Reality it really isn't, but....

There are a lot of reality shows: Biggest Loser, Project Runway, Dancing with the Stars...of course these are called competition reality shows and are thankfully different than "reality" shows like Jersey Shore. My point of the discussion is to ask which ones you watch, but what do you think about them? If I did a discussion on Dancing with the Stars I don't think I'd get many responses. But if we were talking about all of them I thought more people might join in. I watch Dancing with the Stars, and although I've missed the past 3 episodes of Project Runway, I usually watch that one too. On Runway I've really been impressed with Anya, although I think Victor is probably the best. On Dancing I was really looking forward to seeing soccer great Hope Solo compete, but her pairing with Maksim seems to have been a clash of the titans, if you will. I'm hoping JR Martinez wins. Not only is he in the top 2 of best dancers, but he is an war hero and not just a soap actor. It's really amazing to see what he went through and where he is now. I just saw that People has him on the cover of their magazine this week. That's pretty cool. Okay, any reality shows you watch, talk about them. There are plenty I didn't name like The X Factor, The Sing Off...

There is a reality show here in the Philippines, which is very famous and most watched by Filipinos. The "Pinoy Big Brother". It was only an adaptation but it is really nice show. There are thousands of Filipinos who are dreaming to be a housemate because once you entered the big brother house you will become a famous star. In this reality show, many personalities was shown. There are misunderstanding among housemates, friendship, and all.

So the person who wins Big Brother in your country actually becomes rich and famous through it?

I kind of lost interest in those types of reality shows. I used to watch the biggest loser but then it seemed like it was more about ratings then the weight loss. People turned against each other to win instead of focusing on what they were there for. Plus it seemed changes they made were hindering the contestants and the trainers were getting upset. I watched a little of Dancing with the Stars but sometimes it seems people stay in longer than they should because they are more popular with the public and other people go home when they are better dancers. I've never watched project runway.

I quit watching Dancing with the Stars one season because of that. People were going home that were far and away better dancers than the ones remaining. It annoyed me so much I quit watching for a season.

I watch a lot of "Reality T.V." shows. My all time fave has to be Survivor. I also love The Real World on MTV. That one is a real reality show with no competition etc. It's just a group of 20 something roommates thrown into the same house in a city to live, grow, and learn together. I like Survivor because that is as close to a reality competition type show that's real. Granted they do have a staff of hundreds with the survivors, but they are there basically for health and safety reasons not to help them etc. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Some of the reality shows are a real weakness with me! The three that I follow religiously are "SURVIVOR" full of cunning, stratagy, and personality quirks! "BIG BROTHER" quite the same, but an easier environment .. and BIGGEST LOSER, as these people are facing such challenges..and the wonderfuly physical and mental transformations! I used to watch "Dancing with the Stars" and because this last episode started when I didn't have much T.V time, I didn't follow. The WORST reality show ..in my books, is "Toddlers and Tiara's"...turned my stomach watching these Mothers/Fathers living vicariously thru their children! By the way, Victoria, B.C. Canada was awarded the 2012 World International Curling Championships....I will have to PM you when they start. Take care, Ambie!

You should see Dance Moms which airs on Lifetime. I was fascinated with horror over how some of the moms behaved.

Maybe, just maybe, Ambie, it is a GOOD thing..I do not get Lifetime...if this show is anything like "toddlers and tiaras" I would lose my marbles. I can hardly believe that "anyone" can try and live thru their child--but of course, that is my take on it! I truly wonder what will happen to these children as they mature...will they truly have lost their focus...? Will they learn to develop skills...as beauty fades and wanes--outter beauty that is! Everything..everyone is so focused on the facade! Makes my blood boil! Sorry!

I watched one episode of Dance Moms and couldn't abide to watch another. I wanted to go through the screen and hit a couple of moms on the side of their heads.

