Why would you still sell it?

It's been a little while for me since I have been here actively because of the moving and all of that. I am back though. Anyway, yesterday we went to get a couple blankets for our new bed. We were buying them off craigslist. The house was really nice that we pulled up to so we were going to get them. Well, my husband was carrying them out and noticed a big black spot on one of them. As he looked closer he saw the spot moving! It was bugs. We looked up all kinds of bugs and they were bed bugs! Ew!! This is the part that got me angry. Anyone even the cleanest people can get bed bugs so I wasn't mad about it ( grossed out but not mad) we just told her about them and got our money back. She got angry with us because she said someone else was going to buy them the day before but she told them no for us so she missed out on the sale now!! We told her look we do not want our house infested so sorry but its not our fault. She told us she is still going to sell the blankets and all the beds in her house because she wanted the money to move. What?!? You KNOW you have bed bugs and your going to PURPOSELY give that to someone else?!? Why would you do that?? If you had bugs, would you sell your stuff to infest someone else's house?? I would not. I think she is a terrible person for doing that because it is extremely difficult to get rid of them! Would you warn others about her stuff or just let it go if you were me? I feel so bad for future people that might buy her stuff if they don't see them...

Who cares if she was mad, that is totally wrong.. I saw someone mention about reporting her and I would, because someone who is unsuspecting is going to bring those blankets to their home and get infested..I would never do that, if I had a bug problem, I would rather burn what I have rather than sell it to someone..

Loving, you said this was on craigslist, isn't there a rule or something about selling items that are knowingly infested with bed bugs? Perhaps you can also make a complaint there and her listing should be deleted..

I know its wrong. They were nasty people! I was so mad when she said she was still going to sell the stuff!! You gotta be a terrible person to do that and live with yourself! I would burn the stuff too. I could not do that to anyone. I am going to report her, in this town I doubt they will do anything but I will definitely try!

Hi LovingMyBabies, I feel itchy right now!!! No, sorry, that must have been awful. Gosh, I had always thought that bed bugs were barely visible to the naked eye, unless there are different types? I don't blame you for giving them back and expecting a refund however, I would have done the same had I found creepy crawlies too. However, (again!) that is the nature of the beast - buying used bedding/furniture. I don't think that bed bugs are a sign of a lack of hygiene or cleanliness, don't they inhabit most if not all beds and bedding? That's the main reason why I personally hoover the beds and mattresses every few months and turn them over. I also change bed linen regularly and was them at least at 60 degrees Celsius to kill any bed bugs. To answer your questions though.... I wouldn't sell them unless I could clean them first...otherwise they would have to be binned. I wouldn't use them like that and couldn't/wouldn't expect anyone else to. It's called having a conscience. I wouldn't however, have to stand in her way of selling them, not nice as it is what she's doing it's not my problem anymore. IrishGal77 :)

Them being barely visible is actually a myth. Hmm, learn something new every day right? They are reddish brown in color and are about the size of a flea. We definitely learned our lesson about not buying anything else like bedding used. Its not about being clean no. But the only way to get rid of them is to clean with steam. Extreme heat is the only way to get rid of them. Not everyone has them. That was the first time I have ever seen them and I hope I never do again in my life. We were itchy for hours which was probably pschyological but it was nasty! I don't know if shes going to clean them but it would take her entire house being steamed because for them to be as big and as many as she had they are probably all over her house! They don't just live in beds or bedding either they live in all furniture! Ugh so gross.

Oh God you're making me paranoid now!!! I'll be checking under the bedcovers before I go to bed tonight!! You do indeed learn something new everyday, and I had no idea that steaming was the only way to get rid of them. G that woman may have to get someone in to get her house properly fumigated......does not sound like a nice problem to have at all.......

Number one, I would report her to your city hall, or someone who would take charge of that situation. I find it appalling and disgusting that she would even THINK of doing that. It costs tons of money to rid your house of them and what a horrible person she is to do this. You are SOOOOOOO lucky you saw them and didn't bring them home...ugh, I hate to even think of it. They say to watch items like that, especially buying from thrift stores now too. I would NEVER even think of selling something like that, they should be burned and I bet her house is full of them..ew..gives me the willy's.

