Wow! It was an experience worth remembering and a learning I think im going to get addicted to. I started eating the pinoy with no balut but when I have tried the balut ( only 16 days old) I realized the balut is much yummy than the pinoy, coz the balut has this somewhat water substance that is good when its hot. The first lesson is to open a small part on the large part of the egg, slowly open it enough where you can place a little bit of salt and hot vinegar, then sip it (its really good) try this procedure and slowly open or expose some parts of the egg, then eat the yellow part, for a newbie like me I started out removing the dark part of the egg, hehehehe, until now I still dont have the courage to eat that part since Im still learning to appreciate that but soon, I'll have the courage to do it.'Eat everything with salt and the hot vinegar coz it goes well together and its good to finish it with ice cold coca-cola to complete the meal.

Good for you. This is one Filipino delicacy that I am not particularly fond of. I don't like the dark part which is the chicken. I can eat the yellow part though but certainly not the chicken. However, the balut is very nutritious especially if you happen to have a very low blood count.

You have never tried balut and penoy before???? Why??? I love them! I even eat the sisiw in balut although before I don't eat it. I just learned to eat it when I grew older. I love penoy more than balut before but now it's the other way around because I can eat so much more in balut than in penoy where you can only eat the yolk part.

hi Zelmarq! oh my, i love balut. i am glad that you were able to get a taste and learn to love it. it has been one of my favorite delicacies. i eat it only with salt. have been eating it for a very long time now. it can also be considered a health food as it is loaded with muscle-building and brain-forming protein. take care and blessings to you! lovelots..faith210

The "juice"of the balut is what makes it taste great :) Without it, it's like eating a boiled chicken egg. When I started eating balut, I only ate the yellow portion. So I usually ask the balut vendor to choose an egg that has yet a small "sisiw" part. Now I'm able to eat the whole egg but I still avoid looking at it especially if I got a rather old balut (more than 18 days old) in which the feathers of the duckling are very apparent already.

You just learned to eat balot? And the other one's name is Penoy from what I know. I love it with salt and vinegar too, actually while typing this my mouth is watering and I am craving for balut. I love the white hard part and the yellow soft part and of course the water inside it, but I do not look at the fetus inside it since it is gross. Sometimes I like to eat it, sometimes when I see that the fetus inside it looks like a young bird already i do not eat it nor taste the water inside the egg. I feel like vomiting. I let my sister remove the white hard part and the yellow one and she give it to me. Penoy, on the other hand do not have like that, but it has yellow and white hard part too so I like eating it and I do not say no of eating it if someone offer me. It benefits me to eat one balut or penoy because it strengthens my bone. I will never have the courage to eat the dark part of the egg.

I don't think I can eat the balut. I was in the Philippines last month when our tour guide introduced us to balut. I can only look at him enjoying the balut and when he offered me the balut I graciously declined as I was told that the egg has been incubated which I just can't bring myself to eat.

Good for you, balut/balot is really good and I miss eating this one. I also don't eat the dark part only the yellow one but still taste good. It gives me more energy when eating this. I also miss penoy. Eating too much of this can cause hypertension so just eat one or two in a day.

Youngster now a days were ignorant in balut, my 26 yr. old officemate haven't eatem balut, maybe because they have above average living that they're mother don't care to buy pinoy foods for their children. When I was young my father always bought us balut, they say it is nutritious. So we eat it, I like the yellow part and the white stone but not the baby chick, at one occasion my father forced me to eat the baby chick, I just close my eyes and hold my breath for a while. Now I cannot enjoy balut, penoy, abnoy or bibingka cause I have problems with my tummy. I'm so sad that I cannot eat one of my favorite food anymore.

I eat Balot once in a while. Sometimes I can eat the unborn chick in it but many times I cant *LOL. I'm more on Penoy. There's 2 kind of Penoy, the supsupin and the hard boiled Penoy. I'm more on "supsupin" means you can sip. It's watery unlike the hard boiled one. There's one more cousin of Balot/Balut and Penoy, it's the Abnoy. It's kinda rotten duck egg that they made out to be a "bibingka" (as rice cake in the Philippines)... I just don't know how were my fellow come out to eat this Abnoy *sigh! It smells really yuck but I knew some who eat this kind. My father was from Pateros, Taguig which is known to be a place of Balut, Penoy and Abnoy. All from ducks...

That's great! I love to eat balut especially if it is the 16 days! When I was young my mother used this as a pasalubong for me! It is so delicious if there will be a spicy vinegar! But as of these days, I haven't eaten a balut anymore :(((

I eat balut but only the red part. Yes I love it with salt and vinegar too. But, no I can't eat that small chick with all the tiny feathers. It's yuck!!! No matter what kind of method of eating the balut in full I really am not that brave enough to eat the whole.

Welcome to the balut eaters club , my friend. Balut is indeed a delicious and nutritious food of the Filipinos. But you should learn how to eat the little chick, because it's so yummy! Just don't look at it much, before eating it. Simply pour some vinegar and put some salt and eat it. Try to savor it, and you will find out that it's delicious.

Balut is part of the Filipino culture. The taste and the smell and the warmth of it at one's touch, nothing like it on other places of the world. If one tastes this, any OFW would surely miss this yummy treat! Best enjoyed as late-night snack hehe :)
