I dont knowhow many of you guys gets to follow this iconic and classic anime, Its one of the anime titled I enjoyed in my childhood but I never get to finish cos of the Tv network that airs its re-run( I was notborn yet when it became popular sothe one I watch is a re-run and its cancelled) In Japan its known as macross while in USA its known as Robotech. Its an action mecha anime,I can say its the prototype of Gundam. This Anime aired in my country around the 80's but I get to watch it via a Tv rerun, Basically its reaired on TV around 1997, But its rerun didnt became famous to kids cos it airs 7 am in the morning. I remember going to school and all my classmates talks about the anime that airs around 9 am, I bet they were all asleep during 7 am. Its one of those 80's science fictions that depicts year 2000 will be super hightech, but LOL it didnt, Its year 2011 already and we dont have space cities or Robot armored soldiers with badass laser weapons. This anime have the cliche alien villains who wants to destroy the world for no reason,But this anime have a good anti-cliche, Its romance angle. Yes for sure there had been romance angle in many action anime but its romance is something relateble and not cheesy, Its something even guys love. The Main character Rick is a soldier that fights aliens to save the world, His girlfriend is an aspiring singer, They use to have a good relationship but Rickhave to do his duty and his girlfriend Lin Minmay becamea popular star. Though its an action anime, Its love story shows the realities of relationship, The 2 protagonist didnt end up together He married a woman who is less beautiful than his girlfriend. For some reason I actually like that they didnt end up together, cos love pairings in anime always end up together.

I remember Robotech quite well. Yes Robotech is actually the mesh up of 3 japanese animes. Macross was the first part, Southern Cross was the 2nd part, and M.O.S.P.E.D.A. (Invid) was the 3rd part. robotech was considered a space soap opera by many. In the Macross era, Zentraedi were sent to earth to recover the battle fortress that the humans rebuilt and called the SDF1 or the Macross. (It crash landed on the Island of Macross hence its name Macross). Rick became a soldier out of necessity as he was an amateur pilot that got caught up in the space fold to Pluto as the RDF had the SDF1 leave so that the aliens wouldnt attack the Earth. On the way back to Earth the SDF1 and the citizens of Macross Island (now inside the ship)had to fight their way through the Zentraedi armada. During the adventure it was found out that the Zentraedi males and females were kept seperate from one another. That is why human male and female kissing worked so well against them. Eventually, the SDF1 made it back to Earth but the Zentraedi fired upon the Earth decimating the populace. Also during the series a Zentraedi female ace known as Miryia tried to find a micronian ace in battle. She found Max Sterling and after fighting they fell in love and had children. This was when they discovered humans and Zentraedi could produce children. That caused the original smaller Zentraedi armada that was sent to take back the SDF1 come to be thought "contaminated" by the Supreme Zentraedi overlord (Dolza) and He basically ordered the destruction of all the "contaminated" Zentraedi. The "contaminated" Zentraedi (those that witnessed human kissing and culture were led by Breetai) knew their fate and joined the Humans to defeat Dolza. The Zentraedi then were on earth and tried to assimilate with the humans except for Kyron. He wanted to destroy the SDF1 for embarrassing him so often. He got his way too and that is what ended the Macross saga on Robotech. Rick went on to marry Lisa Hayes (First officer of the SDF1). Minmay didnt want Rick to fight anymore even though he had to. That was one of the primary reasons he choose Lisa instead of Minmay.

I just found out that all of its episodes are uploaded in youtube, legally!! The fact its was there legally makes me happy because after decades, I fnally get to watch the Macross saga in a marathon. so that is the reason why he dumped Minmay. he chose Lisa, because just like him,she is a soldier.( she is kinda older than him right?)I never get to watch the other sagas but I hear that they were actually anime with no relation with Macross. I remember Mirya, she tried to cook with a gasoline because she mistaken it with a cooking oil. This anime got me a bit dissapointed when I grew up.when I was a kid watching it, I was expecting the technology by year 2000 will be just like Macross. Its still a great classic to me though

You are right. Robotech is on youtube as well as other places you can find all the episodes. Robotech is also on the Manga app for Xbox 360 (Xbox Live) I think you might have to have a gold membership for this though. I also know in Japan they made more Macross series. For insance, Macross 7, and Macross Frontier. You are correct that the other parts of Robotech did not have anything to actually do with Macross. Those were tied into the series by Carl Macek and basically written in how they are all related. Lisa was only a few years older than Rick. She was 24 at the beginning of the series while Rick was 19. This was according to the Robotech RPG main book that lists game stats for some of the characters in Robotech / Macross era. I also would have loved to have technology now like they did in Robotech. I have always wanted to pilot a Veritech jet. They were always my favorite as I love fighter jets. I absolutly love Robotech myself kinda wish they could redo the series but with better animation that is out there now.

I watched this in the 90's imagine a little kid who got fascinated by this show, getting excited for year 2000 to come because then, I was really expecting allthose technologies will exist in year 2000. One of the best things in Robotech, is Min May's song, to be in love. I know its cheesy but as a kid, I found it good. I mean its lyrics are much better than the ridiculous murder of English language most mainstream music have been using
