this is an Anime Genre that became popular during the 1970's, I think A lot of anime of this genre became popular during the early 90's in my country. This type of anime are anime adaptations of classic public domain Novels with Child or teenage protagonist. I think the popularity of this Genre ended when Japan decided to focus on making Anime with Japanese Protagonist. I was like 6 years old when the first World Masterpiece Anime was dubbed in language. I remember its the only type of anime must sister and mom watched since its serious drama, not violence and fantasy, Plus they found the old european setting interesting. WM anime I watched is Cedie, it became phenomenal in my country. the Most memorable Wm's for me are the anime adaptations of Tom Sawyer,Huckleberry Finn, Romeo and the Black brothers,Little Women, Heidi, Dog of Flanders and lady georgie (Until now I wonder why Lady Georgie pass the censors cos its incestthemed) ---- most likely I think Filipinos are familiar with these heavy drama anime's. Why do you think Japan quits doing these type of anime?

Hi! I watched a lot of this anime and I loved Anne of Green Gables among them all. I also liked Little Women, Princess Sarah, Huckleberry Finn, Daddy Long Legs, Polly Anna, Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water (Ang Mahiwagang Kwintas in the Filipino-dubbed version), Peter Pan, Julio at Julia, The Secret Garden, and a lot more. I watched Georgie, too but I lost interest because of the stupid love story. But I don't think there is incest in it because Abel and his brother were not Georgie's real siblings since she was adopted.

daddy long legs is a beat freaky to me, a Man sponsored her education as a littlegirl then married her when she turned 18. so her "daddy" became a sugar daddy. The incest part in Georgieis that her brothers are romantically inlove with her before they even know she is adopted.

I don't think Judie and her Daddy Long Legs' age gap is not that wide. I did not think it's weird or freaky. It happens a lot in our society. Just look at Hyden Koh and Vicki Belo. Well, their case is Mommy Long Legs as far as I know. I don't remember much of Georgie but I always thought Abel and the brother knew even before that Georgie is not their real sister.

She met her daddy long legs as a child. he sponsored her education as a child.she is his adopted daughter, that is the freaky part. Most of the may december affairs met as adults.

Unfortunately, a lot of the World Masterpiece anime titles never really took off around here, at least I don't recall it. I had to look the information up but only three titles were ever dubbed in English for the American audience. They were "Tom Sawyer", "Swiss Family Robinson" and "Little Women" and that was back in the 80s. I didn't watch any of these as a kid but when I got into anime years later I did get around to watching "A Dog of Flanders" and "Heidi".

I get to watch Tom Sawyer,"a dog of flanders" Heidi and Little women,I didnt get to watch Swiss Family Robinson because I was morning schedule in school when it is airing. Dog of flanders have a very tragic ending, It traumatized me as a kid because most of the World Masterpiece anime have happy endings.