Yes, she does need to be reported and I hope you do this quickly before she sells more stuff. Can you imagine the people who already bought stuff from her and don't know about it?...OMG, I'm sick. You might report this to city hall to where she lives, they might even be quicker than the health department, maybe. But please report her to both. She is like you said, downright nasty! She needs to be shut down and her house taken care of before these bugs decide to go live next door, and then down further...ugh!

I am going to report her. It is nasty and a terrible thing to do to people who do not deserve it! I never thought about bed bugs, U thought when we got home I would wash them a couple times and we would be good. I am sooo grateful my husband saw that because that would have been AWFUL! I cannot there are such cruel people to do these things. I would never do something like that to anyone either. I would not be able to live with myself. I do have her address too so they can check it out for themselves. These people were so nasty. The first thing we smelled when we brought the stuff back to her was cat pee and poop. When we bought the stuff she brought it out to us, go figure! Hopefully someone will do something about this nasty person!!

I started to reply to this and then get distracted. I would definitely be reporting her giving her a bad review if you can. I don't know how you do that on Craiglist but while I do understand she needs the money or the stuff gone, she should have told people that their was bugs in it, OR at the very least tried her darndest to get them out. I'm not going to sell something like that without cleaning it first, and if I was told their were bugs in it, I'd re-inspect it and if so I would give them the money back, or sell it to them for less if they still wanted it.

OMG Personally I would have never even thought of selling them. They all would have been burned in the back yard the minute I saw the damned bugs. Some people are just such A$$Holes! I mean those thing can give people really bad bites, allergies infect people with diseases! What a horrible thing to do.

AT least you went to pick it up and didn't get it through the mail. Imagine if she sold them on Ebay and shipped them out to a person. They would have opened the package up to infest their whole home!

I agree. Its so wrong on many levels. We have young children too and our youngest is highly allergic to most things. Thank God my husband saw them before we left there. For her to still sell them when she knows her stuff is infested is horrible to me! I think she knew all along and thats why she was selling it so cheap.

Well in a situation such as this I would most definately warn others as to the problem. What if someone buys this stuff and has small children or even infants. I would not want my house infested at all. In the state were I live it is illegal to sell Mattresses and box springs. they can give them away but they cannot sell them. Definately warn others.

I will report her and warn others. It made me mad that shes still going to sell the stuff! My youngest daughter is highly allergic to most things so she probably would have ended up in the hospital if we had those bugs! She knew we have small kids and did not seem to care. She was still mad atus but too bad! You have to be a horrible person to do that to others!! I wish it was illegal here to sell them. There wouldn't be as many issues!

Oh my word. That's horrible. Those things are so hard to get rid of and are growing in numbers. I've never had them, but friends of my parents did once. My dad got so paranoid even after they got rid of the bugs. For months after they were all gone he'd come home from visiting them and immediately wash all his clothes in hot water, then put them on the hottest the dryer went.

It was an awful thing of her to do. Especially knowing we have young kids, one of which already has major allergy issues!! If you do not know thats bad enough but we told and showed her them and she said she will sell them anyway. We were paranoid too, we scrubbed and put everything in the wash too. We were itching for a while, it was getting to our brains bad. Lol.

ohyes I would lovingmybabies as who wants to get bedbugs on purposely sold blankets and other furniture probably also harboring bed bugs.that woman has to be bonkers to do something so gross and mean.'She should do whatever she has to do to rid the apt or house where she is and all the furnishings in the house of bedbugs. As I understand it the things are tiny and hard to see.She must not sell that stuff. I wonder if there's a dept of health and welfare in her city that should be told of what this woman is doing.surely this must be either illegal or against health laws.

Yup if their in your bed they are other places too. I thought they only went in fabrics and such but thats not the case. They live in wood, electronics and metal too! I was shocked when I found that out. She was crazy and nasty. I just could not sell things knowing that the people will suffer in that way. So gross and horrible. I think I will call the Health Dept because I really do not want anyone to get that stuff! Its just not right. Bed bugs are actually about the size of a flea and reddish brown in color. We definitely saw them and I read that not seeing them is actually a myth. You can see them, they are just quick movers and jumpers.

Yes bed bugs are extrememly hard to get rid of. I stayed in a place one time down south and found they had bed bugs. Actually as soon as we turned on the lights. We ended up staying in the car that night. This woman you got the blankets from sounds like a real peice of work and much like how people are to day. Care only for themselves.

