The Passing of Another Fine Actor...

I just read that actor Ben Gazzara died today (Friday 02/03/2012) of pancreatic cancer. He was 81 years old. Ben was a popular actor when I was a tween, teen, & young adult. He was the lead actor in the television series Run for Your Life playing a terminally ill man who only had 2 years to live & was seeking to live his life to the fullest before his impending death. It was one of the best shows on at the time!!! He starred with Patrick Swayze in Road House in 1989 & I find it interesting that they both died from pancreatic cancer. In his early years, he played the good guy in most shows or movies. In his later years, he seemed to have turned a new leaf playing the most hated man in the movie. I know many of the younger people here have never heard of him; however, all you old foggies...like myself...may well have some fond memories of Ben. Do you have anything you care to add here???

wow LasyMarissa, thanks for the 411 about Ben Gassara..I had not
heard that at all...I am not an old foggie but neither am I one
of those young people...He was a very good actor..I didn't even
know he was that ill...I do remember seeing him in alot of shows
and he was the good guy...he was a nice looking man in his younger
\years...

Oh, I hate to hear that. I always hate to hear of another celebrity leaving us. It is so sad. I really like watching Ben Gazarro act. I have too, seen him behaving badly and then being the very good guy. I loved his facial expressions and the way he talked. He was a very sophisticated suave kind of guy. I hate to hear he is gone.

His mean was just as believable as his good!!! It always makes me sad when we lose one of the good oldies!!!

hi LadyMarissa oh my Ben Gazzara was one of my favorite actors
too. I am saddened to hear he has passed along with Peter Falk
and the wonderful Columbo series. thanks for calling our
attention to them.I am one of the old foggies too, 85 so makes
me think of my own mortality. wow. They were two great actors
and so many newer actors just do not quite measure up to me.

I have a lot of fond memories from Ben's early work!!! I NEVER missed Run for Your Life. No matter what I needed to do, I made sure I was home in time to watch that show!!!
I agree with you that the newer actors don't measure up to the talent of some of the oldies but goodies!!! It's sad that we're beginning to lose so many of the good ones!!! 
My uncle began to stare his own mortality in the face when he was only 62 years old. He started telling me "all my friends are dying & I'm not far behind". He lived to be 97 years old!!! So, you have NO way of knowing who you might outlive!!!
