Wavy shaped nails

I have some weird shaped nails. I figured it might be because I type a lot and maybe the nails hitting the keys cause them to bend and get wavy.. I'm not sure if that is it or not. I hate it that I don't have pretty nails like other people. I would wear false nails, but I know they won't stay on long with me having my hands in water a lot. I'm afraid I will get a fungal infection by having false nails on. I've seen friends have them and they get fungal infections. Does anyone here have oddly shaped nails. My index nails are perfect.. but it is my middle and ring fingers of both hands that are oddly shaped. The are kind of wavy like the ocean. I'm not talking about ridges.. although I do have ridges also.. that's part of aging I think. I take vitamins, so I don't think I have a vitamin deficiency. Your thoughts?

Dr, Oz talked about nails and says doctors often look at the nails for signs of different diseases. here is one source but I am sure there are many more http://www.nikanails.com/en/about_nails.html

This sounds like a topic I might write about.... everyone wants to know about their nails. I remember when I was little my brother shut my hand in the car door.. it was just one hand... I have a scar on the middle finger of my right hand... the nails of that hand on 2 fingers are waved...but I also have wavy nails on the other hand same two fingers that are also waved... so I don't know what caused it. But I think my next writing project will be on nails.. I should get a long series out of that hopefully.

If you don't have an infection. Then I would have to say it may be genetic. Is there someone in your family who has nails like that you could compare to? I've got two toe nails that have gotten stranger over time too and I'm not sure what it means either or doesn't but I figure I'm not getting a pedi any time soon and there's no infection/fungus I'm not too worried. My oldest has one on her baby toe that grows straight up!

Nope, not an infection. My mom and dad never had wavy nails.. but my mom has similar nails as far as general shape but not the wavy part.

I am not real clear on how they are wavy shaped, so I probably am not the best one to answer this. If you do not think it is from typing I would have suggested an infection in the nail bed, probably fungal or yeast. I have heard that you can paint them twice a week or so with tea tree oil and take care of it, or soak them with original Listerine (or generic) Is it possible you have had them get injured without knowing? Do some types of auto immune disorders cause damage to the nails?

No, it's not an infection... I'm kind of thinking it might be from typing.. but not sure if anyone else does that who has longer nails. When I reach for the letters on the lower row is when the pressure is exerted on the nails, I think. I think that is why my nails get wavy.. my nails are not real thick.. but I'm wondering if anyone else has similar experiences where the nails are not uniform on every finger. It's like the nail is bent where it is wavy.

So my sister is not alone! Her nails are like that. She doesn't seem to think there is anything unusual about them, but I've always noticed that. She used to bite them so they never grew long. But now she grows them out and they are funky shaped. So it's not your age, because my sister is only 32.

My mom had toe nails that flipped up... so that was weird.. but she never had wavy nails... Someone above mentioned genetics but I didn't think so.. but now thinking about my mom's 'turtle toes' as I call them.. I wonder.
