Sleeping issues.

Its been 5 straight days that I didn't have enough sleep! I don't know why but, when I tried to sleep and lie down in my bed and try to sleep, my mind doesn't seem to cooperate and so does my eyes! When I am sill working (before I decide to go to sleep), I am so excited to sleep but when I'm trying to sleep, my mind can't stop thinking of random things.. Why is that happening? I'm even wondering! This is so freaking me out. For example, I lie down in bed at 9 in the evening but I fell asleep by 3 AM! That's totally not normal!

Wonders of life, isn't it? Same thing happens to me at times. The thing to consider is you are right now as a person and what you're up to or into. Usually, we like to review the things that happened in the last hours or during the day. We like the feeling of flurry when at the office, the "office" crush passed by--haha, terrible example. But honestly, we rewind it more than 5 times maybe. All those good things during the day. Depending on our emotions, maybe we had a fight with a loved one or special someone that we always put the "argue" scene in our mind before we fall asleep. There's a lot of factor actually. Try to assess your bedroom. Maybe you're affected by the lighting. For me, it's a big of an issue if I sleep with the lights on. Sometimes though, if I'm too tired during the day, I just sleep right off the bat whether the light is on or off. Are you comfortable with the room temperature? Is it noisy? Is your bed very soothing to the head, neck and back? I could go on really. But if everything in the room is a OK for you, then time to go have yourself checked. Maybe it's something serious. PS. Didn't read previous posts before me since there are so many! :)

That is so true! :) So far, I don't feel any uncomfortable in my room. But, what really bothers me is that I can't sleep if my feet doesn't feel comfortable or if it doesn't have any pillows in it.

Yes I totally understand that! One suggestion is to to get a good book and read until you feel sleepy. This usually works for me. You can also try and make sure that you don't go to bed unless you feel really sleepy. Try reading the bible before you go to sleep, it really works!

I'm reading a book before I sleep. It doesn't work! I'll try with the bible. That seems to be effective! Thanks for the suggestion.

Hello, maybe you have much work to do before you go to bed,cos the mind will keep processing that work and try to think of how to solve that problem untill it does that am sorry but you will have sleepless night.my sugestion is that maybe you should try to round up all what you are doing 3 or 2 hours before you go to bed and during that time read a book and do some little exercise this will make your body tired and surely you will sleep well.hope it help.

Actually, reading and exercising before bed will keep you up. You really should only use the bed for sleeping if you have trouble falling asleep, this includes watching t.v. (though for me, I like to have the t.v. set to "sleep" and on a low volume because the white noise sort of lulls me to bed.) So you really shouldn't read as it excites your mind, and you shouldn't exercise right before because that will actually make you LESS sleepy in the short term. You'll be pumped full of endorphins. Try to exercise earlier in the day so you can feel exhausted later. If you would like to try a natural sleeping aid, I've found that Melatonin works for me. You can find it with other vitamins and supplements at the store and I always wake feeling rested when using it. I used to take several different sleeping pills but woke groggy and like I didn't sleep any the next day. Melatonin is a cheap, safe alternative that works very well for me. I share your pain though, while I still can't fall asleep at the drop of a hat like my fiance, I've gotten a lot better. I used to have horrible insomnia like you describe: lying awake for hours not being able to shut your mind down. However, I'm much better now and I think it's because I have a lot less stress in my life. There are a lot of things you probably wouldn't even think of that can cause problems falling asleep. Don't feel alone though, it's much more common for women to have trouble falling asleep than men because we always seem to be thinking about something. What I do is not even bother trying to sleep until I know I'm tired and then I just daydream until I fall asleep. This helps me because I'm not thinking about all the crap that's going on in life, I'm just having a pleasant daydream about whatever and sort of like how you always wake up in the middle of a good dream, I always fall asleep in the middle of my good daydream. Good luck, and I hope you start sleeping better.

Stress and problems make one lose some sleep. Insomnia can be minimized through exercise and by avoiding foods that keep you awake like colas or coffee.

No coffee for me at all before going to bed. Mom won't let me though.. and yes, exercise is really essential.

Hi edsss, I've experienced that sometimes too, that is why I'm making myself tired everyday. I sleep late so that when I lay down my bed, I'd be sleeping straight. If I got to bed early, I should expect that I lie in the bed awake or with eyes close but mind's aawake.

