yesterday I was feeling a little down so I decided to got to my favourite place, the zoo for a couple of hours, so I got my camera and set off to do my walk around the zoo, I know we all feel down at times but all it took was a little girl about 5 years old was so excited at being at the zoo she gave me a big smile, I don't think we are aware how much a simple smile can do for someone who is feeling down.....smile and make someones day....

I don't like to go to the zoo. I don't care to see animals by themselves. I think that all animals should have a mate and when I see them all by themselves I feel so sad for them. I do enjoy my grandson and when I am feeling bad I hold his hand and feel like I get some of his energy.

Yes. Zoo --it is interesting to take children with us and show them the animals. After some age we do not feel like spending our time in zoo. We have to walk a lot in zoo. we have to bear the smell of animals. But smile is a great thing. It can solve many problems for all of us. Now SMILE SMILE.

Most of the zoos I've been to in the last 25 years never have animals alone. Well, there was one tiger alone, but a staff member said he didn't get on with the other big cats...

A smile from anyone can make ones day. It is when there is a glow on their face, a sparkle in their eyes and such a innocent and happy smile that just makes the day worth while.

If you see that smile and you think of it as an honest smile that came from joy and love , you get infected :) Such things do make me feel happy and forget some annoying thoughts.

Yes, I know. That happens to me too. Like when I'm having bad day and someone unexpectedly smiled at me, it just makes me feel better. So that's how powerful the smile is. It can change how we feel.

I may not see you smile and so with you but I believe what you said is so powerful. We can't just realize how much a simple smile can brighten the dark and dreary day of someone who's down. I'm always amazed when I see people smile how it changes the people around them. I have gone to some department stores where the saleslady doesn't smile. I usually smile and continue smiling until I see a response. The power of smile is one of the most effective cure or prevention of a disease you might think of. So, this response might not be significant but I would like you to know that I am smiling as I am typing the words in this response. A smile can give hope.

You are so lucky living where you do. I believe you need to take out a bank loan to get into Taronga Park...how is the entrance fee where you are. I'm lucky because I have my critters around me all the time...I do see many activities of cruelty though that sadden me. Smiling at you lilac.

Good day lilaclady, I am sorry to hear you were feeling a little down but I am happy that you did something to make yourself feel better. I love going to the zoo but I have never gone alone and never thought to. But now after reading your discussion it sounds very appealing. I think I will do that once it warms up. I never had a car until last year and had no way of going alone but now I have my own car I can go alone. I wouldn't even need the smile although that would make it even more special. I love the animals and the thought of just walking around and not having my mind on anything. I usually go with my daughter when I visit the zoo and that is nice but to go alone once in awhile would be nice too. Thanks, Happy mylotting my friend, Cheers...Chris

Delighted Kids - A scene at the zoo.
Yes smile has power to sooth the heart of the receiver especially if it comes from a child. I think a child can give the sincerest smile of all. At the zoo we can see smiling children. They do love and enjoy the animals around the zoo. They love to interact with them. I think the zoo is one of the best place children should go.

It just rather goes to show you that the most simple things in life are often times the most wonderful right in life. One of the most wonderful things would be naturally given a smile. A smile can really just raise the spirits of a lot of people. It can really bring them up to a certain level, raise their spirits and give them some joy in their life. A lot of people underestimate the value of a good smile. But it can really allow us some clarity in life. It can allow us some joy to say the very least and life is rather going to be enjoyable if we just send a slight smile. The darkest day can be brightened by a slight smile. It doesn't seem like much but for some a smile is worth more than we can imagine.

When people smile at me I often feel weird... Like... Why are you smiling at me? But I just smile back and hide my embarrassment. Sometimes I just smile while I'm daydream and people smile back because they think I'm smiling at them, and it is kind of funny. But I agree it can make someone's day, so just be nice to people!

It is rightly said, "Smile is the shortest distance between two people". The best thing is you got a big smile from a 5 year old girl. Children's smiles are extremely innocent and can melt down anything. One lovely smile from my niece work wonders for me.

yes, children's smile is clean and warm and always makes me forget bitterness and trouble. Strangers's smile makes me feel that I am welcomed and the world is so nice. I like smiling and smile loudly and sincerely. My friends say that being with me, they can feel relaxed and happy. Smile can infect the people around you. And happiness spreads with the smile.

That is so true. There have been days when I might not be feeling all the greatest and feel like smiling, and get around someone who really should have life worse than me, and they will be smiling and all Happy and it makes you wonder what do I really have to complain about? Smiling never hurt anyways.

Hi Lila, I know what you mean, when someone smile at you out of nowhere. Many years ago one early morning as I made my way to work, I was walking towards my office block, there was no one around, I was in such a bad mood as everything has gone wrong for me, then out of the carpark a lady walked towards me and give such a warm lovely smile, well, I felt very different form that moment, it was magic, I turned around to see where she was going but she was no where to be seen. I felt happy all day, just that one smile done it. Tamara

Well you gave me a good smile today. It always cheers me up to open my emails and find a notifier from you starting a discussion. I know that there will be one discussion I can comment on that is not going to erupt into an argument.

Hi lilaclady, you are so absolutely right,,,You may never know how much a smile means to some people, weather they are having a bad or night...Sometimes when we see people and we may not be so much in a bad mood but we know we are not looking kind, nicem or happy and then when you pass that smiley faced person, you think or at least I do, why am I not smiling like that...I have a lot to be thankful for...God has been more than fair to me in my life. He has even done things for me that I didn't even deserve.. So I try to perk up and put a smile on my face....after all it dosen't cost one thin dime....
