People of african and native american indian descent normally give their children names that have some meaning in their respective langauage. In more western cultures the names sometimes are chosen from their favourite actors and singers. Some children get names which are an amalgam or variation of the mother or fathers name . How did you choose your kid's name and if you dont yet ,how would you choose your kids name ?

For me, I make names based on whether I like the sound of the name when it is pronounced together with the surname. Of course, I'd go after the meaning of the name time. I personally do not like giving someone a relative's name, like making one of them a junior and the other a senior. I want to think that the baby as a unique person and not someone who just came after.

I would name my kids after their grandparents. It is quite easy and there is no thinking unless I run out of names. For instance if my parents and hubby's parents have the same name, we would have fewer choices or if I marry someone with the same name as my dad or I have have the same name as hubby's mom, we would have fewer names to pick from.

That's a good method but sometimes the grandparents have older names which would give your kids a hard time because imagine the amount of teasing a child named "Adolphus" in the modern school system. Other than that ,grandparents would be honored to have their grand kids named after them.

At the time i had my son i was into female liberation. I chose a name that was unisex. For male or female. When i had my daughter i was studing the Holy Scriptures and gave her a Bible name. I had desided to give the rest of my children Bible names but she was my last one. She gave her oldest son and her daughter Bible names too. Her second son dad named. I do not know where he got that name from.

Lol I didn't know that female liberation had anything to do with the naming of a child ,I am learning something valuable here.I like the biblical names though I think if I had children ,I would try that. Thanks for your answer

I don't have any children, but if I did, I would give them names I like.

Both of my children were named after people that have been important to me in my life. My daughter is named Kathryn Teresa and she was named after my Great-Aunt Coot (Catherine) and also after Mother Teresa because she was an inspiration to me. My son is named Paul Thomas after a friend of mine that passed away when we were in college (I promised his parents that I would name my first son after him) and also his father.
