When you think you've it bad..somebody's got it worse

I've been having some major money worries this last couple months and it's affected me so much that I found myself plunged into a mild depression. Needless to say while scanning some of the discussions on mylot, I've come to realise that alot of people have it worse of than I do. Reading some of these posts I've gathered that alot of people have lost their jobs, some don't know what else to do,where they're getting their next meal from. I particuarly found interesting a discussion I read this morning as relates to banking institutions and their charges in some countries. In trinidad whilst the banks do implement monthly, some bi monthly, sometimes yearly charges it's definitely not as exorbitant as foreign banking institutions. Dare I say, from my readings this morning, foregin banks are leeches, I was so surprised. We complain so much in Trinidad about our banks, but they are angelic in their actions in comparison to some of the treatment I read being meted out to customers. But aside from the great banking system we've got in Trinidad, I still have my job, and my financial slippage won't last forever, and as we say in Trinidad I "could still eat a food". They truly say, when you think you've got it bad someone else is worse of than you are.

Very well said. I always get depressed when I go shopping, seeing something I want but can't afford to get. Then when I watch the news & I see all the people who are losing their jobs & their homes as well I feel ashamed for having ever felt like that to begin with. Like you mentioned in your post, there is always someone else somewhere who is much worse off then you are. We should be thankful for all that we do have.

I find I am much happier when I stay out of the stores as much as possible. It does help to remind ourselves of how much we do have, though. Welcome to MyLot, I am sure you will be making lots of good friends.

I'm sorry for your struggles. =( I think about this a lot. I know myself I have had it much worse in the past than I have it now. Right now we are "staying" in a motel room because we cannot find a house. We have our 3 children with us. As bad as it seems to me right now we have lived in a tent before with only enough money for a pack of hot dogs. And I know there are people right now in the street. At least we have a bed.

Oh I'm sorry, drats it's when I hear stories like yours I want to help so badly but can't. I do pray that things work out speedily for you and your family. And you're not even grumbling about your situation, which is so admirable. I hope one day very soon you'll be able to come here and tell us that things have gotten wayyyy better and that everything's going great. :)

You cannot choose what happens to you many times, but you can choose your attitude about it. I have enjoyed MyLot for years now, and it does make me put things into perspective and appreciate what I have. I hope you enjoy spending time here on MyLot.

So so so true GardenGerty, and many times I fail when it comes to that..checking my attitude during the trying times and often times my attitude stinks to the high heavens. Thanks so much for that simple reminder. When I saw your post I recollected something that was said to me by a friend of mine, he said something like when we're going through the trials GOD's looking and checking out our attitude during said trials, he also said to me that our attitude is what determines whether we are victorious in our trials or not. But I'll be so honest I'm not thinking any of that in the midst of my troubles, but I need to. Thanks for your words of encourgament and yes I do enjoy mylotting, I've begun to appreciate this community alot. :)

i agree with you. i have been depressed for the past two or three weeks. but then again, i have read and heard so much worse situations than mine. so i think, am i just being exaggerated with my life? i am always a positive person but there times i can't help myself, i am only human after all. it is not that i feel better because others are in more worst situation than me, it is just that feel guilty i acted too weak and i doubt the ability of our Creator. so to get better, i pray hard and trust God with all my heart that this too shall pass.

I admire and greatly respect your sentiments, partly beause I feel the same way for having exaggerated my situation when in reality others have it much more worse than I do. I too doubted GOD's ability to work in my life, and I too had to realise the only way out of this is to pray and trust GOD for the victory, Continue to stay strong shylade, much blessings and yes this too shall pass.(I love that last line) :)

Definitely! Just because you're in a bad situation it does mean you're hopeless. Way back in college, a friend told me about this. There was a time when they conducted a research about the coping mechanism of the people who were a victim of landslide. She told me that if we have a problem, those people do also have the gravest problem of all. They lose their loved ones, They lose their house and they're hopeless on how will they face their lives.

That's quite true, I once heard someone say once there is life, there is hope, so you're very correct just because things are looking bad, oesn't mean it's hopeless. Thank you for that wonderful reminder.

Times are tough everywhere it seems. I know that my wife and I are having a rough go of it but its been worse. I am the only one with a job right now and making ends meet is getting difficult. Now with our gas prices rising, everything else is also going up. This is making it very difficult for the majority of people around here to get the necessary things like medicine. I hope that things are going to start getting better soon!

Nicely said. It's true. Whenever I were depressed or felt like it hit rock bottom, I always remind myself there's someone worst than me out there and they still can make it. It make me realize I should give up easily and keep on moving. It's like the man that I watch in today's documentary said, "We can live in country or city, life is still hard no matter where we go. It's better to face it than run away from it. It's not the end and we're still lucky."
