Friends. Do you increase the salaries of your household help or nannies or driver? Do you do this every year? Up to what percent do you increase their pay???

Personally I don't have household help, nannies nor drivers, but I would think it would be upto the person's discretion. Also, it seems like now a days raises are more of a luxury rather than a necessity with today's economy, it is sad but it's true, I can't recall the last time I actually got a raise with my company. But it would be nice if the people can afford to give their people a 3 to 5 percent raise depending on their situation, it shows their personnel that their work is valued and appreciated.

I really enjoy seeing the discussions of others in other countries when it pertains to househelp. Here in the USA we don't really have house help like you may. I am not sure exactly how it works in other countries and what "income brackets" entertain the idea of house help. Here in the USA, the better off hire agencies to whom send out cleaners to do the housework. Nannies can be hired in the same way, but most of the time are close friends or relatives. I couldn't afford a househelper even if I wanted one. Though I suppose to answer your question, if I had one I'd increase their pay per hour up to $14.00 but I'd start them out at $9.00 I guess.

most do not get an increase, ours we do every 2 years, i guess. that was before... we let go of a househelp these days because we moved to a condo and my mom said its okay that we do not hire one especially if we do not know the person. the last one we hired was especially not useful and she was not a good help at all. i caught her watching tv while my mom was cooking and she was not even helping her! haha well i guess there are those good househelps that deserve a raise. we should give them whatever is due to them.

I don't have either. From my knowledge, even the richest people would try to avoid their nominal rights. They are never cared and some people never given a polite smile ever to any of their house maids or chauffers. Unfortunate, but it is true.

I never had a permanent household help since then and maybe will never will. The cost of having a helper does not end on their salary but still with other expenses and other personal problems. But I think it would be proper to have an increase not necessary per year or in monetary form. Maybe a week vacation after completing a year would do good for your helpers or maybe shop new things for them. If you are fortunate enough, a good bonus will be great. And of course to say thank you to them and to appreciate what they do is a great way of treating them.
