[please no trolling and non-sense point collecting, this topic means a lot to me] IF YOU ARE FILIPINO and you want a Filipino actor get a Lead role in a high budget Hollywood film this discussion is a must read. One of my biggest dreams is to be a director,1 of my dream projects is to make a movie adaptation of the science fiction novel Starship troopers. In fact 2 years ago I make a discussion about it. On that discussion I did say I want to make a great adaptation that will follow the book. It did became a movie in the 90's but the movie adaptation is a low budget mess and it ruins the novel. The casting is also racist because the main character of the Novel is Filipino, His name is Juan Rico, He is from rich family from Manila, His favorite dish is adobo and he mentioned former president Ramon Magsaysay. He joined an international army to protect the world against aliens. In the movie adaptation he is turned into a white Argentine guy. My dream to produce a loyal adaptation of the novel, wont happen anymore because a Warner brothers said they will make a reboot film that promises to be loyal to the novel. this makes me nervous, whenever Hollywood adopts a story with an Asian Male protagonist even if its true story, they will make a white guy play it. Unless Filipinos will try to make a movie. I wanted a Filipino actor to play Juan Rico. It doesnt matter if he is Pure Filipino, Half Filipino, Born in the Philippines or a Filipino American. As long as he have Filipino blood. I want to start a campaign online but I dont know where to begin. I want to start a petition but I'm not sure where to begin. The Marvel Japanese American superheroine Nico Minoru is almost given to a Caucasian actress in the future movie adaptation of her series but due to petitions, an Asian actress will be playing her. Fans failed to save Son Goku from Hollywood White wash but fans were able to save Nico Minoru from Hollywood White wash Juan Rico had been Whitewashed before Please dont let it happen again. -- He might be only a fictional character but He can open doors for Filipino American and even the Asian American community. Hollywood have a bad treatment of Asian men, this could be the time to make a change.

You could try posting it on social sites like Facebook and Twitter, making some sort of moving/funny video or cartoon to explain your petition and of course, enlisting all your friends' help to spread the message. You could also start a chain mail of sorts. Emailing to everyone you know and asking them to sign and pass it on and to CC you a copy everytime they sign so that you get to keep count of how many people have signed it and can combine the list.

My main focus is to get Filipinos to talk about it the most, since the character I wanted to saved from being whitewash (white wash is a tradition of Hollywood to discriminate Asian actors from playing roles that are supposed to be Asian, remember the Caucasian Son Goku?) Juan Rico is the only Filipino Science fiction protagonist, now that the novel where he is from will be a movie again, I want to save him from being whitewashed this time. If a Filipino guy will finally play him in movies, it will be good not only for the Filipinos but for the Asian American community. I'm open to see Malaysian or Indonesian actors to play him too, if you read History, Filipinos are originally from Malaysia and Indonesia. The South east Asians are badly represented in Hollywood.

Yeah the Dragonball movie was a failure in all aspects if you ask me. The characters weren't properly represented at all. I think if you include all races of people in your petition, not just Filipinos or South East Asians, it would make your petition even more powerful. Good luck!

but my petition is that to make an Asian actor to play an Asian character, cos Hollywood has been rude to Asian actors,if there is a role that is meant for them (which is rare) It is given to a white guy. I dont know if other races will support it, Hollywood only cares for White,Black and latinos. Hollywood only have 3 roles for asian actors, Nerd,Businessman, martial artist. Hollywood has been notorious to make lead Asian characters to be given for White actors. The other races already have major roles in Hollywood but Asian men dont. The only only Asians Hollywood gives chance to are the women. The lack of Asian role models for Asian American boys makes majority of Asian American men insecure.
