The default action for Windows (and most other file management systems) when dragging and dropping (with the left mouse button) is to: - Move files when the target and destination are on the same drive - Copy files when the target and destination are on different drives If the application supports dragging and dropping with the RIGHT button (as most will), then this will open a menu when you drop the file(s) which will allow you to select Copy or Move.

It might depend on your FTP software, but I can't copy to a different folder without downloading first using CoffeeCup FTP software. I can't think of any instance where I'd want to have two copies of a file online, but that's no reason you might not want to.
