Ways I've used to help my back. What ways have you tried to take care of yours?

I've had all of these: hot showers, cold packs, hot water bottle to sleep on, tylenol PM, sleeping in a sleeping bag, massage and the other day, my friend tried craniosacral therapy on me. Someone else I know is going to someone for orthogonal or orthoganality therapy. These last ones are news to me. I was at someone's house and they said tat tennis balls work well. But I didn't get a chance to ask how to use them. So now it's your turn. Which of the above have you used, tried, or knowledge of? Which other ones not listed here have you tried? Can you explain how to use the tennis balls? Answer any one or more of these questions and I'll be happy. Which ones worked the best for you and why? Or the worst and why? Thanks and take care.

I am not sure if this will work for your back but I have been taking some supplements called Vitamin B1,B6, B12. This was prescribed by the company doctor when I complained about back pains and shoulder pains. I am not into taking all those over the counter pain killers since it causes an acid influx.

B vits usually help with nerves, esp. damaged ones. I'm not into long term use of ay meds including over the counter pain killers. Thanks and take care.

We have lots of rolling pins. My husband makes them. Just never thought of myself as dough. Interesting idea

Well, if you have a knot in a muscle, what better way to remove it than by "rolling" it out..lol

I've had a bad back since my teens when a horse I was breaking to ride stomped on my back! I do all kinds of things when it bothers me. I do gentle stretching exercizes to try and keep it limber. When it really nags me, I use a product called Theragesic. Lots of our local sports coaches have the kids use that. It's kind of like one of those icy hot type products, but this stuff is the only stuff that actually gives me relief and doesn't bother my skin. I also use it on my arthritic hand and knees.(I like that after you apply it, once you let it soak in a while, you can wash the skin off and you don't have that 'I've got Ben Gay on' smell lol.) I also sleep with a pillow under my knees to take the strain off my back. When at the computer, my feet are on a footstool to keep the knees up some and stress off the back. Sometimes when my back gets really out of whack, my one Dr's suggestion I find really helps a lot. He told me to lay on my back, and draw my left knee up to my right shoulder and press down (of course I can't do that alone, so my daughter helps, and it never goes that far...I'm not that pliable anymore haha.) Then I repeat with the other leg. He is absolutely right though, the gentle overstretch of the muscles eases the back pains. I have done the tennis ball bit. With that, I place the ball just to the side of the spine where it hurts, and lay on it for a little while. It does help sometimes, kind of like when somebody gives you a deep massage over a muscle knot; there again, it is hyper-stretching the muscle a little. Good luck! Having a bad back isn't any fun at all!

I just have one spot that likes to stick. Middle of the thorasic region. We use biofreeze up here. It's along the BEN GAY type of things, but it doesn't stick like it. There is an 8 hour patch that's like icy hot up here, too. Of the capcasin line (hot pepper topicals) and menthol (not sure which this is). We have tiger balm. 3 different strengths. Horse accidents are tough. Thanks and take care.

When i was about seven months pregnant with my daughter my back would hurt me something terrible. I was hot in the house and so I started sleeping outside on the ground. I slept on the ground every night for about two months and never felt better. I really didn't think it would help but it did.

At one point, I slept on ceramic tile floor in the bathroom. I think it made my back stronger. Then I was in a car accident and couldn't even get to the floor.

Maybe you could tie yourself to the roof. Santa could bring you down the chimney when he comes. Atleast you'd get some rest. hehe
