He grew up in a house where he was unwanted. His parents fought openly in front of him and at age of 4 he went through 2 serious surgeries and their parents didn't even talk to him about it, when he realized doctors and nurses were touching him everywhere and he just then became the person in need of control. At age of 8, allegely he was molested by a neighbour, he neither deny or confirms it but again we might wonder if their parents weren't supposed to notice. At age 18 he was left alone. They divorced and his mother took only HIS YOUNGER BROTHER, just leaving the house like that. If all of this was the reason why he became what he became, we can't tell for sure but it's clearly disturbing of humans having children when they don't plan to love them, to give a place of priority to them once they come to this world. As soon as his parents left him, he commited his first murderer from fantasies he had since 14. He fought his demons for 9 years until he did it again, but the second time he doesn't even remember the killing. He increase in cruelty and actually begin the canibalism. Police had many clear signs to catch this serial killer that murdered 17 victims but they ignored, they even saw one of the victims of 14 years of age, naked, with bruises and blood but they decided to believe in Dahmer as he said the boy was 18 and his lover... A very sad story and maybe the most intersting to psychologists to study, like what's the limit of the human mind cause no one ever done the things he did. Do you think he was sane and responsible for his actions? Or crazy? How about the second killing wich he just passed out and wake up beside a dead lover, do you think he could be possessed by an entity or something? He doesn't remember that at all.

OMG! I live in the same state that Jeffrey Dahmer commited all those murders! Dahmer was not insane! He did try the insanity plea in court when on trial but it didn't work! His lawyer Gerald Boyle knew he was not insane and knew that insanity plea would not work! Dahmer was a very evil person who needed help! He never did get it and nobody realized he needed help either! Of course the police didn't do their job when he was caught with that 14 yr.old! Dahmer was evil and strange. I don't know how he could of done what he did and do it more then once! Dahmer ended up in poison and he didn't last to long! Like two years later he was killed along with another inmate by an inmate who said he heard voices! It was meant to be! I am sure since Dahmer was arrested psychologists have been studying his case! Maybe they have learnt form it! We might never seen another Dahmer and I hope we never do!

I think anyone that does things like that is crazy. They aparently didnt rule him insane in court though so he didnt get off easily if he was really declared insane and didnt understand what he was doing. I just find what he did so horrible. I dont think what happened to him as a child should have so much an effect on him that he would become a cannibal and serial killer. He was murdered in prison. If I remember correctly men killed him by smashing a broom handle through his eye and brain. Hmm maybe not maybe he was executed I cant remember for sure. I've read about so many different serial killers its hard to remember. I know ted bundy was excuted but I think dahmer was killed in prison by another inmate.

Katie: There are many children who don't get their parents attention and love that do not grow up to be psychopaths. His having a bad childhood and parents do not explain, nor do they excuse what he did. I think that he was just evil.

You are right of course, the docummentary seeked to show what was wrong but there are kids that even go through worst and become great human beings. It's just that some people overcome childhood better than others. The only thing I've seen to have been traumatic for him were his two surgeries. I found it strange how parents can put a kid in a surgery room and not tell them they are going to be cut up open.

Hi katie: I think that in most of the serial cases there must be an explanation why people get to this point of real evil and situations like this are the main reason. This should make society aware that we can actually prevent some of these situations. Dysfunctional families create dysfunctional people ALVARO

Hi dear, it has been a long time! You changed the avatar again Yes, family could help things go down but as said above they are not to blame but at the same time: two surgeries and not telling Jeffrey about it at age of 4 or something shows he was really left out, like they didn't pay any attention to him, at the age of 18 his mother just leave and chooses the other son? Strange way to treat a son I think. He grew terrified of people leaving. Cheers!

Whatever he did, to be honest it can't be forgiven. I haven't actually heard about this case, but from what you've told me it sounds fairly sickening. However, it could also be blamed the neglect he faced since an early age. It's sad but horrifying and morbid at the same time.

Yes, no wonder so many psychologist are still fascinated about him, like all of horrible things a serial killer can do, Dahmer did it. It is sad and makes me wonder about this evil being in him that everyone talked about in this discussion.

I think he is crazy. He got crazy because he wasn't able to handle his problems.Base on his experiences he wasnt able to open up to his friends or family regarding his emotions and feelings. He did crimes like its an activity he can play.

Oh yes, Dahmer can really show what could happen if we hold in silence for too long. Like okay he fantasized about laying down a unconscious man but it would've been the salvation of 17 lives if he seeked for a psychologist, unfortunately people with weird, unusual fantasies hide it because they are so ashamed of it. Or maybe he was really sensitive for feeling so much for his parent's fights and his mother just leaving like that, choosing the youngest.
