Good news for Irfan Pathan. He is back into the Indian side. But everyone expected him to be on the Australian Tour, but he has selctedfor the ODi Vs West Indes. This place in Indian team is a result of his great form in Ranji. Will he make a good Comeback if selected??Can he be perform well?? Well I will love to see him.Because he is the only person in the current frame of players that India wants for a long time afetr Kapil Dev, a fast bowling all-rounder which other teams have but India don't...he is person who can swing the ball effectively and can be handy with the bat.. I sincerely hope so for his sake and also for India's prospects. Irfan Pathan at his best was remembered for his long run up, bowling at 140 kph and swinging the ball late into the right handers trapping them lbw ( The hatrick against Pakistan is ample proof ). The last time we saw him he was bowling more of the offspinerrs than seam up. If Irfan needs to make a mark he really need to get his swing back with a little bit more nip of the pictch and stop overdoing the slower deliveries as it makes him predictable. As for his batting he is quite handy and that never has been the issue and so I am sure he will still be ok with the bat. Another prob at least we Indians have is that we idolise and compare a player too quickly to legends. One good performance, one good series we start calling him the next big thing unnecesary heaping more pressur.Irfan however well he does can never become a Kapil Dev. But lets just hope that he comes back with the form that he showed as 19 year old boy that in Aus 2003. Fingers crossed :)

I am not saying that he is next Kapil Dev..he is one such person who the abilities of a fast bowling all rounder. You see in each team, they have one such person.Kalis,Watson,Flintof,Razzaq,Mathews all these are good seam bowlers and they can also contribute with bat.But india lack this kind of player. The last of player which we haveseen of this kind was kapil, so only i said.We have many all rounders like Yuvraj,Raina, jadeja but they are fast bowlers.

Deepak Cool that is a very valid point. Wd really lack a fast bowling allrounder and Irfan Pathan can be our solution ( if he can bowl fast again ;) .. What really amazes me is that in such a big country liek ours with such great cricketing talent we cannot produce a genuine allrounder of the calibre of Kallis or Watson. As you said all our allrounders now are part time spinners who can do the task in turneres but we need a player who can single handedly win the match with the bat or the ball like how Kapil could.

Performing at state level in Ranji trophy and performing at international level are two ball games. Although he performed creditably well in Ranji matches and I.P.L. matches, he has to prove himself at international levels in O.D.I.s and tests. He started with a bang in both tests and O.D.I.s due to his accurate bowling with lot of swing which deceived many a great batsmen in the world. He never had fiery pace for which batsmen would be afraid of him and claim the wickets through shear pace. When he lost his accuracy and swing he became ineffective to the extent that he went out of favor with the selectors. Now that he is back into reckoning let us see how well he performs. One good thing in credit of Irfan is that he has improved tremendously as a batsman ant that could help him get his place in Indian side on regular basis.

yes i am agree with you he has not fast speed from which batsman feel afraid of but he has a good swing bowler yet not have good pace and yes he is also capable with that i think selectors make a great choice to select irfan pathan for australian tour.

Ya you are absolutely right that state level performance and international performance are different. But the international stage is not new to him,so i think he will not be nervous and he is already in great positive mindset

Yes, Pathan gets one more chance to prove his stuff. If he can prove it then he can get back into the Indian team. I would really look to him to take on the role of Zaheer once he retires. I think he definitely has the potential for that, only he needs to start doing it regularly at the international level. Cheers! Ram

I was really worried that Irfan was not picked yesterday....this is theproblem with India...if they pick a player into squad they will make him wait...if any player isinjured he isluck enough toplay otherwise he has to wait forhis chanceand sometimes they will dropthe player without making him play...irfan is sucha good form and you don't make himplay and when his momentum reduces andifhe plays at that time and he do not perform thats it..he is dropped...whycan't the BCCI think about this...thisis always the biggest mistake they do..

If he finds his swings, he used to deliver in his initial part of career than he is going to survive in Indian Cricket team, otherwise he will always be in and out of the team. But, yes it's good to see him back in the team.

The good thing about himis that he bats agressively and he can bat at any position if any situation arises such as in a huge chase...