I am guilty of watching reality shows. Somehow I seem to get sucked into and addicted to them. Luckily I don't have cable because then I would be sucked into those reality shows too. I watch Biggest Loser, Big Brother, Amazing Race, and The Bachelor/ette. The most realistic reality show that I watch is Amazing Race. I like to watch teams compete and complete tasks in other countries. Big Brother is fun to watch to see the different strategies people use to save themselves from getting kicked off. But the drama definitely makes the show interesting and makes my life look so much better. As for The Bachelor/ette, that is unrealistic to me. I know that on my first date, I will not be getting on a private plane or helicopter to go somewhere special. Although it's unrealistic to me, it's still fun to watch. Big Brother is also unrealistic to me because the contestants are secluded on a ranch away from jobs and families and life in general. But sometimes I feel like I have lost a couple of pounds just by watching their workouts. In the ideal world, that would be the way to lose weight, but I am not convinced that people have 2 + hours a day to be at the gym working out. I know I sure don't. Overall, I think that reality shows are fun to watch, but know that they portray the easy way to overcome life's obstacles.

As I mention in my response below, Expedition Impossible was a lot like The Amazing Race except there were teams of 3 with names made in advance and they stayed in one place. It was good.

Oh yeah, there're also a plenty of "Reality Show" in Indonesia. There's also "Big Brother" too! But, honestly, I prefer to watch some movies rather than reality show.. Because in such "competition reality show", I think I just see some "fake reality" there. Well, in order to win, they need supports from the viewers, right? So I see they're just do some acting to attract more supports, and it seems it's not "real reality" at all! It's better to watch some fiction movies than reality shows that claimed they are real, but in fact they're also a "fiction" too..

I used to watch the Survivor series, Biggest Loser and Top Chef. I know that some of these shows are scripted but when there is nothing to watch on TV, these are the shows that I watch. I also like watching Hoarders and Pawn Stars but I am not sure if they can be categorized as reality shows.

I saw the first Real World Way back in the 90's. I went on to see the next 5? Or 6? I don't watch it anymore. I Love Jersey Shore. They are one big dysfunctional family. And I see Bridezillas. They are some insane women out there! And Somehow I got into the Housewives of Jersey and Beverly Hills. But my favorite is the Bachelorette. I Do enjoy seeing a bubbly bride to be choose her husband. There is sooo much eye candy and then in time the real guys remain.

Yes. I'm happy for her. I didn't see her season. I came in later. My two faves to date are Ali and Ashley. Both are smart and sweet but seem not to know how Hott they are. It was fun watching them pick And I hoped they would pick the guys they did.The last time I checked, Ali and Roberto are still together but not married... yet. I call that a success. Not every couple need a wedding . And Ash and J.P. are engaged. they just finishe their season so we will have to see.

yes, i hope Jr wins as well. he is the best dancer. i am watching the xfactor this season. it seems to be ok. it is like america's got talent and american idol, but the judges are different. the x factor also includes over 30s, groups, boys, girls which is great because anyone with talent can join 12 years old and up. it seems Simon is mellower but i haven't seen the show in its entirety yet. i watch americas got talent and american idol. i love those shows plus just like you dancing with the stars. i do not watch the other shows there are too many especially in the music genre. this is it for me....

My brother-in-law is such a good singer that I wish he would try out for The X Factor. He used to tour Europe with a choir. I really wish he'd think about doing it if the show is renewed for another season.

I like to watch The Biggest Loser. I have only missed one show this whole season. And I really like The Bachelor and Bachelorette but they aren't on right now. I think The Bachelor should be starting soon. I used to love Dancing with the Stars but this season I just couldn't seem to get into it. I do know who JR Martinez is. I first saw him on All my Children and then on Dancing with the Stars and then a couple talk shows and now I saw him on People's magazine. He has really become popular, I think more so because of Dancing with the Stars. I think because of his personal story getting out on the show it made him more popular and likeable than he was when he was only on All my Children. It would be nice to hear he wins. I am still on the fence about The X Factor. Some weeks I like it a bit and other weeks I find it quit boring. Especially when they don't show you a whole performance, just pieces of a few. The Sing off I never have watched and not really interested in it. Too many singing shows at once to watch them all. Good luck and happy mylotting my friend, Chris

I didn't think I would get into this season of Dancing either. The cast was not that famous. Besides David Arquette, they were the usually D listers. Even David is like a B-. But if they wanted to cast people with good character, they did better. JR is definitely an A+ in that department. I hope this exposure will lead to something buf for him. Especially now that AMC has moved online and he isn't signed to it as of yet.

