it's been months when i have start reading books again after those long years... well i think i am very devoted reader for i usual finish a book (with a least 200 plus pages) in one sitting... i read it in one night... then my mom is too angry with that type of habit because i don't get enough sleep every night... but the thing is, it's addictive and i just can't close my eyes if i don't finish the whole book... does your mom hates you if you lack sleep because of reading? or are you just like me so addictive and just can't put the book down... tell me your story...

I am also an eager reader, and when I find a good book, I want to read it until the end. In the past I was able to spend an entire night on a book, but with the age I am often sleeping before the end. The advantage is that I don't take sleeping pills.

You know that you are not helping your case here, right? It is a good thing that you are an avid reader, but the wheelchairs, old age and not being able to stay up for most of the night might just counteract your intelligence ... I'm just saying ...

I thought you would have at least found interesting to know that I was not taking sleeping pills. Maybe I need something else than a book to have a sleepless night now?

I am ready to swap some tips in the interest of the starter : If we continue on this way, luntian_grace mom's will find myLot more dangerous than books, and maybe she will authorize her to read all the night.

I used to read all the time, and I was like you ... if it was a good book, then I could not put it down and would stay up all night if need be in order to finish it. Then, I got too busy to have time to read for myself, but I read to my children all the time. Now, I am starting to get back in the habit of reading not only to my little one but also picking up a book and reading it just for myself.

I would say that at least it is keeping them out of a lot of other troubles that they could be getting into. I would prefer them to be reading all night than going out and tipping cows or something like that.

But what would you say to them if your children were reading all the night?

any mom would hate her son or daughter who does not get enough sleep. mother knows that this is not healthy and that her son/daughter is sacrificing his/her health for something that s/he's passionate about. it breaks the heart of a mother. i hope you are not doing this every night. otherwise you are putting your health at risk. please listen to your mom.

LOL, Well I can understand your mom's concern if you aren't sleeping good enough. But I know that from experience, if you are reading a great book, it can be SO addictive, and so hard to put down. I am reading a book like that right now. I can't wait to post a few more times so that I can get back to reading it!!!! Happy Reading! Try not to over-do it though!

so what's the book that you are reading right now? anything that i can really get my hands to even as boring as autobiography of political people to pocketbooks... i just want to learn their styles in writing... i want to know how they starts a plot and other stuffs that they end up with something that is very incredible to read... just few days ago i run out of books that i tried reading at wattpad (my brother's phone has an app for it) and i was really amaze on how one author by the name xostardust made her master piece... she is not using a narrator but using POVs of each main and some other characters in the story... it was a whole new experience for me... it was definitely a different style of what i am accustomed to but i love it... but i think that she lacks some research in the story... to make it very convincing that the story is about people that lives around 15th-17th century or earlier... other than technicalities i really love xostardust and i think i am a fan now. i think that she will be a very good writer... i hope that you can read her piece at wattpad it's the The Last Dance.

I had that happen to me once in my life when I was addicted to reading like you are. I would not be able to put the book down because I would be thrilled on reading on what would happen next. It is recommended to read books but if it affects your daily life then I think it is unhealthy. You should understand your mother and make proper time for your reading. She is right in her hatred as this habit is making you lose sleep. Remember that reading a book is a pastime and it should not affect your daily activites.

If reading is an addiction, that is something everyone should be addicted to. But, you have to try to balance. You do need your sleep.

simply try to tell her that you do not like your readings. everyone is free to read everything he wants, until proven otherwise.

I come from a family of readers. When I do pick up a book that interests me I can have it read in one or two days. If I just don't like the book I don't continue to read it, that's just me. No one gets upset at me for reading too much as I make sure I do get sleep too.

I'am not that addictive like you. It depends on the book I'm reading, if it is really interesting and thrilling I can't stop and wanted to read and know what will happen next. Your mom is just concern to you. Maybe you need to have limitation or a time when you need to stop and take a rest.

I think the love for reading is a very valuable passion to develop in a child because this make the child open and willing to learn more or to gather information. However, time management is also a valuable skill that every person should exercise. I must admit I used to be just like you. Sometimes I still stay up late just because I can't stop myself from reading more and more of the book I'm reading. But I find that I become sluggish throughout the day and am easily tired. It's not a good idea if that becomes a habit for you because sooner or later, your health will give out. And it's so much worse if you get sick or if you turn in a mediocre job because you're too tired. So my advice for you is, listen to your mother. There's nothing wrong with reading with a passion, but you have to be wise in time management. Cheers!
