Springfield Missouri this preacher is helping the homeless and giving them a place to stay when there is no place else to stay. But the city of Springfield Missouri puts a stop to it. They say that the preacher can't let the homeless stay on his property. What the heck is going on with this world? Someone is helping people that really need help and the City of Springfield they say he can't let them stay there but don't know why they can't stay. Nothing on the news about why but just that they can't stay.

This entire discussion is very interesting. I wonder what the city of Springfield recommends as a solution to the homeless population? It's crazy. I've read of "tent cities" being demolished, of homeless being driven out of parks as if they were cattle or something. I've never been truly homeless so it's hard to imagine the indignities of it, but I have great sympathy for those who are. I have a brother who lives on the edge of homelessness through no fault of his own. He depends on the goodwill of others to stay off the streets. As to the preacher, he is doing what all preachers and churches are supposed to be doing. The church in America dropped the ball on that one a long time ago. Now they're so tied up in regulations they've willingly let governments put on them, that they are helpless in a lot of situations, like this one. I think we should pray blessings on this preacher and pray that God will give him a way to do what his heart tells him should be done. God help us when we treat our fellow citizens this way.

I think that when America helps other countries, it's purely political. Helping our own people should be a no brainer, though, I agree to that. Yes, Christians should help each other. We should want to and not do it out of a sense of duty. Our government isn't Christian, though, so they have to have other reasons for doing things.

I think your right when America helps other countries it is purely political. We all as good Christians should do is do what God would want us to do and that is do unto others as we would have done unto ourselves! We should do it because it is right not as a job just because it is the ribht thing to do!

I didn't hear what their solution was and don't think they had a solution. I pray that God helps this man do what he was doing! It just plain sickens me how much America does for other countries but they can't even see what is wrong in their own back yard. Too many rich people trying to get more from those that can't afford it. If we all stopped and thought of our own people and did things just to help each other not looking for anything in return just do what we could do there might not be so many homeless in this great country. After all isn't that what Christians should do is help each other?

Actually my pet peeve is that churches all over the world are not opening their doors to the homeless, I feel that is the godly thing to do, I would be very interested in what their reasons are for stopping the preacher from doing this, is it because of health and safety reasons or are they jus stupid....

I don't know why they stopped it but they did and I am pissed about it because I have been homeless and it would have been nice to have a safe place to lay my head. That is what is so stupid about it they keep to themselves they don't go on anyone else's property this is property that the church owns and the preacher was trying to help these people get off the streets. They are just plain stupid I think. God will bless this preacher for opening up his heart and land to those in real need. There are families with children out there that really need help. There is one homeless man that has a job but they won't let him stay and he works till it is too late to get into a shelter. When your homeless you don't have the conveniences of getting a bath on a regular basis not to mention that you don't have a place to even go to the bathroom without having to go to a public place but this preacher offered all he could and the city of Springfield Missouri put a stop to it. I worte this post in hopes that someone from Springfield Missouri would read it and stop the city from doing this awful deed to those in real need. I think this the city officials suck because they want to stop helping the homeless!

@free_man, have you thought about writing a letter to the editor of a newspaper there? The Springfield News Leader seems to be the major newspaper there, but here's a list of the ones that supposedly cover the area: http://www.allyoucanread.com/springfield-newspaper-mo/ I'd give them the link to this discussion and let them know the situation is being talked about negatively.

Hey Peavey. Thanks for the link never thought about it but think they might need to hear from someone that lives in the area and let them know how it sucks to think they would do this to the less fortunate! Thanks my friend!

Personally the problem is No one seems to think there is a huge epidemic here, and feel that homeless people are lazy, and using Taxpayer money not stopping to realize that these people are really just like you and me, and most of them might have even had a nice home, and good jobs before the economy crashed. People need to open their eyes instead of being so heartless. What will it take for them to be more compassionate and caring? If I had more $$ and a bigger home I would be allowing more people to stay here in our house not that the colder weather is approaching for sure. In reality, I almost sometimes think some people really have no heart.

I was homeless one time through no fault of my own but thank God some kind woman gave me a job and helped me get a place to stay and thank God I pray I will never have to be homeless again. You hit the nail on the head it is all about money the rich keep getting richer and the poor keep getting poorer. Money is the root of all evil! Your right on homeless isn't just here in Springfield Missouri it is all over the USA. The solution isn't just having a place to lay your head it also has to do with jobs and being taught skills too. You have to have a place to wash and clean yourself up. People thinking the homeless are lazy is full of crock. When I was homeless I did everything in my power to stay clean and tried everyday to find a job. Most of the homeless people I met wasn't lazy they just plain don't know how to get off the streets.

