale, no matter how stupid, if people hammer it home often enough, they are going to believe it. There are going to be many people who spread that fear to others. Theories like this tend to spread faster than any disease and if someone thinks logically for just one minute, they'll really see how stupid something like this is.

I think people love this kind of thing because there is something inside of us that is deathly afraid of the unknown. Some people have a need to be horrified, whether it be watching a good horror movie or watching documentaries about the inevitable. Or what we perceive to be the inevitable. I also believe that even though people love the theory of terror, they are never prepared for any of it. Like, if the end of the world was world, who would really be prepared? Think about it.

No one ever knows when will be the end of time. Only God knows. The 2012 movie which many people believed to be true is just a prediction of man. We cannot trust on the human prediction because they are also humans like us. They might got mistaken of their predictions because they are not God. In the Bible, you can find the signs of time. For example, it is written in the Bible that there will be a very strong earthquakes that no man ever experience. Kingdom will rise against kingdoms and many more. We might see these signs but we don't really know when will be the second coming of Jesus Christ. We should not be blinded by the teachings of men. Seek the truth and the truth shall set you free. Read the Bible and you will know the truths you are looking for. Do not be ignorant but be wise.

Terror attracts some people because they find pleasure in doing it. The cause of this could be due to the different influences they had in life. Hitler, Queen "Bloody" Mary, Nero and others had all experienced agony in the earlier parts of their lives before they eventually turned evil. Some people might argue that life's experiences or social influences cannot be the sole factor for determining one's behavior. They say that one's acts are a result of his own personal decision and not of anybody or anything else's. I may agree on this but if one grows up seeing relationships in his/her family shatter and being constantly beaten up on the hands of a father who only knows physical contact as the best form of discipline, hatred and anger will eventually be in one's heart. But if one grows up being given importance and love in the family, I think no individual will go astray. What grows and blossoms from the heart is a result of what was planted in it.

I refuse to watch these shows or buy into this scam. If we did not watch them, you are right, they would not air them. If it is going to happen, we cannot help it, so why worry, if it is not going to happen, why worry? Why worry?

I don't think any man could possibly know when exactly the world will come to a end. Wasn't someone just saying that the end of the world was going to be May 21, 2011 at 6 pm? That didn't happen. I think the same person is now saying it is now to be Oct. something of this year. I don't think anyone can really know.

I pretty much ignore these theories. The Bible says no man can predict the timing end of the world -- not even Jesus himself. We shouldn't have to do anything but walk with God and live as we normally do, and we'll be ready when the time comes. Since I don't have a TV, I don't get too much exposure to the media anyway, and I'm really not afraid.

It in no denying that thousands of people believe that the year 2012 is the end of the world. and even some people maintained a belief that try their best to do what they need to do and do the most important thing they haven't to do. for example, some friends around me have been married because they thought that is the most important thing in one's life, if they have not done it, there is no time to deal with because of the so-called end of the planet. for me, we should see it in a right way and from a scientific view. And if it is true, we can do nothing in a so short time, we just do what we have to do and live a normal and positive life, that is OK.

people respond to this so called "warnings" of terror beacause they want to know and prepare ahead on what to prepare and do. some respond just for curiousity. even with evidences,i think the end of the world theory is still a speculation. nobody really knows when the world will end because no one of us even know when the world begun.;-)
