How can you find simple jobs in Odesk & increase your chances of getting hired?

I'm new to Odesk. It was just yesterday that I took the Odesk readiness test and 3 other test to increase my application limit. I have completed my profile and all, too. I've already tried applying for 3 jobs but to no avail. Is there some kind of technique in writing cover letters so that you'll increase your chances of getting hired (fast) by the employer? Care to share your experiences or some advice in searching for simple jobs, what factors I must consider, the search settings, or even something I have to verify on the employer's profile, etc...? I'm really new to it so I need specifics. ^^

I registered to odesk sometimes back and soon after, I got bored due to the long process. I would suggest you to try other sites like iwriter which are much easier to get a job and does not require those long processes.

How does Iwriter work? And it's only for writers, I suppose? Also, is it available worldwide? (there are a lot of sites available only to US and Canadian residents)

Open to all. You register, choose the job among many in the list and start working or writing about it. The only thing that you need to do is to stick to the guidelines given or else your work may not be approved.

Most employers on odesk prefer the ones that has experiences, also if they are impressed with your resumes etc, and if you offer the cheapest amount of payment. I have an odesk account but I rarely get on since it's hard for me to land a part time job there.

Oh yeah, take that in consideration- bid for the lowest amount. But only do it if you are just looking for experience in Odesk and if you think the job is easy enough otherwise you'll end up feeling so used!

This is really very boring website, I mean i created my account some times back and have been applying for jobs on it since then. I have since applied to more than 50 jobs but not even a single of them replied me. I stopped using it, nothing is better than getting jobs through forums.

I have joined odesk but I am not ale to get any work order.I think the process is very long and sometimes it is boring also.I have tried many times by bidding on simple projects but never got selected.I think they don't give chance to Indians.Whatever it may be the site did not provided me with any job.

Hi anncherry! I am a member of Odesk too and I started out September last year. Based from my own experience, I applied to 5 jobs all at once. It would be better to apply to more jobs as you can because 75% of the time, only 2 or 3 employers will reply. Look for jobs that says "Newbies are welcome" - they don't look at the employment background that much and they will give you a chance to have 5 stars on your profile! Good luck and have a nice day!

There is no trick you have to keep searching. You really have to do some writing if anything, because some of the data jobs and stuff like that will have to wait. They want someone with experience to do those, don't worry just set up your profile and keep everything accurate. You will get interviews and everything, but make sure to at least search and take a job that is low, because some cannot pay much. Working on Odesk for a client is like working at a regular job you have to work to get paid. I am on a job where I have to do 25 articles a day and it is a lot of work, but I am happy to have it.

Hi there anncherry, I would suggest that you try to look for jobs that has the description that they entertain newcomers since they offer easy jobs and at the same time try to be patient and try more than one application to help boost the chances of landing a job, i guess girl thinking beat me to this suggestion hehe but do it and answer more of those test's it will surely attract more employers if they see that you are capable in this areas.
