A smile goes a long way!

I worked in customer service for over 20 years and I was always smiling. I seem to be happy everytime I would deal with people in the office. They would ask, "why are you always smiling"? My reply because I am happy and God is good to me. I would service high ranking officials and they would just appreciate my service and calm demeanor when a problem I had to deal with. I do believe that everyone should smile when they are dealing with customers. Especially at a fast food restaurant, a bank teller and at stores. I noticed when I do visit those places I deliberately smile and thank them for thier service. Most of the time they return that smile back. One time I had to ask a young lady was she dealing with something? I kindly told her, "her day would go by faster or get better if she would smile. (she took my advice as I left the store) I have always smiled with my husband, my kids and my friends. It just makes it enjoyable to have a smile on your face. My mother use to tell me, " if you keep frowning, that is the way your face will stay for the rest of your life"!! I laughed and chuckled and made a point to never show anyone my upside down smile. I would love to read a story or incident of anyone else experiences with or without a smile. :)

I gave all my phone agents magnetic mirrors that the put next to their computer. On the bottom it says - can your smile be heard? It reminds them to smile when they talk so the client hears someone that is engaged and happy to help them.

I like that, what a great idea. Maybe I should get a mirror and put up to the faces that are frowning and ask,"would you speak to that person"? I wonder what they will do? I better stand back so that I don't get whacked. We all need a little reminder to do something and a smile is needed to keep you and others happy.

You are right that a smile would go a long way. Especially when you are working in a job that you are dealing with every day customers. I think most of the time if you just smile and a customer sees that smile on your face, they could be having a bad day, but once they see your smile on your face, they could have a better day. Every time that I had worked with customers, whether it was over the phone (because yes, if you smile while talking on the phone, then people can hear it in your voice) or when I worked in a store. People have always told me that I always seemed so cheerful and they were always glad to talk to me and see me everytime they came into the store. I even had people tell me that I have made their day just for smiling at them. I have been told that too if I frown all the time my face will stay stuck like that. So now I too always make it a point to smile.

I think happiness always starts with yourself, and then making other people happy also adds to your own happiness, that is what life is all about, what a wonderful world it would be if everyone would smile for others.

Being a customer service representative is a challenging job I've ever had. You have to force yourself to smile, and being that way all the time, it teaches to smile at heart and eventually leads you to a happier environment. I force myself to smile morning to start my day with...

Yes, smile is infectious. Ans so if we all smile always, people who see us can smile back at us too and they will feel better.
