Is it true that people who own cats are not as friendly as those who own dogs?

I've noticed that people who own cats don't seem to be as friendly as those who own dogs, I have found this with quite a few people - at least, the people who own cats don't seem to give way to you as easily as those with dogs. Just like the animals themselves, cats always have their own way and would not go out of their way to please you and are very independent, so it takes time more time to build up a relationship with them. With dogs, they are readily friendly on approach. Is this really the case?

hi bellapop. I guess it just a coinciedence but not all cat lovers are "selfish" or hard to be with. I have a friend who owns a cat but she's opposite to what you have observed. It just depend on the person's personality. Not exactly on their pets. My friend of mind is so thoughtful and unselfish. She is a friendly type of person. There are also some people i knew who are dog lovers but difficult to get along with.

Oh no, I don't mean that cat owners are selfish or nasty in anyway, just suggesting that perhaps 'less' friendlier than those who own dogs and whether this is really the case...(am offending a lot of people with this?!)

your not offending a lot of people with this. Your just expressing what you've observed. We have different perceptions and observations so its okay.

I adore cats. If I have a guardian spirit it would be the cat and I'm a very nice person In every group and every type of person there is good and bad on both sides ie kind rich person, evil poor person, kind cat owner, evil dog owner and so on.

I am a dog lover and owned 5 terriers in addition to 3 pups. I can't judge the person I am but I am friendly by nature and anybody having their first chat with me will feel very much at home in my company. I am not quite in favor of cats as my dogs are anti-cats and I have to respect them by not having any cats in my home.

not true.i help people all the time, donate to charity-and i've always had cats. i can't say all dog people are rude either, but the owners in my neighborhood are. nobody talks to anybody, and they let their dogs bark all night.that's pretty uncaring of what others think.

I don't think you can profile someones personality based on what type of pet they own. Perhaps the olderly could be portrayed that way when they are labeled say something like the "cat lady" because that's their world and they become introverted in time as many elderly do as their families grow and do not visit. Though I had a neighbor whom did not talk to us much until we had a dog, then it was all talk about the dogs. Sadly, I don't care for our dog... I much prefer cats.

I really have known every distance. Actually I doubt that people who don't own a pet are any less friendly than people are really going to have a pet. There are there are going to be a lot of qualities and just because people own a certain type of pet, does not really mean much of anything when you really think about it. There are just going to be times where it depends on the owner. There are people who happen to own a cat or a dog or both, and they can be a bit spiteful. Or they could be rather friendly. There is really no scientific way to really tell things although there are certain traits that are going to pop up fairly often. However, no one really can tell for sure what pet owners might do or do not do, and most certainly not all dog owners are all that friendly and all cat owners are not more standoffish.

No. I have known quite a few very mean and rude dog owners and I have known many very nice and caring cat owners. There are some trends among the owners of the different pets though. Cat owners are more likely to be more educated and dog owners are more likely to be more physically fit. When you think of it, it makes a bit of sense. Dogs require more attention and have to be played with and walked, while cats are more quiet and can take care of themselves better. Of course, this is no rule. I don't have the same problem as you do with cats. Cats are usually readily friendly with me. Cats are generally more easily startled, so if you tend to move suddenly or have the tendency to be loud, then yes, you are going to have a harder time with cats.

I've never noticed this. I know people that own dogs and cats and to me, they're no less friendly if they own a cat. Some people just have different preferences in animals but I don't think it makes a difference in their personality.

hi! I think it does not apply to everybody who owns a cat. Although cats are really the shy type and dogs are friendlier, still it depends upon the person's character.

I don't think there is direct relation between pets and owner. Maybe just a little as the characteristic of cat is arrogant, as I can recall, most movies associate certain cat with rich people. Those rich people is not considerate and know the least of manner to give way. So I guess there may be just a little factor that shape cat owner's behavior. The more a person lives with cat, the more that person may adapt to cat's behavior.
