I know there are some people who are allergic to old movies, specially the black and white ones but in the last few weeks I am starting to enjoy some very old movies. some of those movies are older than my parents and grand parents, while others where just 5 years older than me. I think a lot of horror movies from 60's ,70's and 80's are actually better than the modern horror movies we have nowadays which is pure CGI computer effects. some super old romance movies are actually more watchable for men cos its more deeper and less cliche. I am starting to watch some very old movies in netflix and youtube and I hope those movies wont be remaked and butchered by modern Hollywood.

I love to watch the coupling of Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy. Some of my favorites are "Desk Set", "Woman of the Year", "Pat and Mike". Hepburn had some amazing films....."Philadelphia Story" was one. Anything directed by George Cukor or Frank Capra. Classics with Jimmy (James) Stewart....."Harvey" is brilliant. "It's a Wonderful Life". If you like Hitchcock, try "Lifeboat" with Tallulah Bankhead about a group of people in, surprise, a lifeboat. Brilliant. If you want to go older, try something like "All About Eve" with Bette Davis or "Now, Voyager." You can go even older with anything that has Greta Garbo....take a look at "The Grand Hotel". It has a slew of the most famous actors of that era. It really depends on what kind of movie you like and why you're watching them. There are some great Cary Grant films, hilarious, like "Arsenic and Old Lace" or the more suspensful "North by Northwest". What I love about the classic films is the scripts. They're well written and witty.....something I find lacking in most of the scripts today. Because all the CGI and special effects of today weren't available then, they had to be creative in generating reality. There are some truly brilliant things out there. I was born in 1964 and when I was growing up, the popular movies were Shirley Temple and Lewis (Jerry) & Martin (Dean) films. Doris Day was huge too. Want to go even further back.......try anything with Clara Bow or Louise Brooks. Another interesting thing is, in fact, all the remakes. Most people nowadays don't realize, for example, that "Ocean's Eleven" with Clooney et al is a remake. Due to a lack of originality and the pure fact that most of the new generation are not aware, it's easier for "Hollywood" to dig up an old film and remake it. Viewers don't know the difference unless they've seen the original. A perfect recent example is "The Women". The latest incarnation with an all-star Hollywood leading lady cast was HORRIBLE!.....especially if you've seen the original. You like horror? Check out the original "Beast with 5 fingers". The first Frankenstein films were amazing for their time. Obviously, I could go on and on. Lol.

The original "Exorcist" scared the P out of me! "Seed" was scary too. 5Fingers was done in 1946. Here's the imdb link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0038338/ Peter Lorre was a common staple in those types of movies. A truly unsung actor. Never got much credit for his work.

I think they were able to remake the women with an ease cos its a public domain now. The problem with the new generation is they dont look back to were they came from. Thats the reason why they open their mouths to every remake producer shove to their throaths. I just watched " the bad seed" that movie is awesome, they were able to make a cute little girl asa frightening threath. I'll check beast with five fingers, from what decade is it?

Hi Captain There are so many great classics that I always love to watch. The Black and White era was really something great. Indians are movie freaks and yes, I am one. Many of these classics are now in the way of being re-made and I personally feel that this is not that great an idea. But still, a few remakes have been better (as they tweaked the story and also added a few effects). From the English ones, I do still have a few select ones - The Sound of Music, 12 Angry Men, War and Peace. I am also on the lookout for adding some more into this classic collection for me.

currently I got an interest on watching old movies because a lot of them are uploaded in youtube, I recently watched To sir with love, Its a movie about a highschool teacher with bratty teenage students who are mean, rude and troubled but he manage to change them, that movie is like the template of the "inspiratioal teacher" movie genre we have in modern time. I also watched some 80's and 70's horror, they were much scarier than the computer CGI's horror movies we have today.

Golden Age... - Not of Hollywood...this is an old photo of CRH...:o)
I love many of the old movies. In fact I have drawn up lists of my favourite movies of all time, and at least one of these is dominated by movies made before I was born. Strangely though, I prefer to watch modern movies, and the more up to date the better. I love the technological advancements movies have made. The classics are for me just that...treasured movies that I visit as if they were works of art, rather than pure entertainment. For the latter, I prefer new movies. I'd say that many of the old movies were as good as they were because they were working to a strict production code, which was I feel to their advantage in artistic terms. But that does not mean that great artistic movies aren't still being made, because they most certainly are. Yet, the movies of the 30s, 40s, 50s were from a golden age which will surely never be repeated.

I just realized the reason why some super old movies are uploaded in youtube without being taken down, they were already public domain,.I found that interesting, so not only they can be owned by people for free. those movies can be remaked without getting copyright licenses, I watch old movies but not much the silent films.I prefer to hear voices. I also watch for history purposes.

