Self employed or employed?

Some said don't like being employed but I see so many people are there more than self-employed. They are working happily with satisfaction too. What do you think of the benefits of self employed and employed, please share your thoughts? If you choose between both, what would you choose?

Hi Choi Yee, indeed working in both category have their own advantages. So far, i haven't gone through self employed. I only being employed for nearly 20 years before i decided to stay at home due to my health problem. But, i planned to be self employed in future, when i have the ideas to earn from my chosen field. I think at this moment, i will still need to collect more fund, to be able to fulfill my dream.

Temporary, i didn't do any outdoor work yet. Because my migraine problem can gone serious if i don't have proper rest. Besides that, i can't stand too long under stress and even hot weather as well. It is good to hear that your fybroid problem had managed to settle with medication. I hope my health problem will settle as well. Happy Chinese new year to you and family...

Well I currently work outside and online. But If I had to choose I would choose to work online. I think when you work online you have more flexibility and your your own boss that what attracts me to working online. Plus I would save a lot of money on transportation. I currently pay $104 dollars per month just on transportation. When you work for someone you have to deal with their BS not just the acstual job. Online I'm left at peace to do my work thats what I like.

What is BS? I guess its business right? I hate it also when work has to do with someone else's business. I only like working for myself, that's where I found peaceful and happiness.

BS is more like American slang. I hope I can type the word here (bull s h i t).

I'm sorry sometime i just get caught up in talking the american lango. :-) BS means dealing with things unrelated to work. Like the boss getting upset that you didnt laugh at his bad jokes. Or the boss bothering you because his bored thats what i mean. I do find working for yourself more peaceful because theirs less pressure and you work at the pace which you feel more comfortable.

I am currently being employed, but in the future being self-employed is what I aim for. Being self-employed allows me to increase my earnings, to make decisions on my business without having to go through management, and there's no risk of getting fired or unemployed. However, the advantages of being employed is that you get the same salary regardless of how the business is going (ie. even if the business is losing money, you're still earning the same). As I can think of more pros of being self-employed than being employed, that's what I would choose if given that chance.

I am employed by someone else and I love the stability of payment as I have a set salary and know monthly what I can expect. The problem is your job security depends on someone else. One thing I wish I had more control over was time off, I love to travel and would love to be able to spend more time around the world etc.

That it is the problem that you can't have time off for travelling, if I was self employed then I can choose when to travel and work.

If I have to choose, I'd rather be self employed. You are your own boss if you are as self employed person, you can even choose when to work and when not to work. No pressures. I've been thinking of leaving my work and focus on my business actually. But it's not that easy to make an abrupt decision. Maybe when my husband started working again I might and will probably resign and be self employed instead.

i would say i am both. and if i have to choose one then it will be better to become self employed. as the word self is attached to the employment then its showing that how much work is related to us. and if some thing is related to us we become more relaxed and passionate in doing the work. self employment is free from all those burden which is being put over our shoulder by our bosses. these bosses sometimes wants to become dominate. and for some instance they completely dominates this make our lives miserable. thats i would rather prefer to choose self emloyed over employed.

Personally from someone here who is employed, both as in Self Employed, as I have my own online/offline business that is even registered here in WA State, and also work for someone else, there is definately some advantages and disadvantages to both. Eventually my dream is to just be in Business for myself and somehow trying to get there but knowing it takes work. When you work for others you have a guaranteed wage, and usually Medical insurance coverage, a 401K, paid time off for vacations, sick leave, etc. But you also are under someone's else's control. When you work for yourself you can set your own hrs. choose what items you want to sell and when, but then you have no medical etc, unless you find somewhere you can afford to have Medical thru, you have to budget accordingly and plan for the slow times, but at times make more than you can for someone else if the product market is right. So in reality, which is Best. Well for me the dream has been to be in Business for myself, but for others it could be too much work, so in reality I think it is what ever works best for the person involved.

I am employed. Of course, there are few who cannot work in someone else's employ. But as a white collar worker, I prefer being employed rather than self employment. Cheers! Ram

I am self employed. I was being employed a couple of times before. Having a superior meaning listening to orders, being nagged and need to please them. It was annoying. Though the pros are you'll learnt something and increase your network. Now as a self employed, I have more freedom and have to be more responsible for my own work. True enough, we self employed can work at our pace. However, if you're lazy then you'll earn nothing as there's no more monthly income like being employed.

it's good if you have both. Being employed and self employed. How'd you say that?

At first, self-employed sounds nice and wonderful fantasy for me. In the terms of me getting the ability to manage my own time, earnings, etc. But lately, I've seen that to be able to reach that state (able to manage my own time bla bla bla), it would take a lot of efforts and sacrifice from ourselves, including our own time and earning at the current state. With me carrying the family on my shoulder, i just can't risk that for now. So, i chose employed for now. Since with this condition, i still be able to manage my own time and earning, in the terms adjusting with the company rules, of course.

i think that being self employed is the most wonderful thing of life.because if you are self employed then there is no boss upon you.when you want to work ,you works.what you want to work, you works.how you want to work ,you works. that means every thing is in your control.nobody are there in self employment who give you orders.it is just you only.if i want to choose between self employed and employed then defiantly ,with 0% of doubt ,i always choose self employed.because in self employed there is no limit to grow.

well, for me I prefer to be self-employed. self-employed people can decide on their own. They can manage their time on their own. They don't have boss that they need to follow. I have more time to their family especially to their children.
