We are forced

One day, my husband and I went to a fashion store to buy some clothes for the new year. Seeing us come in, the shop assistant was cold and say nothing. I felt uncomfortble at this. I caught a glimpse of a pattern of a coat which is suitble for my husband. To my surprise, when I looked closely at the coat, I found its brand had been cut out. I asked why. The shop assistant answered coldly, "Dont ask the reason, if you want to buy, just do it." My husband was also annoyed and whispered to me," the shop assistant maybe thought we cannot afford to buy it." Hearing this I decided to take it. Also to my surprise, the shop assistant made a 180-turn and appologized to us,"Sorry, we are forced to do that. Nowadays, many people just look for the clothes suitble to them in our shop, and purchase them online."

Market is very down these days, people have shifted heavily towards online shopping.. Sales people who are working for long, get tired and annoyed because people walk in and look at alot of clothes, remove them from racks and make a mess and then do not purchase even one shirt. Ask for different sizes, different colors, and they dont have any interest in buying.. I use to work in Wools Worth as senior Sales assistant, when the economy went down, i started noticing that so many of the couples of even families would walk in the store, just to have a look and try on things but purchase nothing. It really got to my head, I could not stand it anymore so I quit my job. Dont feel bad,the sales people have their moods and days. I know they should be up to their best mark as they are working, but its difficult to display fake emotions all the time and put up a smile :) I hope ur not faced with such situation again! Cheers!

Freepony rides that is what I have been trying to convey.. That sales people are human, humans have different emotions have different set of time. Even if your working in an office, you can never be jolly and happy and give a smile all the time, sometimes you are off mood and that is normal. Yes, being rude is not good at all, but may be there is a reason behind it. We just should not judge over all, they are not robots! Some of them have to work in weekends, and on holidays when everyone else is with their families, so at times they do get frustrated but they have to earn money. Anyways, all I wanted to say that what Jkct02 said, that sales people are humans not robots!

I was in retail trade for over 2 decades. That is certainly not the way to do business, let alone having returning customers. While we have to be understanding with some workers who have been on duty for long hours, sometimes their performance may not be as good, but still, going to the extend of verbally abusing a customer is, to me, an on the spot sack-able offense. You should not have taken the coat just because of some rude words. Why let them earn when they don't even treasure a walk-in customer? Make a complain about the rude worker to the shop owner is to help their business. Such shops with ill-trained staff has no place in a very competitive market. I am fascinated by the shop assistant's statement of "see in shop, buy online". Did you try to look online about the coat you bought?

So that's the reason why the sales assistant was like that. Even if it is so, she has no right to be as rude as that, much more talk that way. Every customer deserves respect once they go inside your store. Well, i am one of those who prefers to buy on shops when it comes to shoes, bags and clothes than online, because you can truly see and feel the materials that were used.

That is just bad customer service and strategy made by the assistant as well as the management. If they will just do that to potential customers, they might as well close the business and shift to another one that is more lucrative. Their reason is unacceptable but I do feel bad for the assistant. Better resign from this store and look for a better job that will not force them any negativity towards themselves and to others.

It is true that the market goes down due to this online shopping trend but it is not enough reason to treat customers like that. Nevvertheless, it is still on the customer's hand on whether they will earn or not;

Even thou they apoligized I still don't think I'd go back there and shop.. I mean who treats there customers so poorly no matter how much they make or not. They should still treat each customer with full respect. I quess maybe there just having a bad day. Still that's terrible.

Did you consider talking to the supervisor about how the clerk behaved? It is not her business if people prefer shopping in stores or online. Her behavior was not very pleasant AT ALL!

I know that the markets are down and the sales people get annoyed every now and then with no sales and pressure from the management but that should not be an excuse for receiving the visitors in such a cold way. What if people take their behavior in a negative way and leave the shop even before entering it? That would be a more negative and people would spread the news that the sales ppl are not professional in that shop. That would mean a bad publicity which is very danger. So whatever may be the market trend and however annoying may be your customer the sales person should never leave his professionalism even if he is forced to act in such a way

Good thing they apologized. It is not good they treat customers that way. They are not the reason the bad thing happened to their clothes. They are their potential buyers so they shouldn't acted that way.

Yes some did.I think too much people buy on the shops,and also i do not know how much online people use to buy.through internet. Why force you to do it,and it is only on your choice.
