I don't know whether it is the same in other countries. But here it seems that most children will learn to play the piano. My son's class has 35 pupils and it seems that about 20 children learn to play the piano. This is very interesting. Perhaps most people want to be the main role

It amazed me to learn that so many of your son's classmates learn to play the piano.I don't know whether their parents are well-off or swim with the tide. Not every child has a gift for playing the piano or music.AS for what kind of musical instrument is good for child,I think it depend on if child likes it and he /she has a genius for it.I now teach my granddaughter play the erhu, but I cann't bet she hang on it.I hope she may take it as a hobby.

Since here most families have one child, so no matter how hard it is, we try to offer the best for our children. But I don't think it is good since some children are spoiled.

From an early ages kids here in the US learn to play drums. In the kitchen on pots and pans and with their toys. Hehe Alot of kids learn to play piano. I was one of those kids. When I was 9-10 I had lessens. I remember nothing.

Unfortunately you can't remember how to play the piano now, otherwise you can teach your children by yourself

piano is a good way for children to learn. my daughters took music in school and one learned the sax and the other learned the clarinet and with that bit of musical training they are both going onto guitar (one has an electric, the other acoustic, both free!)

I think learning to play the guitar is a good choice. At least the investment is not so much

I wouldn`t say the piano, but nowadays kids learn to play the electronic keyboards since it has so many instruments in it.Kids also learn the guitar which i think is another popular instrument as it can be used as an accompaniment while singing. The piano is too big and occupies too much space especially if the house is small. The keyboards is handy and can be placed and played anywhere. However since the sound is synthesized and not authentic it can`t replace the piano especially if one is learning classical.

You are right. But somewhat it seems here that the piano is still the number one choice.

Kids can learn easily than adult especially if they really are interested. My daughter learns to play the piano all by herself because she's really interested. She can also play flute and guitar- without proper training- she learned it by herself. My son did same thing, learn the guitar and drums without proper training. Some kids are born with talent, they just need to explore more of their skills and talent.

Hmm here, they learn how to play the piano a lot too! except that, i think a majority of children also learn how to play the violin and the guitar. Wish I had learnt them when I was a kid too :(

I think learning to play the violin is very difficult.

In my hometown, most girls learn the Veena but things are changing now. Seems like everyone is into vocal not instruments. My son is learning 4 instruments. At the place where we are settled now, piano and violin are the preferred instruments.

Interesting! I hadn't really thought of that. I also play the piano. Not because it was in style here, bur because we happened to have one at home, and I discovered at a very early age, that I have perfect pitch. I am cometely self-taught.

Here in Ireland the instrument that almost every child learns to play is the recorder. Most learn it in primary school from a very young age, others go to music lessons to learn. Piano is quite popular also, but many families these days don't have the money for the lessons, books or equipment.
