Notification situation has been worse than I thought!

Everyone knows how the notifications have been on the fritz on and off for a while now. I mentioned to a friend of mine one day here that I was worried that some of my friends here might think I was rude if they had responded to my response and perhaps asked a question pertaining to it..no notifications...no answer back Well..today I ran across something that bothered me even more than that. I got a PM from someone about a response and so I went to my "responded" tab so I could track it down and respond there. I happened upon a Best Response that I hadn't even realized I got! I like to thank the person rewarding and add a little something more to the discussion if I can if they are kind enough to chose my response. WELL...after further investigation, I realized that this was not the only one I had missed and felt terrible about the delayed response back to them. One of them was as belated as 2 months! What would you do if you had been awarded a best response over 2 months ago and just happened across it? Do you usually add something more to the discussion in which you are awarded or leave it be? Are these notification issues stressing you out too?

I am relatively new to mylot but past the newbie stage. I am still learning how to be a mylotter. I have noticed that there seems to be some problem with notifications. I keep my eyes on the discussion that I began to see if I got any additional responses and comments. I can not do that with all the discussions that I have responded to or commented on. Keep in mid that all mylotters are in the same boat so hopefully everyone understands if someone does not respond or comment in timely fashion. I do. I do not get stressed by notification issues. I get some notifications when someone responds or comments some of the time but not all the time. But I have a question. When we get awarded a best response, is it expected that we thank the mylotter who chose us? if so, I did not realize this and will go back and do so. I have never received a thank you from any mylotter who I gave best response to.

I think it is an individual thing as far as saying thanks for a best response. I do it about fifty percent of the time is all. I have also gotten slack about rewarding them. I think it fits with the caution about not thanking people for their responses. If you can say more or add more to the discussion, then it furthers the discussion to say thank you, and add a little more.

Hi bostonphil! GradenGerty is certainly a wonderful friend to have here...congrats. That advice great and it is true that it would be against guidelines to just put "Thank you." I will usually thank them and go on to add more. It is really just a personal preference to do so. Thanks for the response!

Thanks for your feedback, GardenGerty. I have been going back to some of my early mylot discussions. i did not realize how long I have been on mylot. You have been a friend since early on and have given me such good advice and help. I have greatly improved.

Sadly the notifications system is malfunctioning. What can we do? I do hope they fix it. If I come across any response that I have missed I make a comment, even if it just a smile. And if I come across a BR award, I always acknowledge it, no matter how old it is. I hate to ignore anyone!

I do too. I do hope that the members who have responded back or awarded best responses understand. There really isn't a lot we can do but cross our fingers and toes that the problem will be fixed soon. I wish my toes were longer so I could cross them Thanks for responding!

It has happened to me once or twice like that too in the past, so I put myself on e-mail notification from myLot, and if every somebody gives me best response, I get an e-mail to say so. I never thought of thanking the person though, so perhaps on this post I can apologize to all who have given me a best response in the past and I've not answered. When I used to post discussions - something that I haven't done for quite some time now, I selected best response several time, but then thought no more about it and just left the discussions alone. Nobody ever thanked me for them, and it's OK.. I will respond to a discussion if I have something to say. I would hope from my responses that people would know that I am not ignoring them or being rude in any way. Mylot is a great place to be, but I wouldn't allow anything on here to stress me out. As a Zen practitioner I guess I have got to that space of awareness where it is OK to be not OK, and therefore all is OK.. Don't worry Jen.. You are a beautiful person and I am sure that myLot users who you come into contact with you would agree with me. _Derek

Yes, I have loved that "OK to be not OK" philosophy in life since I first heard it in a seminar way back in the 80s. There are so many paradoxes in life, and if we contemplate and refect on them when we find them, we will always move from the negative aspect to the positive. We may come back to the negative again from time to time, but we will be less attached. OK to be not OK! _Derek PS: Oh yes. Would you say that is evolution at work? The mind evolves with nature don't you think?

Oh yes...there is certainly many signs of evolution. There were times a long time ago when it wasn't ok to not be ok. OK greatly depending on time, region, and a ton of other societal rules. People are certainly evolving all over the world as we become closer and more educated about one another.

Oh derek...no need to apologize at all...it is a personal preference I know to thank for the best responses. It can also be considered against the guidelines if there is nothings added to the discussion except the thanks. I love the way it is ok not to be ok so everything is ok....I think that I must be a future zen pupil as that idea seemed so perfect. Thanks so much for your kindness and friendship. It is people like you that gives myLot its essence.

hi JenIntn I have so many tell me the same thing butr I have been getting so many I have to actu ally delete some as its over five hundred at times. no way can I respond to five hundred people every day here. so I guess out here on the we st coast we are getting all the notification while the rest of the country seems to have some glitches.Oh I am so bad about the brs I get as I used to have time always to thank the poster and add something to the discussions I am behind on all fronts and catching up on my own discussions but wish i could be two places at once. lol hope you get it straightened out. but I know noone of us mylot friends are going to blame you for my lot glitches you are having. so do not let it worry you so.you are not responsible for not getting your notifications, relax as we all do understand JenIntn

Thanks Ms.Hatley! It does bother me to think someone has awarded a best response that I missed or asked me something and me not response. I am funny like that I guess. It is also very easy to get behind and I would love to be in a couple of places at once too. @ ravisivan...I actually did go to that option after I ran across that BR to see how many more I missed. I might have to check that from time to time just to make sure I haven't missed one.