I don't watch any of those shows. In fact, I don't even own a television. I used to watch a lot of TV when I was younger, but I find most of the stuff on the tube now isn't worth looking at. I spend most of my time online now and so have no interest in watching TV. If someone else is watching something and I just happen to be there, I will watch sometimes; but that is the exception rather than the rule. Have a great week!!!

I used to watch Dancing With The Stars and The Biggest Loser, but not this season, they just didn't peak my interest. I watch The Sing Off, love it!! America's Got Talent, The Voice which is a new one and hopefully coming back for a second season because it was awesome.. I also like the Celebrity Apprentice. As far as "reality" shows, I watch Hoarders a lot, the one on TLC. Reminds me of my FIL's house, but I think his is worse than any place they've ever shown on that show.

You know what they served at the wedding reception of Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert? Venison quesadilles that they had killed the meat the night before themselves. That makes me laugh. What do you do with your fiance the night before you get married? Why you go hunt, of course! lol

Yes, I heard it was coming back, with all the same coaches. I think that's amazing because those guys are all huge stars! It's not like they got a bunch of has beens or never will be's on the show. They got huge celebrities who are willing to come back for a second season.. how awesome is that? Adam Levine is my favorite only because I've been a big fan of Maroon 5 for years. I think Blake is really funny too though. "If you weren't 6 foot 5 I'd kick your A$$" ~ Adam Levine to Blake Shelton, season 1 The Voice.

Here in the Philippines, we just had the recently concluded Pinoy Biggest Loser. I am amazed at how very fat persons were able to lose so much weight in a matter of 4 months. And to think that they lose at least 6 pounds every week. The winner was given a PpP2,000,000.00 cash, excluding other gifts such as one year free gym use at Fitness Program among others. He lost a total of more than 100 pounds, my actual weight! And he was already thin! The other 3 runner-ups were also give PhP500,000.00 each. Now, on October 28, a new reality show will again be started - Pinoy Big Brother and i know other countries have their own versions also.

We don't have it airing here in our country but if it was shown here, surely I would watch that. I just like Rob Kardashian. He's just so cute. In general, reality shows are really nice because we can know who the people really are.

I watch The X Factor, but am behind now. Simon is really nice in this show and really gives people a big chance when he thinks they can be a star. A young woman earlier this season song part of 2 songs to get 3 votes. I don't think she should have song 2 songs! There are plenty of people that really are 4 stats that have already song.

In general, I try to avoid reality TV show. Anything that talks about other people, boyfrind/girlfriend, feelings, emotions like you see in Real World, Jersey Shore, Big Brother, etc are either annoying, irritating, and wasting time for me. To me, Jersey Shore is like watching kids in grown up physiques. I prefer to watch Project Runway since it has to do with creation, accomplishment, steps, or anything that has to do with creating, thinking, innovating, or something alike. I actually don't watch this show that often. Fashion designers could learn something from this show if they want to make it big in the industry. Another kind of reality shows have to do with competition. Few that I watch include American Idol, America's Got Talent, and the new USA X-Factor. Dancing With the Stars is another one that I avoid watching since I do not like the concept of why different celebrities need to learn how to dance different styles in short periods. I, personally prefer to watch 'So You Think You Can Dance'. Watching amateur wannabe dancers are to me real compared to watching celebrities trying to improve or humiliate themselves in front of millions of viewers.

I actually would want to watch the American Idol better than the others since it involves talent. I acknowledge the fact that these reality shows are there for the money, and to show the candid side of a person can really make a big hit. However, if the candidness of one is not through his talent, then I would not want to turn someone into an experimental frog. This is why I do not like the Survivor Series, or the Fear Factor, and many others

I only like 2 "reality" shows,"Dancing with the stars" and "The amazing race".The first one I like watching for the dancing and to see how they learn to dance from week to week. Not very impressed with the judges, and definitely not impressed with the voters. It basically depends,on how well these celebrities are known and the amount of fans they have.this season I find it weaker than before, and only ricky Lake and J R Martinez are real contenders. And I still say that they should winn for their dancing only!!!The amazing race is my favorite,I admire these people that take on all mkind of challenges as they race around the world, and the ones that I admire the most, are those that take a moment to appreciate their surroundings, and show respect to each other and their hosts. Also like to learn about different places, cultures and customs.