Maybe you are suffering from insomnia. I used to have that before.I went to doctor and tell him about my sleeplessness. He thought me to read books and drink milk at night and don't ever try to make myself sleep when my eyes don't want to..That will just give us headache.. Milk didn't work so i decided to get some books. So i bought paperbacks and started reading at night..It didn't work at first. But as days go by i found myself sleeping earlier without noticing it..My books always lay at my face . Till now i do that..I don't have problems sleeping anymore..Try it.it might work for you too...

I don't drink milk at all. Its like my system doesn't accept it and oh, I'm lazy reading books but, at least I am now having the interest on reading some of them now. Well, I'll be reading it then and let's see if it works! :)

I tried milk before and it also didn't work for me... and reading books doesn't work because I end up wanting to finish the book and made me more alive and awake instead of feeling sleepy... now, lappy is helping me.. I just hope I won't have my eyes suffer so much.. I'm wearing specs so I hope it will be okay.

Hii Friend... Five days is certainly a long time... You should consult with your family doc, who knows your health history. When you go to sleep lie on your back, seek for perfect blankness, let the body relax and enjoy the comfort of the bed; then sleep will come.. I had this problem for many months... I just over came it by only keeping myself very busy. In the evening, if I don't have anything to do, I'll go out and take a walk... That gets me tired and sleepy... After dinner, I just go to sleep on my own... :-).. Hope it'll work.. Good Luck!

If only our place isn't that dangerous, I would definitely have a walk every night if its one of the reasons for me to have a good night sleep! Unfortunately not. But, will take your suggestion, my friend.

hi edsss17. I think you so stressed right now. Are you having a problem or just too tired. Hmmnn you need to see a doctor before being sleepless give you a problem like migraine. really. Try drinking much water, I have found an article that say water helps in fighting stress. Also and the best way, go to church. you will fight the medicine to your restlessness. You need peace of mind. You know life is different when you are able to go to church because it will give you peace of mind for the whole week. and then the next sunday is your day for recharging. try it faithfully.

HI edsss. I have had that problem for years. Mainly because I worked opposite of my husband to not need babysitters. Now with the combined medical problems if I do not take an Ambien at night I will set up all night waiting for sleep to come. Like you after a few days it makes you feel really lousy. The only drawback of taking Ambien for me is I have to be ready to go to bed. I have taken it and watching a movie in the livingroom and honestly do not remember getting up and going to bed. So I usually take the pill and sit up and do mylot or play a game. get sleepy turn off computer and just lay down. You might want to check with your doctor. Can't say whats right for me to take would be ok for you. Hope you get some sleep soon OH and my rhuematologist told me to get one of those eye covers so you will think its dark out too. Ihave dark curtains in my room so that helps me. Good Luck! Trust me I know what it is to be lack of sleep. MISERABLE!!!

I told my mom that maybe I should take sleeping pills for me to be able to go to sleep peacefully but, she refused because I might not be able to wake up anymore. Thank you.. I'll be taking some research about Ambien! :)

Maybe you lack exercise. Exercise helps us fell asleep easier. But don't exercise right before sleeping. Try doing it in the afternoon. When you are already on your bed, stop thinking of your problems, may it be financial or love life. Stress will not help you get asleep. It will only keep you awake. Exercises counters stress

Have you tried drinking milk before going to bed? I guess that deep in your heart and mind, you have so much worries. I just don't have much to suggest for this because I also experienced this. But if ever I lack sleep in a night or more, the next night to the last night of being sleepless I can sleep well.

But when I am sleepless last night, I still can't sleep the next night. Milk doesn't work for me at all! I dunno what will lead me to a peaceful sleep.

Hai friend... I can't understand that what your problem is...That's totally different...You can consult a doctor..It may be because of your body's problem...I like to hear songs before sleeping..Some days I will not feel of sleep and I will hear songs for a long time...That will automatically lead me to sleep..You can try that...Thank you

Actually, I don't feel any kind of weakness by morning. I still have much energy to do my chores. Is it good? Actually, I don't feel anything bad in my body but, its my mom who's so worried about me not having enough sleep.

I had the same problem before. My mentor told me to drink warm milk before sleep. I tried it and it's effective. The scientific explanation of this is the warm fluid relaxes your body making you sleepy and giving a good sleep.

Might be any stress you've been having lately?? Actually I am in the same boat too and it's been a few months now. I can't go to sleep when I want to and it makes me mad. There are just so many things floating around my mind that I can't seem to rest at all. Like yesterday, I went to bed at 11 but finally slept at around 4 jeez!! I had talked to a friend about this and she told me I should meditate to take things off my mind. The problem is I don't know how to meditate. You might try meditating as well??
