The only agricultural controversy our country had that makes the international news are the milkfish fishkill, some incident of Foot in mouth disease in Pork but its not as serious as what happened overseas, then the genetically modified corn controversy that makes a village sick but thats it. We dont have cases like pesticide mass poisoning, cancerous genetically modified food, vegetables rich in salmonella or milk with cancerous chemicals, those controversies had been common in United States,China and more countries that are richer than our country. They have higher technology in agriculture but they have more controversies when it comes to the livestock ,fruits and vegetables. I remember a news about a salmonella outbreak of beans sprouts , Bean sprouts is one of the purest and most nutritious vegetables ever. In our country there is no incident of bean sprout salmonella poisoning, Basically in our country, Mung beans are sprouted in sterelized cheesecloth and water, in europe and United states, they sprout them in Animal manure. I know there are some sanitary controversies in our country too but we have less incidents of vegetable poisoning. I think our farmers do use manure in some crops but its dried and sterilized before turned into fertilizers. from what I know the popular fertilizer in our country are rice hulls (skin of rice) Guano(its bat manure) and snails. I just realized the food we eat is much more safer than the vegetables in United States. and to think of it, we only have few organic farms,

I agree. Our farmer don't spend much on chemicals but rather, they try to use natural resources to save money and to minimize wastes.

I think our government is trying to give them organic fertilizers and pesticides now, I saw it on TV. I think our farmers needs more support. This video features the corn GMO controversy that happened in our country from what I heard those corn seedlings that got planted in our country is from Monsanto, An American company known for genetically engineered food. http://www.naturalnews.tv/v.asp?v=73341052F6386E61DBDB60C0AEB5C019 Monsanto had been providing Americans with GMO crops that causes so much damage, Other than that we dont have much controversies with our crops.

Yup! It will be bad due to abusive conduct of some news agencies like those television network in our country. They should not news beyond the limit and there is an ethical standard in journalism that should be followed. But I notice some news reporter did not follow such ethics in journalism... We have good agricultural sectors which is no infected afar from what the news in other countries... Our agricultural sector being affected because of those imported vegetables...and meat products which carried out of virus or anything diseases. This must be secured by the government to be sure that our agricultural industry in the country is not affected from those imported products carrying any diseases

Actually we dont even have much news againts the safety of our food. Our foods and produce actually have a better reputation than the foods produced from US and China. We actually are one of the countries with the least food safety controversy,

Well natural is always better. The more we try to technologize something, the more problems will arise. We should be proud of our Filipino farmers. Theirs is a hard work that no one would dare try. As for organic farms, we have a vegetable patch at home, I think it's organic. But it's only for our consumption, we never sold the produce. We did gave some away to our neighbors, in exchange for some other type of produce. Hey, that kind of life still exists.

it seemed like the good old traditional way of farming could be better than the high technology ones. Imagine eating genetically modified plants with bacteria and animal DNA, yes that thing is happening in the US. Then there i the pesticides and all the manure fertilizer controversies. China have the most controversy though when it comes to produce, They have exploding watermelon, eggs with melanin,Milk with melanin, vegetables with lead... I guess mass produced stuff is disturbing, I want to buy a house with a very large backyard, I want to plant my own vegetables.

I guess... it just demonstrates that progress does not necessarily mean problems will go away or be solved. It's just that there are different problems that arise. Unfortunately, I guess, when one goes 'hi-tech' or something like that, the problems seem to go 'hi-tech' as well. Lol!!
