If you were blessed with a good singing voice would you join a competition?

My favorite TV shows are American Idol and just recently X-Factor. I also watch America's Got Talent. I am really amazed at the number of people doing their best to be able to join these singing competitions. While America's Got Talent also includes the other kinds of talents aside from singing, most of the contestants prefer to show off their talents in singing. While we have witnessed the many aspirants who have reached fame and fortune in these competitions, will you be willing to expose yourself to the world in these manner where judges sometimes become insulting?

No I don't believe in those shows, musical talent is a matter of opinion and should not be judged by three people so to speak, its an art and with art beauty is in the eye of the beholder, in this case beauty in the ear of the beholder, everyone has different taste in music, better ways to show your talent.

I couldn't agree more! you don't need to join such competitions just to prove that you have what it takes, and besides there are lots of different ways to get noticed in the mainstream... you can play in bands, you can promote your music through social media such as youtube to get yourself more noticed. :D

i think i wouldn't be good in front of an audience. it is about showmanship as well as being able to sing. it is the whole package. i don't think i would be good up there in front of all those people.

With a good voice, I would like to join a singing competition because it would be an easier way to become a celebrity and make a lot of fortune. I often watch singing competitions of different kinds on TV. It is interesting and I love to watch it.

How I wished I am blessed with enough confidence, I know that I have a good singing voice. I am a choir member eversince elementary days, but that was in groups. Singing solo will definitely bring butterflies on my stomach. But if I have enough confidence to stand and face the crowd I will surely join a singing competition. Even if the judges sometimes sound insulting it doesn't matter because in the end I will be the one who will benefit from all the criticism they gave me.

Maybe not for competition, but leisure singing session or occasion gigs that comes along the way. I enjoyed singing (although I ain't a good singer) but there are too many things in a competition (such as being able to dance? play an instrument? able to compose a song etc based those competitions that I have watched from tv). You might or might not achieve the fame and fortune but the criticism will cause stress while the passion to sing might subside.

Hello Yahnee, I am an Indian and we too have lot of singing reality shows but i never thought of going there despite having good voice because i know to go there would be a long battle in INDIA specially. Yes these reality shows are good platform for people who really got talent. In INDIA too many of those who came in these reality shows got famous.

Nope, I never have intention or dream to be an actor/singer. That's not my passion Even if I want to, I'll never join such competitions. They'll just exploiting me too much. Better to build career from the scratch..

I love watching these shows too, I'm from Australia! X factor just finished and now this 16 year old boy is all over the charts and the radio. But personally, if I was given the gift of a very good singing voice, I wouldn't expose myself to the whole country, even the whole world! Now that we have the internet. What if you make a mistake? What if you completely humiliate yourself? Once it's on TV and the internet, you can't get it down. Also, the judges tend to be pretty biased and their comments can really hurt. It's pretty all for show, money and for entertainment. Most people just watch it just to see if anyone humiliates themselves or has an attitude towards the judges just for laughs really. For Australia's got talent, I love the auditions because some people just embarrass themselves and I just laugh. Even the judges and the whole crowd are laughing. Also, what are the chances of you winning? Did you really do this for yourself for the art of singing? Or did you do it for popularity? So for me, I wouldn't go up on such a show.

I know I am blessed with a good singing voice and I really love music. Infact, I sing everyday. But because I am too shy, then I never had a chance to join a solo competition. I have joined only choral competitions because I know that I will never be alone on stage and that it is fun to sing with a group then do solo. ^_^

If I'm gifted with a good singing voice, I will not join competition and America's got talent etc. I would reserve my voice for my love alone. Sing her all the best of love songs that ever surfaced in the market.

I would, but that is just me. I mean if you have a good singing voice why not go and try and get yourself recognized. Yes you would have to be willing to take the criticism from the judges but it only makes you a better singer.
