News are important as it keep us updated on whats happening around us but the negative side of it is that it gives us stress too. It somehow affects us especially if its all about killings, abuse, wars, calamities and many more. Lately its terrifying to see that many had died on recently typhoon. I think most of you had heard that in Mindanao Philippines many died, hurt and lost lives. Until now it didn't recover yet as still it rains everyday. I can't help but to pity and can't help but to blame those people who are engaged in logging ( cutting trees) one of the reason why it floods that much. And recently another area is in news again because of landslide in the mountain wherein many people died and still retrieving bodies. Sometimes it gives me chills on spine to see many dead bodies. Life is too short that makes me realize a lot. How about you, what are your thoughts about all this happening in the world? its really terrifying to think that the world might end soon.

It is so true. I have often felt helpless and frustrated watching the news, knowing that there is nothing much i can do for those who are in pain. But all in news is pretty important in being informative about all the happenings.

that is so true, its very important in being informative and for us to be not left behind also. We need to be keep updated but we just need to somehow avoid to get affected and avoid stress also. Perhaps we just need to learn to handle things we see and heard and not be affected by it. happy new year!

When I was eighteen years old I worked as a children's nanny in Finland. They had very ordinary and not very bad news stories. News would be an important person from overseas visiting the president in Helsinki. In all the years since then I only saw one news report from Finland which was shocking and upsetting. It was about a mad man doing a shooting in a school. I live in England and the news over here is horrible. There are regularly stories about killing, abuse, financial difficulties and nasty things happening in other countries. Watching the news on television can be heart braking, miserable, upsetting and give a negative feeling. I hate it when a disaster happens and innocent people lose their lives. Natural disasters like typhoons are awful. Wars are even worse because people began it and not nature.

Perhaps Finland is one of the place that has low crime. Where are you in England? My husband is living there in yorkshire and when i heard or read horrible news there i always worried. I know it happens everywhere even here we have the same horrible news. The only thing makes me calm when i hear or know he is ok. Also i always pray for guidance, that helps a lot.

You are part right here cheenlly. News can be a source of stress if you don't put it in its place. Many self-help authors tell you to not watch news at all, because of the negativity it can place in you. News stations go for ratings, and unfortunately negative stories are the most watched. We can't really blame the news for believing the creedo "If it bleeds, it leads." Because it is the public's viewing habits that they are following. However, where we differ in opinion is the world ending. I am not a bit more stressed about the world ending than my computer is. Why do you ask? Simply because I can do nothing to change it. Even though many are going off the Mayan calendar ending with the year 2012; I feel that no one on Earth can predict the end of the world, nor can they prevent it. If the end of the world is something that is definite and unaffected by man, what use is it to worry about? You make more of you time living life to the fullest, and not even considering it because, if this is the last year that Earth will exist, I would rather spend it having fun and accomplishing as many goals as I can, than worried sick about it for the whole time.
