For beginners , movie maker is the best option. after becoming comfortable in that you can move up to various other advanced softwares

I use Adobe Premiere which is very powerful and has a steep learning curve. There is a cut down version that is cheaper called Premiere Elements. Some editing programs are included 'free' when buying a video camera though they are not exactly free but rather included in the price of the camera.

Try Ulead Video Editing Studio 11. It is a great video editing software, I've been using it for years. It's very easy to learn and it contains a lot of features that you can't find in Movie Maker. There is a free version available for 30 days. Do try it out. :)

you can try pinnacle video studio pro or corel video studio x4 . it is easy to use and easy to understand for beginners. if you want a more advanced editors, try adobe software. adobe premiere is one (use for video editing), and adobe after effects which is use for special effects on your video. if you want to come up with a good video, i suggest you to not only use one software. try to use multiple video editors to edit parts of your movie then combine it on the survey you mostly use.

Ulead Video Studio is the one I use and I like it a lot. Windows Movie Maker is also very good.
