A question about Angkor Wat in Cambodia

When I am going to Cambodia I will stay at a hotel in Siam Reap and I am trying to find the best way to get from Siam Reap to Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom. I can buy a private tour and then the driver will pick me up at my hotel and drive me to Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom, give me a guided tour and drive me back to my hotel. That option sounds a little expensive and another possibility would be to rent a car and a driver for one day and explore Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom on my own. Have you been to Angkor Wat in Cambodia? Did you stay in Siam Reap? How did you get from Siam Reap to Angkor Wat? Did you buy a guided tour or did you explore Angkor Wat on your own? What would you recommend?

Hi Porcospino! I have been to Siem Reap already. Though a private tour is expensive but not that expensive if you are in Siem Reap. We were able to get a2 day tour that is quite cheap but that is because we are a group of 5. If you have 3 days to spare to tour the temples, I recommend you hire a guide or get in touch with a local and do a cycling tour. I see many foreigners that goes on a cycling tour when we were there. But check the season first if you want this option. It is quite humid during the dry season in Siem Reap. We were lucky back then when we got the private tour. I befriended the local operator and asked him to make some adjustments with the itinerary. So we were able to go to the temples and sites that we like.

Thanks for your response, I am happy to hear from someone who has been to Cambodia We plan on spending 2 or 3 days in Siem Reap. A cycling tour sounds nice, but we are going to visit Cambodia during the dry season. It is great that you became friends with the local operater and that you were able to change the itinerary according to your wishes. On the internet we have read about a private tour, we are either going to take that tour or ask one of the locals to drive us around when we arrive, we haven't decided yet.

Check this website. Tell me if the packages are good or not. Maybe I can negotiate with them. http://www.asiavipa.com/

Thanks for the link I have bookmarked the website, I think that the tour that lasts 2 days sounds interesting because we would be able to visit the places that we are interested in, but I will read about the other tours, too and discuss it with my husband.
