I have observed that when riding the elevator i just cant seem to find the number thirteen button. Well the top floor of the building which we could find in the elevator might be twenty but i think the building might just actually have ninteen floors because there is no thirteenth floor in the elevator. I have also observed the same thing when riding the airplane. I was looking at the numbers to find where i should be seated but then again, i can't seem to find the seat number thirteen. I don't quite seem understand why buidings and airplanes don't have thirteens but i think it has something to do about superstitious beliefs. I heard that hospitals don't also have room numbered thirteen but so far i haven't observed it yet. How about you? Have you also observed the same? Do you know the reason why people are avoiding number thirteen? Does i have anything to do about supersitious beliefs? Thanks for sharing guys.

if in our country, there is thirteen floor and seat thirteen on the airplane. but the curious thing is that, we dont have fourteen, haha. this is really a superstition in our country, cause the 14 is mean that 'must die'. and most of the people dont like it. so in most building, we cant find the fourteen floor, but it really there, and just replace by 13A.

I've seen and heard about this a lot. I have a question though, and seemingly no one was able to provide a definite answer. With regards to buildings and establishments, when it is said that there is no 13th Floor, does that mean that there really is no physical 13th floor or does it mean that they just didn't label it 13th floor but there is a physical floor?

Well the number 13 is associated with bad luck, associated with scary things and not good things at all. Friday the 13th days are always the worst and some people wont even leave there houses on that day when it comes around. No one will ever see thenumber 13 in a hospital, an elevator, on a airplane or anything associated with those things in life. Its just something you will learn when growing up i guess. I just learned it not that long ago and really never even noticed it before.

well it seems strange to me that people have so much superstitious belief about that particular number. i have seen people considered this particular number as the unlucky one. i too want to know the reasons for that. i have heard that people have a disliking for the few prime numbers like -17,29,21,13,7 and few others. in my country i do not find the influence of this number so much but have heard of hotels having no 13th number room. I really find it strange and wonder the reason behind the disliking of this particular number specifically. well what more i can say... My birthday is on 13th .For me this number have been always lucky and good omen. I dislike the fact that people have bad reasons to make my birthday date unlucky.

Yes, I do have observe that.. I started observing that when I was watching Korean film of THE PHONE.. When the girl keeps on pressing different floor and she keeps on going on the 13th floor. The story behind that people don't put 13th floor in the building is because they considered 13 as unlucky, and a so called triskaidekaphobia on the part of the building owner to prevent problems with the tenants and because of superstitions. So I guess that's the reason why every time we keep on looking for 13th floor we can't find one.

When I went to Las Vegas I noticed there were no Floor 13's, so the elevator didn't stop at 13, of course. I find this kind of bizarre, but Las Vegas is all about gambling and luck so I can imagine some really superstitious people might not want to have a hotel room on the 13th floor. It's weird, though, because there still IS a 13th floor - 13th from the bottom - it's just called the '14th' floor because it skips a floor. But it technically is still the 13th. *shrugs*. I am not all that superstitious, so it wouldn't bother me to sit in the 13th row or sleep on the 13th floor of a building. I never noticed it in planes, so that's kind of weird. But I guess some people are already afraid of flying, so why freak them out even more...

Of course everyone knows how many feel so strongly superstitious about the number 13, black cats and ladders. No, there aren't any 13th floor reading at most places. I don't think it would bother me to be on the 13th. We're on there anyway, it's just not called that. It's called 14th.

There are a lot of people out there who are very superstitious. To the point where paranoia to say the very least. There are just many people who really seem to think that bad luck comes in many forms. Of course, it is really a self fulfilling prophecy. If someone believes something to be true, then it is really going to be more than true. I think that these room numbers are just not put in with the number thirteen, just to appease the masses. Which are in fact rather superstitious. People tend to cling onto the most outdated beliefs. The number thirteen is just one of those things that is just going to be around all of the time. Superstitious beliefs just happened and people tend to mentally sabotage themselves because there beliefs in the superstition.

Yes I have observed the such and in similar situations and you. It is funny though I thought everyone knew that the number thirteen is associated with bad luck. I do not know where that originated from but that is just it. Ever heard of Friday the thirteenth? Ever wonder why it sometimes popular when such a date comes? Same reason! Do a little research to know more because I think I will too.

Hi and a happy day to all! I worked in a real estate company and every building they built has no 13th floor on it. So there is no number 13 in elevator because there is no existing one. It always gets to number 12 and 14 next. I also observe it in famous buildings around me like embassies and such, they dont have number 13 too. It is already accepted in society, its a superstitious belief but it is really wide compare to some beliefs. It is worldwide, and even big companies like airlines follows it. No one likes number 13 especially in construction sites. Enjoy your day!

This has been common practice all my life & I just learned to not question it as it evolved from a silly superstition. In 61 years, I've only ever had ONE unlucky Friday the 13th...not great odds to support unlucky 13. I've also never known anyone who could explain the difference to me on why it's unlucky to stay on the floor labeled #13 & safe to stay on the 13th floor that is labeled #14 as you're still on the 13th floor!!! Also, why is #113, 213, etc not as unlucky as #13??? It's still the 13th in line in the series!!!
