I do not understand the meaning of "gateway 504". What is the meaning of "gateway 504"? Does it mean you are 'ban'? Well, I tried to access a site, but I keep receiving those messages. I didn't do anything wrong -- what does it mean? How did you know if you are ban from a site? Are you going to receive a notification or what? -- just asking.

It means server error. It's same with error 404 when using a mobile phone to access the internet.

Not exactly, it is the same that a 408 error -- Request time-out --, except that the time-out problem does not come from the main site, but from a gateway. It does not indeed means "You are banned" but, like you said, it is only a server error.

Likely it is to mean that there is some kind of load on the server that cannot be handled. Or the website was configured by drunken monkeys, if you're talking about the website that I think that you're talking about. Really all of these numbers really do not matter. It really does pour down to the same common issue, that being the website is really not working all that well. No more, no less than that. Of course, these errors will happen. Most respectable website owners will take steps to fix this issue so whatever happens won't be happening like say on heavy traffic days. Of course, many people really do put up a website and have no idea how to fix these issues. Still when you think about it, there is some kind of issue with the servers. Perhaps its a strange or perhaps whoever set up the website really doesn't know what they are doing. That's what it breaks down to.

Hi introvet! I am not an expert in computer/internet/networking or whatever it is but I read a lot and I've been curious about this before, actually you are not ban if you see those error message, that happens to most users in some sites that we are trying to access. It is actually just a connection/network problem between servers. If you are looking for a detailed explanation on that here is a link for you to visit http://pcsupport.about.com/od/findbyerrormessage/a/504error.htm I hope it helps