Some days ago my husband and I watched an old movie from the early 1940's. It is called "Elly Petersen" and it is an old Danish movie about a young girl from the countryside who moves to Copenhagen. She looks forwards to a lot of new and exciting experiences, but her stay in Copenhagen doesn't turn out the way that she expected and she gets many problems. I really liked this movie, and I think it is touching story, because she is so young and so naive when she arrives and during the movie she get more mature and we watch how she changes. It is a black and white movie, and it is interesting to listen to the language and watch the way that the actors behave, because there are a lot of changes between that time and the year 2012.

some of the old movies are considered public domain so we can watch them online without the risk of being accused of piracy, well we are not from the US, so we dont really have to worry.

One of the old classics that I am truly fond off is . THe whole film takes place in a single room and involves 12 jury who have to decide to whether convict a young boy/ let him go. It is a very engrossing film and one of my favorites from the 50's.. Cheers

Is that a local movie from your country or is that an old Foreign movie? The plot seems interesting. a lot of old movies have fresher plots than the cliches we are having now.

My mom was 71 years old when she passed away so it would be very, very old movies if you would ask me. But I do have two favorite classic pre-war movies and that would be "Gone With the Wind" and "The Wizard of Oz". I like Judy Garland but unfortunately "The Wizard of Oz" is the only movie that I was able to watch which she starred in. I am also an Aubrey Hepburn fan and have watched most, if not all of her movies.

Audrey Hepburn is like the most beautiful actress in existence, she falls in the beautiful category, not in the sexy category, since she looks like the type of woman men will introduce to their mom. I only seen her in Moon river, I think I was like 10 then, my sister rented a VHS tape of that movie.

There are some movies i know that are oler than me that i like but not sure if they are older than my parents. They were born in the 60s. The movies i like are going to be flash dance, foot loose, saturday night fever. I guess you can tell that i like dance movies i also like grease and than there is A League Of There Own that i like as well. Some old movies are much better than movies these days as the technology is so different now and you can actually tell that in movies. Im not a fan of horror movies but i do like some old movies as you can tell.

I took an entire class on Alfred Hitchcock. I absolutely love his movies. A few of my favorites are Psycho and The Birds. My abosolute favorite though, is Vertigo starring Jimmy Stewart. Hitchock was an amazin director who pushed the boundaries of his time. I also love Gone With the Wind. Rosemary's Baby is a great movie as well, and the original House on Haunted Hill starting Vincent Price.

I watched both of those movies, The birds is amazing , its fascinating how a very old movie manage to use real birds not some computer special effects, Its also like a warning from mother nature since humans are abusive to nature., they cut the trees were birds live.

Older than my parents? That's stuff before 1928! So I'm thinking Marx Brothers, Chaplin, Harold Lloyd and just (but only just) Laurel and Hardy. I do like old films, the pacing is different because they expect the audience to have a longer attention span than modern cinema does.

LOL I expected teens and young adults on this thread, I just realized in your case the movies older than your parents are silent films. I am a person who hates Dramas but I appreciated watching Born Free, To Sir With love, The Graduate, and Jeremy.

Two of my favorites are from long ago. the first being gone with the wind and the second being the Wizard of Oz. I believe that they were both released in 1939. My mom and dad were both born in the 50's, so it was way before they were born.

I heared that the Wizard ofOZ is a huge flop when it was released but it became a home video hit and a television hit. it became so iconic, So I guess producers should not be broken hearted if their movie flops. maybe someday it will be legendary.

Yesterday I just watched some of them in youtube, some of them were fully uploaded in youtube. I think I appreciate some old movies because they were able to pull off some good visuals despite of the lack of technology. While others dont rely on special effects. Its sad many people are close minded to old movies, they have to wait for it to be remaked before watching it.

I love old films! Love the musicals with Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire, they are great (and love the movies where Kelly duos with Frank sinatra like Anchors Aweigh). For laughs, I like Charlie Chaplin (The Kid is best, so funny and sweet...but isn't a "talky"), Laurel & Hardy, and the old 3 Stooges films. As far as romance films though, I prefer the older classics because, like you said, the men are much more watchable.

I didnt say the men were watchable, LOL I said they were watchable for men. Cos modern romance movies focuses too much to the female audience.

I'd run out of space if I tried to list all the old movies I like. I like a lot from before my parents' time. And, I'm the only one in my family who does, although sometimes I manage to get my mom interested in one. My favorite older movies are from the 30's and 40's. Mostly dramas, although I also love musicals.

Since you have Netflix catch Flying Deuces with Laurel and Hardy, and also Young Frankenstien. these both are comedies and Netflix has them both on now. I love some of the old black and white movies. Enjoy watching!

Laurel and hardy kind of reminded me a bit of the three stooges.I think a company in China are using their likeness in the plastic wrappers of a cerati sausage brand, I dont know if they were considered as public domain already.,
