My computer has been on the verge of a disaster for over a year. It seems to be seriously thinking of giving up the ghost any day now!!! After several personal setbacks, I've been short on funds to buy a new one. A dear, dear friend has told me that if I find one that I like that he'll loan me the difference in what I have & what it will cost...with a generous time payment plan!!! So, I'm hoping to have a new computer soon!!! Now, here is where I need your advice... I have nearly a thousand CDs that I have purchased over the years & would like to convert them to MP3s. If you know a good MP3 Converter proggy, will you please recommend it to me??? Also, I have been using FireFox for almost 3 years & love it!!! I know a good majority of myLotters use FireFox. I've also noticed that a good number have switched to Google Chrome. I have also noticed that a huge percentage despise IE. So now to my next question...what is it that's so great about your preferred browser??? Since I'm getting a new computer & a new OS, I'd like to make changes while I'm still in the learning curve. So, whatever advice you have for me, I'll take to heart & may very well implement when I first start setting up my new computer. So, please tell me what advice do you have for me???

Hi LadyMarissa, You can get a refurbished laptop for under $400. I did at Radio Shack. I got my EMachine for just about $300, and gave it away and got this laptop. I love it. I've had it 3 years. I think refurbished ones are just as good as the new ones and cost a lot less. I have Windows 7 operating system on this one... I used to have Vista... I like 7 a whole lot better. Now about browsers.. I hate IE. It's not as friendly to use as the other ones and I think it is easier to get corrupted. I use both Firefox and Chrome. Chrome, for some reason crashes a lot on me, so now I only use it for short things that I have saved on Chrome and then go back to firefox to do my computing. My weight watchers is on Chrome and my banking is... I happen to like Chrome better for them... but then I get off from it because it will crash on me fairly quickly. Nothing ever happens with Firefox. It's fast too.

Wow, Marissa, Your friend sounds like a young saint. I want to thank him for his kindness and generous offer to you. I also have had computer problems and have had this computer for a long time. I pretty much also stopped posting on here a while back when I got hacked and it ruined my computer. But we brought it to Best Buys finally where they repaired. Antoher place that is recommended (I haven't tired the myet, but others did highly recommend for best prices), that they do full checks on your computer for you, clean it out, clear viruses, speed it up, and regular price I saw a coupon for yesterday said $9.99, but with the coupon at the store, they are having a discount down to $4.99. Good luck, and sorry can't help you with the other topics, as I am pretty slow on techie stuff. :o)

Quick media converter although simple ranked 1st in many competitions.... Firefox is the best, Its compared in terms of speed ,flexibility, usability , startup time, security. Now an advice i hav to give you is, Before just buyin something small, its best to look at better options although they will cost more, bcz as per the rate at which tech is advancing today, you will quikly hav considered goin for a betta option, if possible buy your pc online, and independently too... since you can get larger discounts that way instead of buying an assembled comp......

Thank you for ALL the GREAT information...especially on the converter!!! I've been a huge fan of FF since I first began to use it. I noticed a lot of people were using Chrome, but never heard anybody say why they liked it. It's good to know FF is the best one out there as I'm already familiar with it & know which add-ons I prefer!!!
