Are We Ashamed To Use Red In Our Olympic Kit Now?

I'm STILL looking forward to the Olympics, to be held in London this year of course BUT I can't help thinking that our kit is a mistake. Judge for yourself. Where's the red in it? Besides the English (no Cross of St George) being upset the Welsh aren't too happy either. May as well call it the Scottish Kit and be done with it. I reckon there should've been a competition all over the UK for the under 10s. I'm sure one of them could've come up with something better than this as they would've incorporated ALL the colours of the Union Flag without thinking about who they're gonna upset! Do you know what your national team's kit looks like yet? Jamaica usually comes up with a good one! It's a fact that if you play in red you win so to have red trim is an insult and makes both England and Wales invisible. I hate this politically correct country, I really do. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_Flag As for Stella McCartney (who took 2 YEARS to design the kit) she should be ashamed of herself. I think Victoria Beckham could've done better, I really do!

I think that a two year old could have done better. The red is barely identifiable and certainly not in the flag. Can you imagine an American designer getting away with this load of tat based on their flag? No doubt Stella will take a sizeable fee for what looks like a badly washed sports kit. I despair of this country. But then left to me the Olympics wouldn't be here at all.

It's so nondescript it's untrue. You're right a 2 year old COULD do better. Also, if they had to use a designer, why not an upcoming one rather than someone who obviously doesn't give a t*ss about her country anyway? When the athletes start running there's no way we'll be able to see them unless a little arrow is pointing downwards on the screen! I'm going to do some research to see what other teams have been doing, the US included.

I never thought about the UK kit one way or the other until you just mentioned it! I'd see photos of it of course, but the colours really hadn't registered. I suppose that is an indication of how forgettable it is!

We're gonna have trouble spotting our guys on the athletics track in such an "invisible" kit. Why can't we be dynamic for once? God, we're so BORING!

I see what you mean... heavy on the "Ewww!" factor. The Canadian uniform isn't much better, though. http://www.ctv.ca/CTVNews/TopStories/20111102/olympic-clothes-111102/

Put it this way, if there wasn't any red in it you wouldn't be happy, right? I reckon you're gonna win LOTS of medals in such a dynamic colour!

The pipings are red! Not very visible though! It's sometimes funny when they have designers come up with this. It takes time and money when you're exactly right, a 10 year old could have come up with something better. It's the same here as well.

It's so frustrating because they've had many, many months to come up with a design.

I understand what you're saying here. They should have had the flag with it's proper colors on it. You're right, where is the red. Thats like America having an outfit with just white and blue. America is known for it's red white and blue. So, why didn't they use it in Great Britain. Who knows the rhyme or reason behind it.

Has the US kit come out yet? I'm dying to compare the two. Put it this way, if there's no red in the US kit Americans won't be happy, just like I'm unhappy about the lack of red in our kit.

They used to do that years ago. Had the flags both on the front AND the back on white background, if memory serves.

I don't know, I have not seen it. But you never know. America might have all three colors. They should just have the flag of the country on the front. That way it is easy and everyone knows what country they come from.

There's far too much money wasted on designer this and that, especially for the olympics. In my day it had to be either bibs or skin and like it.

Oooo nice! I know what you mean though. It's like this Stella McCartney woman was trying TOO hard and has ended up satisfying nobody. Just like her talentless Dad..not a patch on John Lennon and George Harrison..er, in my opinion!

I think Stella has done OK. I have checked the pictures out and scrutinising the kit worn by Jessica Ennis, and yes, there isn't much red in it. Actually there isn't much material in it at all, but Jessica looks just great to my untrained eye! I think we should get right behind them! C'mon Jessica and Team GB

I had heard about the kit but this is the first time I have actually seen it. My mum described it to me but I feel she underestimated its fullness. Perhaps if the kit actually looked nice then mccartney could.be forgiven but I agree that a 2 year old could do better with a handful of crayons and blindfolded. I don't care.for the Olympics but I still think that all of the.parts.of.the UK should be represented on the kit (especially England cos we're the best :-P)

This is why I like the new England football kit as it has red on it instead of blue (the home version) and about time too!
