dreams and consequences

I don’t really go for beauty contests but I respect those who do and especially those who actually join beauty contests. I know someone who joined a recent beauty contest in our city and won third runner up. She came to visit me yesterday and I found out that she resigned from her work which paid well in order to join the contest…part of the contract she signed, she said. And I was amazed that in exchange for this well-paying job, she got a monthly allowance of only one third of what she received from her job. She gets to travel abroad, too, together with the other four who won. She is not actually well off and I thought of what she gave up for fame and beauty. Of course with her one year work experience and winning a beauty contest could be plus factors when her contract ends in one year and she looks for a job. It may not be difficult for her. And it got me wondering how much people would give up in exchange for a dream, regardless of consequences. Life is a gamble, I suppose. What do you think, mylotters?

We all have different priorities. As you have mentioned her family is well off so they can support her if ever she will not be successful. And maybe she also had a spare savings in the bank.It will be her least problem compare to others where in money is the first priority. And I do believe that there is something in our dreams that needs to be fulfilled to say to yourself that you have live your life. Take chances if you have to but at least you will not regret it for the rest of your life wondering what if?. True life is a gamble but it should be a calculated risk. We just do not jump in the sea full of sharks. So I am sure she weigh things already. I am glad she is not giving up on her dream. But it is true a good family background , a beautiful face plus the brains can surely get you to where you want to go. Greater opportunities for them:D

Hi dazzledlady... Our dreams can be magnets that pushes us through and moves us to great lengths, I agree. And sometimes, taking chances is what makes it more interesting. I also agree that taking chances should be a calculated risk. I suppose, it was for her, the way she figured it out. Her family is not well off and that is why I wondered. Her scholarship is what put her through her college. Her mother, the only living parent, has no fixed and stable job but I also know that her mother is very supportive. So I guess, they have thought this out and saw a future in this. As you said, beauty and brains can get her where she wants to go. Thanks for your response, dazzledlady and have a nice day ahead.

Well, life is always a matter of choice. If I am pretty enough, I'll also join beauty contests. The satisfaction we can get from winning in the contest is incomparable. I don't know, but since I was a kid, I have been dreaming of being the most beautiful girl in the world. It's true that she's receiving a very meager amount of money compare to what she received when she was still working, but it makes her happier. It really depends on what we like, what we aim for.

Hi wittynet... I suppose you are right. Whatever makes one happy, the consequence can come later and will be dealt with when it comes. And it is an experience that does not happen often and to everyone. So it is perhaps worth it. Right now, she is basking in the experience. And as I said, I know she will find it easy to land a job after her contract. Thanks for your response, wittynet.

Good for her then. She made a choice and i hope that she'll not regret it. And i hope that that, She also joined beauty contest for a good cause or something. If it's that her dream i think that she's willing to sacrifice anything. Yes you are right, life is a gamble. Win or lose it's still our choice.

Well friend, for me, as long as it is your dream to be in that field, it is okay. Your happiness counts too, right? And it's not that bad as long as you still earn even if it's not as big as your monthly salary. Besides earning even just a little money, you fulfill your wants and dreams and you get to travel around the world too. So what's so bad about that? And yeah, I agree. Life is indeed a gamble. :)

personaly i think that beauty is not some thing you build your life on, because it's not some thing productive and doesn't help you nor your society in the long term please when you chose something think of your futur (what do i know this is just my opinion)
