I don't know if I am up to this task

A co - worker of mine will take his vacation tomorrow, and he will be off for the rest of the month until December. At our work place, it is more like a workshop, and we have do the Static testing according to the industrial standard for each station. Today, before he took off, he assigned that task to me, and I just don't have experience with it. I only saw him do it every month visually, but I didn't actually do it myself. I only nod my head, and I probably try my best to make it done. I hope that I didn't screw it up, because I will not only test the stations, but I also have to fill out the paperwork with the recordings from those testing devices. I am a bit nervous about it.

Just start the job, no need to be nerves and the good news is: you can always end it if it doesn't work out for you. you might surprise yourself how good you are, see it as a challenge/adventure!

Do the best that you could. I do hope there's still a way for you to call him in case you suddenly forget some process that has to be done.

Grab the chance. It is always a chance that somebody from the work place are going go for vacation that you can try take up their jobs and prove your abilities. If you have doubts now, ask your colleague but do have the confidence of having it completed.

Maybe you should try asking him what are the things that you're supposed to do with the task. You have to know the necessary things so that you won't get wrong in doing the task. If you're not sure with what you're doing, try to ask help from other people.

If you really are not sure that you can handle the task, better inform your superiors or your co-worker ASAP. Doing so, you save yourself the mental headache and the tag of being a failure if you do not meet what has been expected from you.