I agree Krause God bless you, Some say, the homeless are lazy that don't want to work. Someone should go and kick these lazy bums in the butt and tell them to go get a job. - - It is sad but this is how I think, some people actually do think and it is so very stupid really. Many people have very good reasons for being homeless and if they could work they would, but who will hire them? Some people should change their thinking and understand there is a reason for the way things are. Homelessness can happen to anyone, really. I commend this preacher for wanting to help and you for wanting to be so charitable but also understand, I think what is going on. People wanting designated areas for residential, I am assuming is the problem for city of Springfield Missouri. I’ve seen residential areas boycotting children they call them “adult communities” without schools, playgrounds and do not want little kids running around in them. The homeless problem does need help. It is a slow recovery that starts with basics needs being met and then move on from there that allows people to live a reasonable life. If there are health issues this needs to find the right support and if people are able to work, why not help workers get established in a prospering community? However consider, if any city were to establish a great “help area” for the homeless count on it being over-populated because migration would begin from all over the land. It is a very large problem not just for Springfield but everywhere. I’ve seen charity and non-profits pull together to establish housing but it is only a bandage solution, I think that fast become permanent. We know what the problem is in this world and what is causing it – it is a funny little s with two lines through it and it does have no heart.

It is crazy, there should be no reason, you are allowed to have guests at your home.

It is crazy. He didn't have them in his home he had a large spot where his church is and he set up nice tents for them on his property. It is just plain crule that some rich people just plain can't help instead of complaining about the homeless. You know what makes it even worse there are veterans that served this country and there are some of them that are homeless. That stinks no matter how you look at it!

It is probably all about the money. Well let them all go to Hungary. The great news is it's forbidden to be homeless. So if you are homeless/are living on the street the police will give you a nice warm place to stay. Isn't that great during the cold winter?

Oh wow! In Hugary they do that? How very nice is that. I mean here in America we can afford to do game show's and lotteries and pay our sports teams astronomical amount's of money and yet we cannot feed our homeless & provide adecuate shelter for them if they wanted it. I really feel all families under a certain income bracket should be allowed food allowances that some of that money goes to instead of always giveing it away in Lotteries or game shows.

Wow that is so cool that Hungary would do that for the homeless. America spends too much money on stupid stuff. We need to help the homeless. Been there and it isn't easy to get a job or get out of that situation without help. Thank God there was a woman that helped me get a job and a place to live.

I think it's great what the preacher had intentions to do and tried to do. There is always the laws, rules & regulations and city codes and those type of thing's though that have to be followed. I am sure those are the true reasons why they have to shut thing's down. I mean when you live in town home complexes where there are Home Owners Associates which also applies to almost all nice neighboorhoods they have strict guidelines and expectations of all those that live or come into their commmunities. If someone wanted to paint thier home Pink or Neon Green they usually have to confirm this with the HOA. I have seen HOA's fine people for broken screens or not liking the doors they have up or how they have landscaped. I hope that they reconsider this decision for the preacher a little bit and maybe help him in other ways to fulfull this misson.

I can see all that you have said but still they were in a city not near homes. He was doing what he thought God would want him to do and he had it all neat and people were in tents not in sight of everyone. I think it is a lot of bull I think that the city wanted money for this or that and the homeless was in their way of this or that!

Remember when Jesus said at the end they will all stand before him and he will say to those on the left depart from me you workers of iniquity, for when i was hungry you didn not feed me ,when i was naked you did not cloth me,when iwas homeless you gave me no place to lay my head, and they said when did we do these things and jesus replied what ever you did to the least of these you done to me.go into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. You see they are not attacking the preacher that is God the are attacking so ha,,,they will have to answer for that, and their greed. "Helping the others is the most beautiful prove of love to God". You got that right sister they will pay for it in the end but the homeless need help now that is what really pisses me off to no end. I remember that story very well thank you for reminding me. To the devil with the city officials of Springfield Missouri. I hope one of them reads this post so they will know that people out here in the world don't like it when they don't treat everyone respectful. You know another thing is these city officials are sitting in their warm homes eating a hot meal and not even thinking about the affect that they did to these homeless people and on top of that not really caring if anyone but them have a warm home. Heck I hope they all one day have to be homeless at least for a month without any where to go but the shelters that they have for the homeless. They won't like it and they won't appreciate not being able to use the bathroom when they need to.