Yeah its common in motels to have them. I would have stayed in the car too. Yeah just knowing we have young kids its just terrible to me. I am so glad my husband saw them before we brought them home. Your right though she only cared about herself and getting our money. And now shes going to try to get someone else...

If I was the one that found bugs on blankets that someone was selling on Craigslist, I would definitely post a warning to other potential customers. Now as far as the woman that is selling the blankets goes, if I knew that my house was infested, I would definitely not try to pass my problem onto another household. Instead, I would either burn the blankets or send them to the dump. She is definitely in the wrong trying to sell them when she knows that there is a problem.

If it were me, I would be embarassed for getting bed bugs in the first place. And I wouldn't dare sell it. I think this lady was blinded by the money that her stuff could fetch, and not thinking clearly. I hope you found cleaner ones already!

I know! I would feel way too ashamed to sell my stuff if it was infested with anything. Thats right she cared only about the money thats it. She knew we had kids and everything and shejust plain did not care! It was a lesson learned and we went to the store...Not taking anymore chances!

That is so sad! I would call the city on her myself. But I went through this with my aging parents twice. and that was twice to many times in my lifetime. It was not bedbugs but roaches. I actually had to turn them in. Being an only child did not give me enough leverage to get them to deal with the problems so I had to get city involved so they would take care of the problem. Its a shame that people will do this to innocent people especially if she knew you had children! We just gave a king size mattress and box spring away. I made sure I lysoled it down before the couple came to get it. they were thrilled to have a bed to sleep on. Evidently they were sleeping on the floor.

I don't blame you for being paranoid. You always have to remember, not everyone is a nice person in this world. My girl friend is like you that way, she always gives the other person the benefit of the doubt. And she thinks that others are nice people. She found out this weekend with my evil ex. She was always telling me that I should not feel like I do about my evil ex, and I told her she does not know what she is talking about, well, this weekend, she found out the hard way how the evil ex really is. But, don't feel bad, you learned a lesson and go from there.

I would never do it either. Shes a horrible and nasty person. I honestly never thought about bed bugs. I thought I would just wash the stuff and we would be good. I always think everyones honest and clean like me but it was definitely a lesson learned. Oh yes we scrubbed ourselves and washed our clothes first thing! I never touched anything but I was paranoid, lol.

That is so nasty. I would definitely not sell anything that I am sure other people would be grossed out with. Plus it's bed bugs, and it seems that the lady in your story wasn't too alarmed by it because as you mentioned she will still sell it. Personally, I would torch the whole set even if it cost me money. Bed bugs are really nasty and is quite hard to remove once you have an infestation. I am happy that it has been years since I last encountered a bed bug. My first and last encounter was with the wooden beds that we used when I was seven. Some cousins (boys) were using it before me and it was already infested with bed bugs when I got it. My mother tried numerous ways to remove those nasty bed bug with turpentine and gas but they kept coming back. We even washed the whole bed with soap and water and set it out the sun to dry and the hot sun here in my country is no joke because I live in a tropical country. But the bed bugs stayed. So what we did was just dismantle the whole thing and use the wood for cooking (barbeque). I guess other people don't mind if the stuff they are selling aren't of good quality as long as they earn money from it.

I do not think most people woild do anything like that. Anyone with a conscious anyway. That must have been awful for you. This was my first time seeing a bed bug. But my hisband had an experience with them as a child so he checked everything and thats how he found them. Thank goodness hes paranoid about those things! I think its awful her still trying to sell them. But all she wants is money.

Some people have no shame whatsoever about what they are selling out there. There are people who sell things that might seem rather decent at the first case. And then when you look at it, there are all kinds of problems. That is why I don't like to buy second hand things sight unseen, because you never know what you are dealing with. When I've looked at things in garage sales, I've noticed things with horrible stains and odors that I don't want to even know. I guess some people really do have no form of pride. And to sell things to people to bring an infestation right to a house, that is just low but really that is just going to be kind of unsurprising to me. Some people just feel the need to unload everything, to make a quick buck and it really does undermine their credibility of what they are sell. I've seen people who really should know better sell some things that are of questionable quality.
• Valdosta, Georgia

Yeah she had no shame in selling that nasty crap! All she wants is money. I would never sell anything like that so sometimes I forget not all people are like me. Some people are not honest and they want money and they really do not care if they rip you off.

It's good that your husband noticed those bugs before they invade your house! That woman has sick thinking, she wants to sell blankets with bugs and then she gets angry?
