Lately there is a news, it said that a person put the down garment into the washing machine and then it led to a bomb. It is not suitable to wash the down garment by the washing machine. So how do you wash it? I will just wash it by hand carefully.

Are you talking about garments with 'down' in them? If so you take them to the dry cleaner. If not I don't know what you mean.

I'd read the label. I would think that washing down in the machine would cause it to bunch up.

I feel stupid right now. I looked at the picture you just posted with this discussion and still couldn't figure out what you mean by down garment. I'll probably read something somewhere about this first.

In fact I attached a photos here but it seems something wrong with Mylot and the photo didn't show. In the cold winter people wear clothes like this. It is light but very big and it can keep you warm.

I saw your photo and I didn't get it, but now that you've explained it, it is clear to me. Well, since we have no winter here and we never owned any of those, then I guess that's something good for us to not have. Although I should say that I really want to experience real snow.

The present day might have showered upon our market with many washing machines of a wide range of brands and designs, but my view about this is that hand washing is the best process of washing that provides direct visual care with our clothes. I put about 15 minutes before my bath very often to wash clothes, which are soaked before by detergent powder and water. I dry them in open air under shade to protect their colour, strength and elastic parts. Hand brush is also used by me with a little detergent to rub away the extra dirty spots. Not only this method saves electricity, but also makes me manually active! My washing machine has gone junk and kept behind me now for junk sale. I must say our hands, brush and manual washing habits are the best washing machine for us that no brand can beat!! Thanks for this nice topic!!

In fact I still wash most of my clothes by the washing machine except for special clothes.

Thanks for the news, youless. I hadn't heard that. I had just recently washed my down comforter in the washing machine. I let it dry natural at room temperature though. My daughter has always washed her down garments in the washing machine. I guess it's like everything else though, it must can happen, so it is good to know. Thank you again.

You are right. Washing clothes by washing machine is not a tiring housework, but folding and hanging up is boring.

I will just dump inside the washing machine but before that I will put it inside the washing net. And set it to gentle wash. In that way, it should be fine and similar to hand wash. The most important is not to load too many clothes into the washing machine together.

I hope it will not damage your down garment anyway.

If you're talking about bedding, it has a cover, and the cover is all that gets washed because it's really all that's exposed. The only other down I have besides pillows which akso have covered is a coat. I take the coat to the drycleaners.

Hi,my friend, my son told me the news too. He warned me not use washing machine to wash down garment. In fact, i have never done that thing before. Because i think it will make the clothes close thier functions of keep warm. Some people send their down garments to the laundry. They think the laundry will dry wash their clothes, but one of my colleagues who has a relative who opening a laundry told me that all the down garments won't be dry washed, they can only be hand washed. Therefore, though it brings a lot of trouble and hard work, i always hand wash down garments.
