Advice for typing on a smartphone

I just got a T-Mobile MyTouch 4G and I really like it. It's everything and more than I could want. It's been fun trying out all the different functions and apps on the phone itself and learning how to download several from the Internet. My only problem though is the typing part. It is terribly hard and slow to even IM chat when you are using two thumbs or an index finger to tap out one key after another and not mess up. I have heard there are apps that make the process easier. My phone also comes with SWIPE, but I have yet to figure it out. Can anyone out there help? Any suggestions? Or is just a matter of practice, practice and ughh! Practice! =/

Well, this is a great tips. Thank you for sharing. Most of people do not know how to type well on a smartphone. They just simply type whatever they want. It is a good news then for them. I probably will tell them this tips. Good job!

Yes, Ivan. Do you have a smartphone or IPhone also? Are you pretty fast or are you also learning? Sometimes I think I should have just gotten me a tablet instead of a smartphone. Hahahah!!

Looks like a good idea to have a tablet but the drawback is it is bigger and not as handy to carry.

If you use a lot on chatting or posting, you'd better off using the one with a real keyboad. I used Nokia E90 because I had a lot of writing, emailing and messaging. The touch screen model is probably suitable who is addicted to mobile gaming, although it's possible for writing and emailing. But as you see our fingers are larger than the letter boxes in the virtual keyboad, right? So, many times, you mistype the letters. I am sure you can get used to it in the long run.

Yeah, that thought has crossed my mind but if I am going to do that then I might as well just use my laptop for such times. I have to admit though, the ability to use something so small at a moment's notice just about anywhere that fits in one's hand and weighs so little is why I got the smartphone. It's so cool laying in bed watching TV and holding my smartphone to do a little morning chatting with my friends. I feel so spoiled relaxing and chatting! =P Again, it sounds like I just need to practice more and get used to it. And I am so glad to know I am not the only one that types slow and makes typos when my thumbs make contact with the wrong key. =)

I don't think you make typos on your laptop since I know you've been writing for a long time. Talking about mobile phones, have you tried to mylot using smart phones? If you think that's possible, I'll consider using it while I am on the go. Happy mylotting leafygreens08. Nice chatting with you.

I guess that is a matter of practice. I had saw some girls type it so fast with both hands. Maybe they use short - hand writing, but they are incredibly fast, and I just couldn't do it myself. I had tried on my smart phone too, but I just couldn't type it right without error. So, I usually slow down, and letter by letter, what a shame!

Yes, heheh! I chat with friends online and they are on their phones and they say a lot and quickly too. This is why I decided to ask here in MyLot to see if maybe there's an app I can DL that might help, or any tips that improve my speed and accuracy on my new smartphone. Looks like we are both in the same boat for now. Good luck, Kingparker!

Please I want to know from you if it is possible to make post on mylot from this smartphone of yourself. I was able to learn that it is not possible to make post on mylot through smartphones including the popular blackberry. How true is this statement?

I can't tell you, Naija. I am currently replying to all these posts using my laptop. I don't even want to try it with my smartphone. I see I have six posts to answer and if I try to use my smartphone to answer I will be here all night. LOL! =D I can check my email and chat, so I don't see why we shouldn't be able to log here as long as we are accessing the Internet, Naija. Maybe you should post your quest outside this thread so others can try to help? Good luck!

The first time I got my smartphone I find it so hard to type. I knew it is just hard at first and as time passes by I get used to it.I am now used to type on my Smartphone. Practice makes perfect.

Yes, I guess I am just impatient, but I wanted to ask here to make sure there wasn't some trick or an app out there that would make things easier to learn so I can be tying like a Pro like some others I have seen. Practice... practice... ughhh... practice. LOL!

I guess it is everyone's problem who use smartphone or touch screen phone for the first time. But as day goes by and as you use it more often I think you will used to it and don't have a hard time in typing.Practice is really recommended and the best way to type fast.

Yes, looks like it. I have just found something like a "tool app" on my smartphone called "Swype" and I guess it is for making it easier to type with. I tried it, but it doesn't work for me. Maybe I am not doing it right yet and so I'll just play around with it and check the instructions. I really hope it helps. If it does, I will have to make a post about to share with all my MyLot friends here. It might help them also. =)

So before i had my iphone i had a sidekick and that is way different than a iphone. The sidekick i had i was able to use both thumbs and type pretty quick after i got used to it of course. Then i got my iphone and its just the touch of the top of your thumb to put in a letter or number. Now you dont have to use two thumbs at all because you can get more done with just using one because you dont have to push down so hard at all for the iphones. Alot of phones just have the glass tops now so just a slight touch can make a difference.

Okay, I understand that. I have been trying with both one index finger which is smaller to tap with than a thumb. I have even trimmed my nails to help me "aim" better. Heheheh! Sounds like I just need to practice more. I don't text at all but I do like to email and chat online, and so I would like to be able to type a little faster than just hunt and peck. The MyTouch has the glass top like the IPhone.
