"Water retention" making you fat is a misconception which is 2 centuries old. Hot or cold, water is a drink with 0 calories : it cannot make you fat, but it is essential to your health to drink water. If you drink too much water, your body will eliminate it quickly, but dehydration can kill : make your choice.

Water retention is not really a misconception ... it does actually happen. However, just drinking a lot of water will not make a person retain water nor will it make a person fat - that is the misconception. Water retention, on the other hand, especially if it is a recurring or prolonged problem, can be an indication of some potential very serious health conditions, so it is best to consult a doctor if this is happening.

Hi purple, I have not said that water retention is a misconception, but that "water retention making you fat" is a misconception. I suppose that a clarification was necessary. Thank you for it.

Perhaps the clarification did not really need to be made, but it did give me a reason to drop into your box.

Actually, water is good for you. To lose weight safely, you need to consume at least eight glasses or water per day. It will help you lose unwanted fats and it cleanses your body as well

Cold water could make u fat cause it can slower the digest in our stomach while warm water could help the digest better. Maybe u should reduce the cold water intake to lose weight

Actually, drinking ice cold water is supposed to help you lose weight. When your body is dehydrated, it does not function properly. This means that it is not performing at optimum levels, and that can affect many areas of your health not just your metabolism, although your metabolism is definitely affected by it. Drinking water in general will help with this. However, the ice cold water provides another benefit. Your body has to expend energy to bring the ice cold water down to body temperature, so you are actually burning a few extra calories and helping to boost your metabolism in the process.

I don't believe water makes people fat; however, there might be certain unresolved health issues that can cause edema or water retention. That being said, it's incredibly important that we drink enough water to stay hydrated and flush toxins. It's also important to consume enough healthy food to maintain good health. Fat can be a problem if people consume too much of the 'wrong' kind of fat or if they consume foods that are high on the glycemic index. Then they can expect to have elevated levels of LDL (the bad cholesterol) and triglycerides.

Water doesn't make you fat. You can gain pounds because of it but in mirror you will be looking better than before starting drinking water. Don't too much focus on numbers. Just look at mirror or ask people what they think about your body and so on. If you're healthy, you will also look healthy.

Primarily, stuffing yourself with too much carbs and failing to exercise. On the other hand however, a thyroid disorder will also result in weight gain.

I try to drink lots of water each day, as it is very good for you, no calories and can fill you up, sometimes our bodies think they are hungry but really we are needing a drink, have a glass of water, it has no calories and fills you up, espically if you drink a glass before a meal. hot water with a squeeze of lemon juice is nice as well and still no calories.
