First lady jets to Aspen for ritzy ski trip Michelle Obama has embarked on a skiing vacation with her daughters in Aspen, Colorado, according to the Aspen Daily News. The first lady, who just returned last month from 17 days of relaxation in Hawaii, is skiing in Colorado on Presidents’ Day Weekend for the second year in a row. Last year she went to Vail. Michelle’s decision to ski out West again instead of hitting slopes closer to Washington would seem an inopportune choice for a first lady who is helping her husband campaign on issues of “fairness.” The Obama campaign has set itself up as the defender of the poor and the middle class against the “One Percent,” a theme which clashes with the image a first lady who is taking frequent and exclusive vacations. Just last August, she sojourned on Martha’s Vineyard, and the month before she travelled to southern Africa for a trip that mixed official business with tourist outings like an African safari. In July 2010, she took an exorbitant excursion to the southern coast of Spain, flying out with friends and family on a large jet that often serves as Air Force 2 and then staying at a ritzy hotel. What’s more, as the government struggles to cut the deficit, the symbolism of a first lady jetting out to Aspen with a security entourage at taxpayers’ expense to ski would seem to send the wrong message about cutting back on spending. For her last two Hawaii vacations, Michelle left separately from her husband at extra cost to taxpayers in order to ensure she got the full vacation while the president was forced to remain in Washington a few extra days to finish work with Congress. President Obama last summer called for “an attitude of shared sacrifice” to solve the nation’s deficit woes. Michelle this weekend is reportedly staying at the Aspen home of a wealthy Obama backer from Chicago. She held a fundraiser at the same residence last July. http://www.whitehousedossier.com/2012/02/18/michelle-obama-decides-ski-aspen/ http://times247.com/articles/michelle-obama-enjoying-pricey-ski-vacation I think this is a damned disgrace!!! No wonder the Elitist Obamas want another four years of the GOOD LIFE....to hell with the fact that our country is falling apart..... as long as they can live it up on our dollars. What is your opinion

Miss Michelle demands that we tighten our belts... so she can live in extravagant opulence. She's a prima donna who considers Americans her little surfs to be fleeced.

Well said. The middle class and the poor are only to be used, or fleeced (as you said) to bankroll her opulent lifestyle.

Perhaps someone should ask Mr Obama if his war against the one per centers is so his wife can have more exotic trips on the tax payers dime, because it's certainly not to help the lower and middle classes. At least the one per centers pay for their exotic trips with their own dime.

I find it very ironic, of course, that the family has so many privileges. I also wonder what kind of private campaigning she may be doing while there. Who she ay be contacting. I still read predictions that he will be reelected.

Much as I hate to admit I think he will also be re-elected. He has the big money backers and the minority voters all supporting him. When I think of all the Hispanic, Blacks and Muslim supporters added together that is a large number.

That makes me think of the picture someone did of her as Marie Antoinette--she is either just as naive and ignorant as that ill-fated queen or she is a brazen elitist. Perhaps she is part of the stupid group of people that think the government's money is magically produced and inexhaustible, not forcefully taken from the people of this nation. Either way she is a disgrace to the country, as is her husband who apparently is trying to bankrupt us.

What was it Marie Antoinette said when told about the poor and hungry in her country who had no bread to eat ...she said "let them eat cake". That to me is exactly what Mrs Obama would say. IMO she is the perfect example of an elitist.

Marie Antoinette was so out of touch with the people that she assumed they had cake just as she did. That's why she said that when told the people had no bread. The Obamas remind me of her attitude and ignorance. Then again, they may know exactly what they are doing and not just be ignorant and out of touch. Either way, they have to go or we are finished.

It's a perfect illustration of the elitist attitude prevalent in most politicians, liberals in particular. They feel that the rules don't apply to them as they are members of the "ruling class" and they deserve privileges not afforded to mere "commoners". When Obama says "shared sacrifice", he's talking about everyone else, not himself or his family. They continue to take lavish trips and live the opulent lifestyle of royalty, which they consider themselves to be, while everyone else struggles to survive in the economic climate that they helped create. You won't see this change either. Obama and his administration has demonstrated their philosophy of spend, spend, spend, so that applies to their own lifestyle as well. Unfortunately, we as taxpayers have to pay for it, not just with our tax dollars but with loss of freedom, increased government intrusion and control of our lives and ultimately with the destruction of our economy and our standard of living. The Obamas and most other of the elite political class will be set for life though. They will be well taken care of. It's the rest of us who have to sacrifice.

You left a couple out. First lady came to Panama City Beach in July 2010. She only stayed a couple of hours, but enough to tie up roads, closing off beach area to tourists that were truly here to vacation. She promised to return with her family to "VACATION". And they did just that. After our season was over for tourists, here they came in September 2010. they stayed at the Marriott Resort (now Wyndam) and with all their security, managed to have the whole bay area of water closed down for 3 days while they enjoyed the good life. I found out as we were at our state park and you could see across to the Resort. We had not paid any attention that they were in town. so was enjoying our state park and this couple come back in with their little boat. I talked to them at the boat dock and the lady looked so forlorn. She said " I hope you do not plan on taking your boat out. The President is here and security boats made us bring our boat back in." the couple was from Georgia. So tourists from another state could not even enjoy the water while he was here. In March of 2011 I was walking by the boat docks where our boats are docked for fishing excursions. I heard the guys talking and I went down and listened. They were talking about hoping to get tourists back since our area did not get the oil spill. I asked them if they knew about Obama's trip here, and bless them they all looked at me and said They were all given official papers to not leave the dock the 3 days the family was here. These men had to cancel fishing trips and could not make the money for their families while 4 people and their entourage was here. Its a crying shame how businesses have to close down and everyone has to conform because they are somewhere in the US and people cannot go about their business to earn a living! I agree with your above statement wholeheartedly. I know WE saw the demise first hand of a First Family's visit on small businesses!

Why else would you want your husband to be president? If Obama gets re-elected, don't be surprised if he is the last US President.

A lot of Americans don't seem to be aware of the predicament their country is in. Mrs Obama's gallivanting is frivolous in the face of the adversity the country is facing but you seem to be the only one who is worried or who cares whiteheather.

These people get to choose how much money they make(speaking of legistlaturers and such in government that is) and it is in the six digits. Ghee, wish I could chose how much medical benefits and SS I get. Wow! If only the tables were turned.

I keep hearing from people how the first family is entitled to vacations because they work so hard. And I might take that seriously if they weren't the same people blasting our former president for simply going to a ranch he owned. I don't really have a problem with Michelle Obama. I don't have anything personal against Barack, either, other than the fact that I think he'd make a great former president. But I will say--and have said many times--that I find them to be completely disconnected from the average American's plight. Sometimes appearances matter more than spinsters would have the rest of us believe. If Obama wasn't constantly out and about preaching about how bad the wealthy are for not doing their fair share, and how we need to invest more, and how we're still struggling, etc, then I might view it differently. But, then again, now that I think about it, it does play into their stance. They're all about spending other people's money! So wtf am I fussing about?

I agree he'd make a great former president but I have a sin king feeling that we will have to wait another four years for that. As long as he calls for minority support and has "acorn" getting phony votes for him we are sunk.