Hi JenInTN I never depended on these notifications. I had a not-so-bad experience with them quite early when I joined here. I realized that depending on them will make things more problematic for me. So I modified my home page to do the following - display 15 (I not have 10) posts for the different sections - My Friends Started, My Interests and 5 from My best responses. This way I transfer the responsibility of being served the updates to MyLot. Many a times, my non dependance on Notifications still creates some issues like I dont get to know when I was commented back - but I have made a habit to check back to my last 5 pages of response pages - helps me to re-read many of my participated discussions. For reverting back on the Best Response, I try to do so on many but not all. I know some lotters dont respond back and some also put up the BR in a haste selecting mostly the First one posted. But I used to do this for all sometime during my second year here.

I was referring to the page which shows up once you log into MyLot. I havent done it for my Profile page as that would mean I have to visit my Profile page each time I log in. And yes, it is easier - the + and - buttons help and make increase or decrease of the post count quite simple

I've been a little stressed about it but I'm glad to see that it's not just me. I thought I was on my own on this one. You can use other methods to follow conversations, but if you're involved in a lot it's easy to miss a few and I'd feel awful thinking someone reckons I'm ignoring them!

I would suggest to put your best responses on your wall, there is a setting that you can put some of widget you want so you will not missed anything here. I have so some best response that mylotters given me, I can see it on my wall everytime they marked me as a best response. Of course I'm so happy and proud for so many responders here I'm the one they choose.

Wow! i really got frustrated with the problems we had and I still have them occasionally. I would still reply to the best response. So much of my life is spent on Mylot it does stress me(I'm allergic!) when things don't work right. Sometimes I get so behind that I am hurrying to get through the majority before I let myself retire for the night. When we were having the problems it took me forever.

Heyya celticeagle! So your not having the problems anymore? I am still having them on and off. My last two discussions I had to actually come to the site and go under the started tab to see if I had any responses. I also have been going to the friends started tab to get to my friends' discussions. Some of them would notify and others I haven't seen a peep from. I feel my eyeballs swelling...I might be allergic too.

I never depend on notifications which any way stop after a couple of posts. I always check the 'started' and 'responded' sections and there one gets a fairly good idea of what's going on. No doubt a bit time consuming but worth every second spent. If for some reason I come to know rather late, that I have been accorded a BR tag which is very rare in my case! I promptly acknowledge and thank the one who has taken time to read my response.

My notifications have never worked -- only the best response has, ironically. I've tried different email addresses, checked my junk mail folders, done everything as instructed in the myLot FAQs. So I never know what's happening unless I check in. But no, it hasn't or doesn't stress me out.

Hello JenInTN, I never had any issues with the Mylot notification as i always get lot of Mylot mails reminding me about responses to my discussion or comments to my response.I understand how it effects participation and is difficult to know about someone's comment on our response. For best response i normally check best response tab often apart from email notifications as i dont want to miss anyone of those.I just say thanks to the person who gives me BR.

I haven't noticed any issues or at least one that bothered me so far. I Don't usually thank them for choosing my response as the best but after reading this I think I should, right? Well, 2 months isn't that long, or is it? Anyway, better late than never. I even respond to responses on discussions I made from long ago, but that's seeing there's a new response to it. It only shows that some people even visits old discussions and therefore there's nothing wrong about being late on any response, unless it's probably really urgent.

Heyya choybel! It is a personal preference so you shouldn't feel like it is something that you have to do. It is also against the guidelines to just say thank you. You have to add something to the discussion if it is to remain legit. I like visiting the older discussions sometimes too. We're not supposed to duplicate so if we want to talk about something that has already been started it is a great option to add to the older discussion. Thanks for the input!

I dont' use my email for that anymore, I can't even get into my email. I'm pretty bad with giving best responses, regardless going back and saying thank you for them. I used to be a lot better with the orginzation system on this site, but nope, I just discuss, respond, and comment when I can on what I can.

I thought I was getting less in my notifications, but I thought it was because I turned them off for a lot of people a few days ago. Even so, I was pretty amazed that an hour could go by without notifications, and I didn't think I'd turned them off for all that many people. Then I thought maybe some of those friends I had left set for notifications might not be posting. It seems I'm only getting notifications for about ten friends, and I'm sure there are at least 100 set to still be notified about. HOw long has this problem been going on? I am so far still getting notifications for you, Jen, both when you start discussions and when you respond. AS to the best responses, I don't think I've gotten one in a while, or, if so, I wasn't notified. It's nice when someone stops by to say thank you, but I don't feel they're ungrateful if they don't. It's a busy world, and some people, as you say, may not even realize that they got them.

Oh gosh..it's been going on for quite some time now. That one BR I ran across was 2 months old. It has been an on and off kind of thing though. For about three days..I didn't get a notification one! I am still getting them in spurts but that is about it. I have had to come to friends started and hope that no one asked me a question or something when I responded to them. I don't think anything about someone not coming back to a BR either but I guess I am one that just likes to let the member know that I acknowledged it and appreciate it. I have to be very careful actually about the way I thank them or I think it would be against the guidelines. I can't just say Thanks. I have to add to the discussion with the thanks. Thanks for responding...you better check those BRs..you might have got one.
