Does eating ice cream makes you feel better when you feel down?

I feel that my spirit is a little off today. There are things which make me worry, more on the financial aspect. And thinking about this makes me feel a little bit depress. I tried to talk to my hubby but the news he gave me even let me down. I know this is just a phase and when I wake up tomorrow probably I would feel a lot better. Anyway, I went to the mall to take my mind off from things. While I was there I saw an ice cream ad. Without thinking, I bought an ice cream. It didn't totally take my blues away but something on the ice cream lifted my spirit. After a bad day do you feel much better after eating your comfort food?

I am kind of a fitness guy so only a good meat after exercise is my comfort food :) And ice cream will make will feel worse cause it has a lot of fat inside.. But some times on a hot vacation day it can be nice and yamy :)

I was arguing with that on my mind earlier but the double fudge ice cream won haha. I was just so down and sad. I think I can eat a gallon of it.

I do loves to eat ice cream when i am feeling down. But, i prefer not to eat too much of ice-cream since it can makes me grow fat and unhealthy. Now, whenever i am feeling down, i prefer listen to music or planting flowers. It makes my body more healthier and even i can see my home more beautiful adorning them with colorful flowers.

I hope I won't feel depressed all the time so I can avoid it. Planting could be a very good stress reliever also minus the calories.

Yes, when you planting flowers, you move your body a lot and thus burning the calories. Besides that, your home looks more beautiful with those flowers.

I love ice cream~~ I eat it because I like it not because I'm down though. When I'm down I usually eat chocolate, I think chocolate makes me feel better than ice cream.

I think if you'll combine music and eating chocolate ice cream will certainly make you feel better and happy. But of course not necessarily that I am sad everyday.

Yes, eating chocolate sometimes do helps to relax my trouble mind as well. But, i try not to indulge in this kind of habit more often since it is not healthy in the long run. For me, listening to music is the best since it gives me peace of mind.

Oh I love ice cream anytime..up, down doesn't matter. There is something very festive and fun about ice cream..maybe it's the association with birthday parties or any celebrations? I think as long as it is eaten in moderation it is good for us...I do watch the calories though. I buy ice cream that is 120 to 150 calories per half cup and avoid the ones that are 240 per half cup...

Totally! I love eating ice cream, especially my favorite flavor (chocolate) when I'm down or when I'm not in the mood. I feel like it helps me a lot to feel better. I usually eat ice cream when I feel down, depressed, irritated, and mad at someone.

Different people have different food as their comfort food. I feel better if I eat a bunch of bananas when I am down, and if I dont have a stock at home, I raid my freezer and have a small piece of chocolate followed by a glass of cold water. That will make me feel good and it will also give me some mental strength to sit and think rationally too.

Good for you it's banana. Make sure you got a handful of that so you don't need to sneak on the fridge for the chocolate. I have a sweet tooth and everytime I feel a little bit down I am into eating sweets.

Hallelujah COMFORT FOOD! I know eating a lot of food isn't good for you when you're feeling down since the weight gain is gunna bring you down even lower with your self-esteem. But it does help the spirit since it's keeping your mind off of what's bothering you by indulging on good things. I love ice cream don't get me wrong! XD But I use to do the comfort food thing now I just go for walks, focus on my hobbies, and try to avoiding consuming too much of my daily intake of food or I'll feel sick.

That's true if you are not careful with what you consume you could have a problem on your weight. In fact, for myself it is really a struggle because I have a sweet tooth. I really do have cravings for sweets and I am guilty of giving in to that craving most of the time.

Yes, it does.. It is one of my comfort food - since it is sweet and so delicious. God thing i don't feel down all the time r i'll be eating ice cream all the time.. and be unhealthy.

Everything that has simple carbs will make you feel better when you feel down, sugars activate the serotonin in our body that is the "feel good hormone". It also works if you eat chocolate, or candy.

So that explains why I did that. I think a lot of people does that too. I remember before when I was still working and I was about to cry when my boss called me. He said "relax, eat ice cream first before driving". Of course I followed his advice hehe.

Yes, I have heard of something to that effect. There was study done on ice cream and it's effect on people who are dpressed.The study showd that ice cream can help to highten your mood.Some times when I am down,I like to watch a really funny moive,or just one of favorite movie. That seems to help too.

I am not familiar with this study I'd better look for it. But I think it is because of the sweetness and the coldness. For me the sitcom of "How I met your mother" could certainly make me feel better.

Yeah I feel much better whenever I eat my favorite foods. I don't know. They're just very comforting. Whenever I feel sad, I just go to my favorite restaurant and order my favorite dish and then after eating it, somehow, I would feel a lot better. Shopping also releases the stress and also makes me feel better. It takes my mind off of things.

scientifically, sweets really comfort us whenever we feel down. it's because when we eat something sweet it makes our brain produce dopamine which eases our stress.. in short it's true that our comfort foods specially the sweet ones does really comfort us most often than we can imagine...

I guess we all have done it,well i have when my girlfriend in high school broke up with me i ate much ice cream because i felt good but it didn't last long and i felt the same hole in my heart again.Eating somethin you like when you're depressed makes you feel good i don't know why.But eating Ice cream really does make you happy.Scientists have found that a spoonfull of the cold stuff lights up the same pleasure centre in the brain as winning money or listening to your favourite music.So maybe thats the reason we all feel good eating ice cream...
