I've Discovered the Joys!

I've discovered the joys of owning a set of tongs for turning food while cooking and doling out salad onto the plate. How did I ever survive without them all these years? How about you? What's your most valued/favourite utensil in the kitchen folks? And ajk, if you're reading this, don't say 'my wife'

As I love to cook, there are lots of kitchen gadgets that I would miss a lot if I didn´t have them. I have my knives and they all have a function. I could give a small list of the gadgets I don´t care to have though. A friend brought me once an avocado parer. I use the said knives and my hands to to all that. Another one (of was she the same friend who can´t cook?) brought me an utensil that cuts hardboiled eggs in 1/8ths Happy posting and cookimng!!!

Morning, dear marg...I guess we can stand united, and warn TheIrishClog....that we often chime in when cooking is the discussion! I would absolutely hate to lose my "mincer"...I practically live on "tsaziki" and I would hate to have to take the time to mince it by hand. I would, if I had to...but it took me a long time to finally find a good mincer...broke many! My dearly departed MIL loved gadgets and gave them for gifts...including a hard-boiled egg slicer...I'm not sure if I have ever used it...LOL!

Consider me warned! lol A hard-boiled egg-slicer is simply a marvelous piece of kit. One chop and you have several perfectly formed and evenly spaced slice of egg! Whoever invented it must have been Dutch because they were pure genious

Haha, I am only now reading about your egg-cutting gadget after posting above how much I love mine! Oops lol An avocado parer? I don't eat avocados, but can't imagine you'd need one. I once got given an orange peeler thingy that you put on your finger and use to slice around the orange to make it easy to just peel off the strips... Personally not a necessary item....

I tried to buy a pair of tongs for cooking on the stove BUT my kids decided to play with them and broke them before I ever got to use them. Though I have the big ones for the bbq they don't seem pheasable to use in the kitchen in a non-stick pan. I think the utensil I love the most is a kitchen scissors it saves time and replaces the need to use a knife constantly.

Stopped him in his tracks...that "ajk" can be a bit sassy..can't he? I find the two things...I go a little "dingy" over when I can't locate, is either my French whip...or my Garlic Press! Don't cringe...I am one of those that Garlic is the order of the day..(I grow my own)...use itin everything including Chocolate Chip cookies..and a Spice cake! My way of getting it in my son's diet! Use my tong's mostly when BBQing!

My garlic press is also something I use regularly. I prefer fresh garlic to the granules by far. Can't beat the benefits of garlic in the diet. However... Garlic in Chocolate Chip Cookies? Are you crazy? lol Something else I actually used to use quite often when before I was informed of my 'intolerance' to hen eggs was my hard boiled egg slicer. I remember the feeling when I discovered my other half had moved it and couldn't remember where to because some time had passed before I looked for it. I nearly killed him! Yes, I stopped that one, but no doubt he'll find something else smart to say though lol

SURE...you can call me crazy..I'll probably NEVER get to the Emerald Isle to retaliate....I can promise..I can disguise Garlic in just about anything...so everyone will eat it! AND never know! I am sorry for you intolerance to chicken eggs..is it just them? That would really stifle my cooking (baking) etc.! Duck, quail..?? As for "ajk" possible into the libation again..!

Partial to the libation you say eh? lol Just chicken eggs apparently. I was worried when I was told, but they looked into quail eggs and they're fine, which is great as we have quail here at home and regularly eat their eggs - nom!

Oh, I love tongs too! They are awesome. I think my favorite right now is the potato peeler I got a couple of years ago. That thing has cut my potato peeling time in half and I don't waste anywhere near as much as I did when I used a knife.

We've always had a potato peeler in the house. Mum always had one when we were growing up and I simply can't peel potatoes without one. Well, I can, but there's so much waste every time I try it. My other half can't use it. He takes ages to peel them when he uses it...
